Structural Connections for Precast Concrete Buildings by fib Fédération internationale du béton Pdf
Connections are among the most essential parts in precast structures. Their performance relates to the structural limit states, as well as to manufacture of the precast elements and erection and maintenance of the structure itself. Proper design of connections is one major key to a successful prefabrication. The principal aim of fib Bulletin 43 is to encourage good practice in the design of structural connections in precast concrete structures. This is achieved through a good understanding of structural connections as parts of the overall structural system and of basic force transferring mechanisms. The bulletin consists of two parts; the first part concerns general considerations and philosophy in the design of structural connections, and the second part deals with basic force transferring mechanisms within structural connections. The main focus is on the design of structural connections with regard to their structural function in ordinary design situations in the serviceability and ultimate limit states, and in accidental/abnormal design situations, like fire, lack of fit and impact/accidental loads. Other aspects considered include production, handling and site erection of elements, building physics, durability and maintenance. Bulletin 43 applies to structural connections for precast concrete buildings, although the information on basic force transfer mechanisms can also be applicable to other types of prefabricated structures.

Ultimate limit state design models a state of art report by FIB – International Federation for Structural Concrete Pdf
The first part of the report is devoted to linear elements (beams, columns) and includes chapters on shear and flexure in beams, ultimate limit state design of prestressed beams, and of reinforced concrete members under combination of bending with axial load and shear, of beams subjected to torsion, and a chapter on shear design based on truss models with crack friction. The second part treats two-dimensional elements and includes background information on ULS design of wall, shell, and slab elements. lt concludes with a chapter on axisymmetric punching of slabs.

Second Century of the Skyscraper by Council on Tall Buildings & Urban Pdf
tenant is looming in importance. The owner is having more influence on the building. As Gerald D. Hines has said, there are indications that the desire for more discretionary time will lead to more residential high-rises dose to or in the midst of downtown office buildings. Downtown living could become the desired alternative. Tall buildings will be approached increasingly from the standpoint of an urban ecology - that what happens to apart can influence the whole. Provid ing for public as well as private needs in a tall building project is just one example (facilities for schools, shops, religious, and other needs). More attention will be paid to maintaining streets as lively and interesting places. Will a new "world's tallest" be built? Will we go a mile high? The answer is probably "yes" to the first, "no" to the second. With the recent spate of super-tall buildings on the drawing boards, going to greater heights was in the back of many people's minds at the Chicago conference. But in the U nited States, at least, buildings of 70 to 80 stories would appear to provide needed space consistent with economy. The future, then, is described in depth by papers that go into specific areas.
