Indian Epigraphy by D.C. Sircar Pdf

The most significant of India's contributions of the civilization of the world was made in the ancient period. Unfortunately, the history of this glorious epoch, which is an interesting chapter in the annals of human civilization, was lost and we have been reconstructing it on the basis of information gathered from various sources. Of these, epigraphy is the most important, since the major part of what we already know about ancient India is derived from the study of inscriptions. In the present work, Professor D.C. Sircar deals with various problems relating to Indian pigraphy and it is expected to be useful to people interested in ancient Indian history in general and Indian inscriptions in particular. Some of the topics discussed herein are: inscriptions and their evidence, languages in which the inscriptions are written, writing materials, the preparation and preservation of documents, copperplate grants, stanzas on bhumi-dana, Indian epigraphy abroad, systems of dating and the different eras, technical expressions including royal titles and official designations, taxes, land measures, nomenclature, etc. There are thirty-six plates illustrating various types of epigraphical records.

History Of The Chamar Dynasty : (From 6Th Century A.D. To 12Th Century A.D.) by Raj Kumar Pdf

The learned author has produced the work with the sole intent to grasp the real Indian civilizational and cultural postulates in the folds of Indian history. As history forms a colossal steep monumental wall with a crest of todayness, it becomes an uptill task to see the lower parts of this characteristic monument from the crest. To see the intended parts, one, brave like a historian, needs climb down with care and hardihood in the valley of such dark monument, to cheak, examine and observe the intended fact. In this work, the author painstakingly has found the truth about the Hindu sub-caste sudra, of which , members overwhelmed time and again against the set caste norms to be rulers and lay foundation of the magnificent dynasties an the Indian sub-continent. This work of History suggests many factual things and nullifies the caste myths-and contributes a lot to the dalits movements. It starts a new debate on the emancipation of castes, present day reservation to sub-castes, and a new perspective of caste system in India. Stands a work of immense value.

Chandragupta Maurya and His Times by Radhakumud Mookerji Pdf

This is a comprehensive work dealing with the life and times of India's first historical emperor, and a picture of the civilization of India in the early period of the fourth century BC. The author while enlightening on the origin and early life, conquests and chronology, administration, ideals, divisions, presents the reader in the court of the first historical emperor of India, duly attended by his popular ministers and officers and acquaints the student with the rules of service and administrative departments. Land system and rural administration are surveyed along with the municipal administration of the times. Justice personified in the King appears before us along with the huge divisions of the army to maintain it. Social and economic conditions have been so elaborately discussed as to cause surprise and curiosity. As a matter of fact, the author takes the reader back to the golden times as if by magic. To render the matter easily accessible to the reader an Index of subjects, an Index of Technical Terms, three Appendices and a plate of typical Mauryan coins, have also been added. This work is meant to fill up a gap in the knowledge of Ancient India.
