Environmental Careers by David J. Warner Pdf

Environmental Careers presents a broad-based, yet concise survey of employment opportunities in the environmental field. The book stresses the need for students to develop a strong technical background in the sciences to be effective in understanding and solving complex environmental problems. It also emphasizes the importance of developing relevant work experience through internships or volunteer work to help find entry-level employment in the environmental field. Environmental Careers includes opportunities in natural resources management, environmental protection, environmental health and safety, environmental education, allied environmental careers, and non-degree technical careers. Important issues for students, guidance counselors, and mid-career changers, such as salaries, characteristics of employers, and the latest trends in demands for environmental professionals, are addressed. The book also presents the 10 best career prospects for the 1990s and offers guidance on developing and implementing a personal action plan for pursuing an environmental career.

Work, Jobs, and Occupations by National Research Council,Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education,Commission on Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education,Committee on Occupational Classification and Analysis Pdf

Various editions of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles have served as the Employment Service's basic tool for matching workers and jobs. The Dictionary of Occupational Titles has also played an important role in establishing skill and training requirements and developing Employment Service testing batteries for specific occupations. However, the role of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles has been called into question as a result of planned changes in the operation of the Employment Service. A plan to automate the operations of Employment Service offices using a descriptive system of occupational keywords rather than occupational titles has led to a claim that a dictionary of occupational titles and the occupational research program that produces it are outmoded. Since the automated keyword system does not rely explicitly on defined occupational titles, it is claimed that the new system would reduce costs by eliminating the need for a research program to supply the occupational definitions. In light of these considerations, the present volume evaluates the future need for the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.
