Economic Synthesis of Heterocycles by Xiao-Feng Wu,Matthias Beller Pdf

Heterocycle synthesis is one of the largest areas of modern organic chemistry. Heterocycles have a broad range of applications including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and dyes, and are the core structure to around 90% of naturally-occurring molecules. Transition metal catalysts have become favoured in heterocycle synthesis, not least because of their low cost, but also due to their relatively low environmental toxicity and biocompatibility. This book presents an overview of the state-of-the-art in transition metal catalysis for heterocycle synthesis. Each metal is discussed in turn, presenting a comprehensive source of information on the use of zinc, iron, copper, cobalt, manganese, and nickel in a sustainable and economic manner. Referencing the latest primary literature, and authored by active researchers in the field, this book is a must-have resource for anyone wishing to undertake an economic and sustainable approach to heterocycle synthesis.

Palladium in Heterocyclic Chemistry by Jie Jack Li,Gordon W. Gribble Pdf

Palladium chemistry, despite its immaturity, has rapidly become an indispensable tool for synthetic organic chemists. Heterocycles are of paramount importance in the pharmaceutical industry and palladium chemistry is one of the most novel and efficient ways of making heterocycles. Today, palladium-catalyzed coupling is the method of choice for the synthesis of a wide range of biaryls and heterobiaryls. The number of applications of palladium chemistry to the syntheses of heterocycles has grown exponentially. These developments highlight the need for a monograph dedicated solely to the palladium chemistry in heterocycles and this book provides a comprehensive explanation of the subject. The principal aim of the book is to highlight important palladium-mediated reactions of heterocycles with emphasis on the unique characteristics of individual heterocycles. 1. Palladium chemistry of heterocycles has its “idiosyncrasies stemming from their different structural properties from the corresponding carbocyclic aryl compounds. Even activated chloroheterocycles are sufficiently reactive to undergo Pd-catalyzed reactions. As a consequence of &agr and &bgr activation of heteroaryl halides, Pd-catalyzed chemistry may take place regioselectively at the activated positions, a phenomenon rarely seen in carbocyclic aryl halides. In addition, another salient peculiarity in palladium chemistry of heterocycles is the so-called "heteroaryl Heck reaction". For instance, while intermolecular palladium-catalyzed arylations of carbocyclic arenes are rare, palladium-catalyzed arylations of azoles and many other heterocycles readily take place. Therefore, the principal aim of this book is to highlight important palladium-mediated reactions of heterocycles with emphasis on the unique characteristics of individual heterocycles. 2. A myriad of heterocycles are biologically active and therefore of paramount importance to medicinal and agricultural chemists. Many heterocycle-containing natural products (they are highlighted in boxes throughout the text) have elicited great interest from both academic and industrial research groups. Recognizing the similarities between the palladium chemistry of arenes and heteroarenes, a critical survey of the accomplishments in heterocyclic chemistry will keep readers abreast of such a fast-growing field. We also hope this book will spur more interest and inspire ideas in such an extremely useful area. This book comprises a compilation of important preparations of heteroaryl halides, boranes and stannanes for each heterocycle. The large body of data regarding palladium-mediated polymerization of heterocycles in material chemistry is not focused here; neither is coordination chemistry involving palladium and heterocycles. Many heterocycle-containing natural products (highlighted throughout the text) have elicited great interest from both academic and industrial research groups. Recognizing the similarities between the palladium chemistry of arenes and heteroarenes, a critical survey of the accomplishments in heterocyclic chemistry keeps readers abreast of this fast-growing field. It is also hoped that this book will stimulate more interest and inspire new ideas in this exciting area. Contains the most up-to-date developments in this fast-moving field Includes 3 new chapters Incorporates material from selected well-respected authors on heterocyclic chemistry

Modern Approaches to the Synthesis of O- and N-heterocycles by Teodoro S. Kaufman Pdf

The O- and N- heterocycles are widely found in natural products as well as in pharmaceuticals and other fine chemicals, and many heterocycles have additional interest from their structural, mechanistic or biological points of view. Driven by this ubiquitous occurrence of the O- and N- heterocycles, their economic importance and academic significance, the already rich and imaginative chemistry of these compounds is still growing at a steady pace. In this three-volume publication, more than thirty groups of expert chemists from different latitudes covering four continents and twenty countries and nationalities, including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, and United States, provide exhaustive, well documented and up-to-date reviews on their fields of research. These contributions cover different aspects of the modern chemistry of O- and N- heterocycles, reflecting its state of the art in various specific areas of research; in addition, personal accounts are also provided by many scientists, reporting the most relevant contributions in specific areas and recent advances of their own research. Many of the most important heterocycles are included in the publication. The exhaustively referenced reviews have been arranged trying to follow a set of arbitrary criteria, which included the heteroatom(s) involved, the size of the rings, the number of rings and the structural complexity of the products; the use of specific starting materials, reagents or techniques and the access to specific products has also guided the classification process. Analogous criteria have been employed in order to arrange the chapters within each volume. In general, chapters have been systematically arranged in order of increasing ring size and structural complexity of the different target molecules, from the small sized aziridines up to macroheterocycles and heterocyclic-based dendrimers. Additional space was reserved for new methodologies for the synthesis of O- and N-heterocycles, such as solid-supported and microwave-assisted organic synthesis and flash vacuum pyrolysis and the use of specific transformations in the synthesis of O- and N-heterocycles, such as ring closing metathesis, 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions and the Paulson-Khand reaction. The Editors gratefully acknowledge the extra time, effort and kind cooperation of all of the contributing authors and their co-workers, which have greatly helped putting forward this publication, and hope this book will constitute not only a convenient means for updating specific areas of the synthetic chemistry of O- and N-heterocycles, but also an important reference for ongoing research and a useful starting point for new and original projects and chemical developments.
