Foundations of Islāmic Psychology by G. Hussein Rassool,Mugheera M. Luqman Pdf

Foundations of Islāmic Psychology: From Classical Scholars to Contemporary Thinkers examines the history of Islāmic psychology from the Islāmic Golden age through the early 21st century, giving a thorough look into Islāmic psychology’s origins, Islāmic philosophy and theology, and key developments in Islāmic psychology. In tracing psychology from its origins in early civilisations, ancient philosophy, and religions to the modern discipline of psychology, this book integrates overarching psychological principles and ideas that have shaped the global history of Islāmic psychology. It examines the legacy of psychology from an Islāmic perspective, looking at the contributions of early Islāmic classical scholars and contemporary psychologists, and to introduce how the history of Islāmic philosophy and sciences has contributed to the development of classical and modern Islāmic psychology from its founding to the present. With each chapter covering a key thinker or moment, and also covering the globalisation of psychology, the Islāmisation of knowledge, and the decolonisation of psychology, the work critically evaluates the effects of the globalisation of psychology and its lasting impact on indigenous culture. This book aims to engage and inspire students taking undergraduate and graduate courses on Islāmic psychology, to recognise the power of history in the academic studies of Islāmic psychology, to connect history to the present and the future, and to think critically. It is also ideal reading for researchers and those undertaking continuing professional development in Islāmic psychology, psychotherapy, and counselling.

Applying Islamic Principles to Clinical Mental Health Care by Hooman Keshavarzi,Fahad Khan,Bilal Ali,Rania Awaad Pdf

This text outlines for the first time a structured articulation of an emerging Islamic orientation to psychotherapy, a framework presented and known as Traditional Islamically Integrated Psychotherapy (TIIP). TIIP is an integrative model of mental health care that is grounded in the core principles of Islam while drawing upon empirical truths in psychology. The book introduces the basic foundations of TIIP, then delves into the writings of early Islamic scholars to provide a richer understanding of the Islamic intellectual heritage as it pertains to human psychology and mental health. Beyond theory, the book provides readers with practical interventional skills illustrated with case studies as well as techniques drawn inherently from the Islamic tradition. A methodology of case formulation is provided that allows for effective treatment planning and translation into therapeutic application. Throughout its chapters, the book situates TIIP within an Islamic epistemological and ontological framework, providing a discussion of the nature and composition of the human psyche, its drives, health, pathology, mechanisms of psychological change, and principles of healing. Mental health practitioners who treat Muslim patients, Muslim clinicians, students of the behavioral sciences and related disciplines, and anyone with an interest in spiritually oriented psychotherapies will greatly benefit from this illustrative and practical text.

ILM AN-NAFS -Science of the Soul by G Hussein Rassool Pdf

Implicit in the title of the book is an exploration of the themes of the Science of the Soul, better known as Islamic Psychology. Human nature and the process of behaviour and emotions are inherent holistic processes that integrate the physical. psychological, social and spiritual dimensions. Accordingly, the Islamic nature of the human being is whole, comprehensive and complete according to the Qur'ān and Sunnah. In essence, "Islam provides a balanced focus between universal principles of human behaviours (with its universal laws and Shar'iah or divine laws) and individual differences. The universal laws may include biological, social, psychological and economic dimensions based on empirical research. The Qur'ān and Hadith provide guidance and basis to the laws of human nature. These laws can be used as the foundation to develop theories about human nature based upon the writings of Muslim scholars and contemporary research findings."[1] The concept of this book, reflected in the context and scope, attempts to address some themes in Islamic psychology and focuses the evolution of Islamic Psychology, the development of the science of the soul from classical Islamic scholars to contemporary thinkers. It examines the concepts of the Fitrah, nature and nurture, the Nafs (Soul), the Aql (Intellect), the Qalb (Heart) and Ibn al-Qayyim's types of hearts. Other themes include models and approaches in Islamic psychology, spiritual motivation, spiritual capital, ethical intelligence, Tawbah and the process of change, learning theories and spiritual modelling: an Islamic perspective, altruistic or helping behaviour, obsessive-compulsive disorder and scrupulosity: spiritual or pathological?, de-colonising psychotherapy and counselling, and religious coping in an Islamic context. Islamic Psychology - Integrative Dialogue by Emi Zulaifah,Wanady Ayu Krihsna Dewi,Marcus Stück,Dian Utamy Pdf

The present book represents an interesting dialogue between two worlds - the world of psychology in the Islamic context, also called Islamic psychology, and the findings of the Western psychology - of which integration is important. In this first volume of the book series the contributions of the Islamic Psychology and biopsychological basics in Education and life are drawn from the presentations of scholars and practitioners who gathered in 2018 for an International BIONET Conference at the Islamic University of Indonesia in Yogyakarta, along with participants from many Countries of the so called western and Islamic world. There they led a dialogue in psychology, spirituality, biocentric-oriented, which means life-oriented, science and art. During this conference these fields were scientifically discussed and practically experienced in an interdisciplinary and integrative way. This is the basic idea of Biocentric Science and BIONET - a meeting of people who can experience spiritual approaches, art and make and exchange knowlegde about their scientific studies about it.

Psychological Foundation of the Qur'an Ii by Muhammad Shoaib Shahid Pdf

My goal is to introduce logical and scientific results and analysis of the observation of the deteriorated state of the Muslim Ummah, which has been dependant over semi-educated, non-Arabic speaking Imams/Mullahs presenting Islam with personal agendas and misinterpretation of the Qur'an due to a foreign language or lack of insight to find solutions to all human issues presented by the Creator for His beloved creature. My sole reference in all the presentation is only the Qur'an to unite the Muslims who have split into various sectarian, political and social divisions through issues like terrorism, Bidaha, misconceptions over human and women's rights, and power struggles, under one umbrella of the Ummah based on One God, one Last Prophet (Muhammad PBUH) with one Holy Book (the Qur'an) for guidance in individual affairs and social justification. Outdated preaching practices (with projection of fear of punishment), mishandling of adolescent anxieties and concerns, intolerant attitudes, and indulging in rituals instead of religious obligations have confused the laypersons and those ignorant of Islam about the original Islmaic intention presented in the Qur'an. I have presented the data for all English-speaking populations settled globally, with logic and observation on scientific tools, at the layperson's mental level to answer the misunderstandings or objection about Islam and the Qur'an. This present publication is a solution to meet this noble mission of Allah for preaching His message to the derailed population, particularly among the Muslims.

Advancing Islāmic Psychology Education by G. Hussein Rassool Pdf

This book provides academic and clinical institutions for developing their educational programmes in psychology, psychotherapy, and counselling from an Islāmic paradigm. Examining the educational approach in the decolonisation of psychology curricula, the book proposes a vertically and horizontally integrated, embedded curriculum model. This model meets the changing needs of practitioners, incorporating indigenous cultural aspects and emerging technologies to reflect new and creative ways of thinking about delivering education in the post Covid-19 era. The chapters also demonstrate how curriculum development, based on the principles of Islamic education, helps institutions to establish purpose, define activities, and guide decision making in educational development. A series of steps for implementing this need-driven educational programme has been suggested. This practical, concise, and evidenced-based text will be a key resource for educators and trainers. It will help them understand how to re-design or suggest changes to curriculum structure, shape, and content in Islāmic psychology, psychotherapy, and counselling for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development levels of education.

Principles of Islamic Psychology by Farid Younos Pdf

Psychology is the study of mind, and this is exactly why the Quran put a great emphasis between the relationship of man and his Creator and the role faith plays intellectually and spiritually in our lives. The Quran is a book of wisdom, and it includes all aspects of human life. Religion, as a matter of fact, is an intellectual property that cannot be seen. So the mind cannot be seen. Human beings are curious creatures. This curiosity elaborated in the story of Abraham when he wanted to find the truth for himself. Finding the truth is a principle of science and research. Islamic psychology is based on three principles, namely theo-ethics, socio-ethics, and psyco-ethics, which discusses human relations from a psychological point of view. It is the mind that relates to all aspects of life. Therefore, Islamic psychology deals with all spheres that originate from God alone. For that, ego or self plays a major role and makes mankind responsible for all his actions. Since Islam is a religion of unity, then all processes of mind interrelate to not only self but also to God and society. Therefore, like any other field of knowledge, it is hard to separate psychology or the study of mind from other life principles. As a matter of fact, it is the mind that regulates other affairs, being good or bad. Islamic psychology emphasizes on making humans responsible for their inner soul activities, which lead either to felicity or destruction. Since religion is an intellectual property, then the study of mind is also a spiritual and intellectually property.
