Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Malignancies by Cataldo Doria,Jason N. Rogart Pdf

Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary cancers are increasing in incidence, with pancreatic cancer now accounting for the third most cancer deaths in the United States. Typically these malignancies, as a group, are managed by the same key providers comprising a multidisciplinary team. This book is intended to provide a comprehensive review of the current knowledge in the field of hepato-pancreato-biliary malignancies, focusing on the practical and clinical care of patients. We take the approach of combining the collective expertise of an interventional gastroenterologist and a hepato-pancreato-biliary surgeon to provide the readers with accurate, succinct, and pragmatic information needed to formulate the most appropriate treatment plan for their patients with the aim of the best possible outcome. Managing patients with these cancers continues to be challenging because of continued dismal survival rates. Each section in this text is written by experts in their respective field, summarizing the most state-of-the-art, contemporary diagnostic and therapeutic tools available in the field. We believe this book will prove to be an invaluable, comprehensive resource for all members of the multidisciplinary team caring for patients with hepato-pancreato-biliary malignancies.

The first edition of this book was judged by many to be the best available atlas of upper gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery. The second edition builds upon this success by covering all of the significant intervening developments, including both new procedures and adaptations of established techniques. The atlas opens with an introductory section on the basic principles of operative surgery. All of the important surgical techniques are then presented in a series of sections devoted to the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum, the liver, the biliary system, portal hypertension, the pancreas, and the spleen. General, oncologic, and transplantation surgical procedures are described step by step with the aid of more than 900 superb illustrations drawn by a team of artists with extensive experience. Hepatopancreatoduodenectomy by Fujio Hanyu Pdf

Hepatopancreatoduodenectomy (HPD) is a radical new surgical procedure developed in Japan to treat patients with biliary tract carcinoma. The development and clinical application of HPD have been made possible through research conducted primarily by Japanese investigators on common routes of the spread of biliary tract carcinoma. Still regarded as a radical procedure because of its technical difficulty and possible complications, HPD is not yet widely practiced anywhere in the world. The authors of this volume, who are pioneers in the field, are convinced that recent progress in health-care technology will make HPD a safer and more commonly accepted procedure in the near future. The book is designed to share the experience of Japanese researchers with those working in the field throughout the world. The contents include a review of the historical development of HPD in Japan, indications and conditions for HPD, perioperative examinations, and patient management. Also presented are practical aspects of surgical technique and countermeasures against postoperative complications.

Operation Atlas of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery by S. Tashiro,H. Miyake Pdf

This work bridges a gap that exists in the field of hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery: the scarcity of surgical atlases dealing with the individual peculiarities that change from patient to patient and which are of critical importance in determining the outcome of an operation. Previous atlases dealt with the subject in broad strokes, for example advocating right hepatic lobectomy for liver cancer or pancreatoduodenectomy for cancer of the pancreatic head. That approach takes little or no account of the needs of the individual, which can vary greatly, even in patients with similar conditions or whose cancer has spread to the same extent. The editors have produced an experience-based atlas that illustrates just how effective surgery can be when the finer details of previous cases are considered. Even in cases of advanced cancer, which account for 80% of the studies in this book, remarkable results are possible when the appropriate techniques are fully utilized.

Hepatobiliary Cancer by Paul H. Sugarbaker Pdf

When one deals with cancer, the hepatobiliary malignancies present a chal lenge to the oncologists that can be characterized as a series of unsolved clinical and biological dilemmas. Liver metastases from colorectal and other gastrointestinal malignancies, hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocar cinoma, and gall bladder cancer present an array of problems but have two features in common. These are high morbidity and mortality with an overall poor result from treatment. Why is it that hepatobiliary cancer carries with it such a dismal prognosis? First of all, these diseases present, for the most part, in an advanced state. To this point in time the oncologist has had no help from early diagnosis or screening. Only the occasional patient followed by ultrasound or a tumor marker has the disease diagnosed in an asymptomatic state. By the time these diseases become symptomatic, curative treatment options have usually disappeared. Evolution has placed the liver in a protected position in order to avoid injury to the soft parenchyma. As with many other internal organs, the nerve supply is extremely limited. These two anatomic features result in a great lack of early warning signs of cancer.
