General Management in Latin and Ibero-American Organizations by Adrián A. Caldart,Joan E. Ricart,Alejandro A. Carrera Pdf

This book provides an examination of the general manager, which encompasses their roles as strategist, organizational designer and institutional leader. Instead of exclusively focusing on the economic aspect of general management, this book explores a humanist perspective based on the conviction that maintaining high ethical standards is a precondition to the healthy, long-term prosperity of firms and, more importantly, the development of employees. Bringing together a team of contributors from several prestigious business schools in Spain, Portugal, and Central and South America, this book develops the field of general management through academic thinking, research and practical experience in the form of original and relevant case studies from the perspective of Ibero-American business communities. After explaining the foundations of its call for humanist general management practices, the authors focus on themes inherent to strategy and organizing such as sustainability, business model innovation, strategy in emerging markets, strategic alliances, digital strategy and organizational learning. They conclude by focusing on institutional leadership, and provide a fresh look at boards of directors, risk management, family businesses, stakeholder management and the work of CEOs. General Management in Latin and Ibero-American Organizations is an invaluable resource that will be of great interest to practitioners and students in the field of international business, management, organization studies, strategy in emerging markets, leadership and corporate governance.

Humanistic Management in Practice by Ernst von Kimakowitz,Hanna Schirovsky,Carlos Largacha-Martínez,Claus Dierksmeier Pdf

This book demonstrates how principles of a Humanistic Management paradigm are practiced in a variety of industries and regions by businesses of different ownership structures and sizes. What unites these businesses is their commitment to the three stepped approach of Humanistic Management, which is grounded in unconditional respect for the dignity of life, the integration of ethics in management decisions, and active engagement with stakeholders. These businesses are not labeled social enterprises, but operate within the mainstream of competitive markets. However, they do have a deep sense of responsibility towards the communities in which they operate and act accordingly, knowing that sustaining business success over time depends on a value proposition to society at large. The cases featured in this book serve to clarify that businesses can thrive not despite but because they are upholding principles of Humanistic Management. It will be valuable reading for academics working in the field of business ethics, sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

Humanistic Management and Sustainable Tourism by Maria Della Lucia,Ernestina Giudici Pdf

Tourism is a fast-growing and changing industry, which has become a driver of economic development in both developed and underdeveloped countries. While the tourism industry’s potential for shared value creation and sustainable development is acknowledged, the concerns around the environmental and social pressures remain a challenge for businesses, organizations, and destinations. This is because sustainable tourism arguably conflicts with the predominant neoliberal structure of the economy and with the hierarchical, profit- and consumption-driven societies. The emphasis on competition, growth, and profitability may undermine economic viability itself by consuming unreproducible resources and by undermining the six essential elements—dignity, people, prosperity, social justice, planet, and partnership—that are conceptually linked to sustainable development. The crises recurrently challenging the global travel and tourism environment, including climate change, bushfires, extreme weather disasters, pandemics, and the financial crisis, show the weaknesses of neoliberal approaches and the collective economic dependency of countries on tourism that is vulnerable, if not completely unsustainable. This vulnerability asks for understanding that the collective future depends on developing entirely new approaches and interpretation of tourism to effectively respond to the human, societal, social, and climate challenges. This book offers a novel and original perspective entailing the application of a humanistic management approach to sustainable tourism, which is centered on the value of human life, the protection of human dignity and the promotion of well-being. Multiple theoretical approaches, methods, and practical cases, on an international scale, shed light on shared value creation and human dignity as a necessary condition for its achievement in different contexts. Implicitly and explicitly, they respond to the current urgency to implement strategies to recover from the worldwide impact of the pandemic crisis and to provide a vision of what tourism could and should be when it recovers. It will be of interest to researchers, academics, professionals, and postgraduates in the fields of management, sustainability, and tourism development.

Organizing Food, Faith and Freedom by Ozan Nadir Alakavuklar Pdf

Consumerism, unsustainable growth, waste and inequalities continue to ail societies across the globe, but creative collectives have been tackling these issues at a grassroots level. Based on an autoethnographic study about a free food store in Aotearoa New Zealand, this book presents a first-hand account of how a community is organized around surplus food to deal with food poverty, while also helping the reader to see through the complexity that brings the free food store to life. Examining how alternative economies and relations emerge from these community solutions, the author shows it is possible to think, act and organize differently within and beyond capitalist dynamics.

Entrepreneurship at the Bottom of the Pyramid by Carol Dalglish,Marcello Tonelli Pdf

2017 Nautilus Book Awards: Silver Award Winner 2018 Great Northwest Book Festival: Winner 2018 Hollywood Book Festival: Winner Entrepreneurship at the Bottom of the Pyramid seeks to demonstrate to students the range of entrepreneurial activities that can be implemented in developing countries to alleviate poverty. The book blends theory, visual examples and practical learning activities to help students apply their knowledge and encourage thinking ‘outside the box’. It begins by introducing the reader to two fundamental concepts - poverty and the bottom of the pyramid - so they have a solid grasp of the context in which the entrepreneurial activities are implemented. Next, the authors discuss the entrepreneurial process, highlighting the most relevant elements: risk, survival and growth, entrepreneurial actors, the informal sector and micro-credit. Finally, the book describes models to encourage entrepreneurial activities in developing countries. Weaving a primary case study throughout so the reader can apply new knowledge incrementally while moving through the chapters, Dalglish and Tonelli also include several shorter case studies, presenting different problems and implemented solutions in several geographical areas. Students with an interest in entrepreneurship, poverty alleviation and development studies will find this an important read.
