66 Love Letters by Larry Crabb Pdf

The story of God written in intimate love letters just for you. Dr. Larry Crabb knows that if we could see the larger story of Godand humanity, our world would never be the same. That story is found inlarge part in the sixty-six letters of the Bible. Written in a conversational first person, as if God is speakingdirectly to us, Dr. Crabb looks at each individual book in scriptureand boils it down to a one- or two-sentence message to us from thatparticular book. He then unpacks each sentence in a short chapteranswering the question, What does God want me to hear from this loveletter? The book's epilogue then fits all sixty-six pieces of thejigsaw puzzle together into one coherent paragraph and reveals thebeautiful picture of what God has been about since the creation of theworld. Far from being comprehensive, this is a personal approach tohelping readers know God and his great love for them, his message forall mankind, and how their lives fit into His larger story.

Letter from Point Clear by Dennis McFarland Pdf

A brother and sister return to their Southern hometown to rescue their younger sister from her marriage to an evangelical preacher—only to find their expectations turned completely upside down The Owen children long ago left their gracious family home in Point Clear, Alabama, in favor of points north. But when their father takes ill, the youngest, Bonnie, who has spent a decade in Manhattan as an unsuccessful actress, returns to care for him. Soon after his death—unbeknownst to her siblings—she falls in love with and marries a handsome evangelical preacher, and together the couple takes up residence in the stately Owen mansion. When they receive Bonnie's letter announcing her marriage, Ellen and Morris head for Alabama, believing they must extricate their troublesome sister from her latest mistake. To their surprise, they find that Bonnie's charismatic young husband, Pastor, has already saved her from her self-destructive ways, and Bonnie is now nearly three months pregnant. But Bonnie has only recently informed Pastor that Morris is gay, and Pastor quickly undertakes a campaign to "save" him as well . . . With grace, warmth, and humor, Dennis McFarland reveals the common ground shared by these flawed yet captivating characters—setting them all, and the reader with them, on an unlikely course toward redemption.

Undelivered Letters to Hudson's Bay Company Men on the Northwest Coast of America, 1830-57 by Helen M. Buss,Judith Hudson Beattie Pdf

In the early nineteenth century, when the Hudson’s Bay Company sent men to its furthest posts along the coast of North America’s Pacific Northwest, the letters of those who cared for those men followed them in the Company’s supply ships. Sometimes, these letters missed their objects – the men had returned to Britain, or deserted their ships, or died. The Company returned the correspondence to its London office and over the years amassed a file of “undelivered letters.” Many of these remained sealed for 150 years and until they were opened by archivist Judith Hudson Beattie, when the Company archives were moved to Canada. These letters tell the fascinating stories of ordinary people whose lives are rarely recounted in traditional histories. Beattie and Helen M. Buss skilfully introduce us to both the lives of the letter writers and their would-be recipients. Their commentaries frame, for contemporary readers, the words of early nineteenth century working and middle class British folk as well as letters to “voyageurs” from Quebec. The stories of their lives – fathers struggling to support a family, widowed mothers yearning to see their sons, bereft sweethearts left behind, and wives raising their children alone – reach out over two centuries to offer rare insight into the varied worlds of men and women in the early nineteenth century, many of whom became settlers in Washington, Oregon, and the new British colony of Vancouver Island.
