Serving Grandfamilies in Libraries by Sarah Gough,Pat Feehan,Denise Lyons Pdf

Gough, Feehan, and Lyons have taken everything learned from their research on developing GrandFamily Resource Collections and leading grandfamily programming in several states and put it in this easy to use guide. They share the successes and failures of existing programs so other librarians can hit the ground running rather than trudge through a time-consuming and costly period of trial-and-error. It’s a lot more efficient to learn from someone else’s mistakes than to make your own. The target population, grandfamilies, and most specifically, grandparents raising grandchildren have become a statistically-significant group worthy of attention in many communities but library practitioners may not have explored further due to a lack of resources and money. Special features include: List of Web resources (government agencies, support groups, etc.) List of grants and funding opportunities Sample grant applications List of possible community partners for the library Sample surveys or some tactic for getting to know the needs of one’s target population Sample marketing plans Sample promotional materials Sample activity sheets Sample release forms, etc. With this practical and comprehensive guide, your library will be ready to jumpstart or easily expand a stellar program for the grandfamilies in your community.

Joy of Kosher by Jamie Geller Pdf

I was "the bride who knew nothing" . . . And now I love sharing the joy of kosher cooking with people like me: Busy parents who want to make real food for real families in a snap, and people who want to entertain without slaving in the kitchen, knowing their dishes will always elicit oohs and aahs. Our Sabbath and holiday meals are warm, fun, and flowing with food, family, and tons of guests. Do the math: two weekly Shabbos meals + 26 holiday banquets = 130 feasts per year, not to mention feeding my hungry family every other day of the week. That plus a full-time job should qualify me as some kind of expert in fast, fresh family dinners! Here in Joy of Kosher I share more than 100 of my absolute best recipes and give each a creative twist: Dress It Up—add some bling for your party table—or Dress It Down and lure your picky eaters to meals they'll beg for again and again. That's more than 200 recipes! A few of my faves: Crystal Clear Chicken Soup with Julienned Vegetables and Angel Hair (Dress It Down: Chicken Noodle Alphabet Soup) Garlic Honey Brisket (Dress It Down: Honey Brisket Pita Pockets) Miso-Glazed Salmon (Dress It Up: Avocado-Stuffed Miso-Glazed Salmon) Butternut Squash Mac 'n' Cheese (Dress It Down: Mac 'n' Cheese Muffin Cups) Gooey Chocolate Cherry Cake (Dress It Up: Red Wine Chocolate Cherry Heart Cake) And talk about challah! I give you ten yummy variations, including Sun-Dried Tomato, Garlic, and Herb Braided Challah; Blueberry Apple Challah Rolls; Sea-Salted Soft Challah Pretzel Rolls; and Gooey Pecan Challah Sticky Buns. All that, plus gorgeous photos, wine pairings, time-savers, and my guide to sane, no-jitters holiday menus. I hope you love this book as much as I loved writing it for you!

Moving on by Susan S. Kissel Pdf

A background synthesis freshly discussing the work of Chopin, McCullers, O'Connor, Mitchell, and Welty leads to extended treatment of the novels of Shirley Ann Grau, whose protagonists, "keepers of the house," remain their fathers' daughters; of Anne Tyler, whose characters are "fatherless" and "homeless at home"; and Gail Godwin, whose daughter-heroines learn the necessity of autonomy.

Reading Faces by Leslie Zebrowitz Pdf

Do we read character in faces? What information do faces actually provide? Why do we associate certain facial qualities with particular character traits? What are the social and psychological consequences of reading character in faces? Zebrowitz unmasks the face and provides the first systematic, scientific account of our tendency to judge people by their appearance. Offering an in-depth analysis of two appearance qualities that influence our impressions of others—“babyfaceness” and “attractiveness”—and an account of these impressions, Zebrowitz has written an accessible and valuable book for professionals and general readers alike. The assumption that people's faces provide a window to their inner nature has a long and distinguished history, eloquently expressed in the works of ancient philosophers, like Aristotle, and great writers, like Shakespeare. Zebrowitz examines this assumption, focusing on four central points. She shows that facial appearance, particularly babyfaceness and attractiveness, has a strong impact on how we perceive an individual's character traits and on social outcomes in the workplace, in the criminal justice system, and in other settings. She proposes that facial stereotypes derive from evolutionarily adaptive reactions to useful information that faces can provide. She assesses the accuracy of facial stereotypes in light of plausible links between appearance and character. Finally, Zebrowitz suggests ways to counteract the consequences of reading faces.
