Multiferroic Materials by Junling Wang Pdf

"a very detailed book on multiferroics that will be useful for PhD students and researchers interested in this emerging field of materials science" —Dr. Wilfrid Prellier, Research Director, CNRS, Caen, France Multiferroics has emerged as one of the hottest topics in solid state physics in this millennium. The coexistence of multiple ferroic/antiferroic properties makes them useful both for fundamental studies and practical applications such as revolutionary new memory technologies and next-generation spintronics devices. This book provides an historical introduction to the field, followed by a summary of recent progress in single-phase multiferroics (type-I and type-II), multiferroic composites (bulk and nano composites), and emerging areas such as domain walls and vortices. Each chapter addresses potential technological implications. There is also a section dedicated to theoretical approaches, both phenomenological and first-principles calculations.

Microwave Material Applications: Device Miniaturization and Integration by David B. Cruickshank Pdf

This comprehensive new resource based on the classic Artech House title, Microwave Materials for Wireless Applications, introduces the use of new microwave materials for passive devices including ferrites, magnetization garnets, dielectric materials, and absorbers for wireless and antenna applications. This book explores a new set of magnetic and dielectric materials that assist with size reduction of passive devices such as ferrite isolators and circulators. Revised data on the applications of absorbers, including examples of different combinations of magnetic, dielectric, and absorber materials into integrated devices is presented. Meta-materials for antennas and potential antenna integration onto soft boards or LTCC filter technologies using tunable devices with new materials are covered. Professionals learn how new material designs use properties of certain ions in oxide compounds to reduce their physical size, including in cellular base stations designed for 4G and 5G cell phone communication systems. This book exhibits how the integration of new materials into cellular systems using common transmission lines will further save size and reduce complexity. New technologies are presented demonstrating the use of sol-gel processing and ceramic processing in the use of low temperature co-fired ceramics, plastic molding, and 3D printing demonstrating improved device designs.

Nanoscale Ferroelectrics and Multiferroics by Miguel Alguero,J. Marty Gregg,Liliana Mitoseriu Pdf

This two volume set reviews the key issues in processing and characterization of nanoscale ferroelectrics and multiferroics, and provides a comprehensive description of their properties, with an emphasis in differentiating size effects of extrinsic ones like boundary or interface effects. Recently described nanoscale novel phenomena are also addressed. Organized into three parts it addresses key issues in processing (nanostructuring), characterization (of the nanostructured materials) and nanoscale effects. Taking full advantage of the synergies between nanoscale ferroelectrics and multiferroics, the text covers materials nanostructured at all levels, from ceramic technologies like ferroelectric nanopowders, bulk nanostructured ceramics and thick films, and magnetoelectric nanocomposites, to thin films, either polycrystalline layer heterostructures or epitaxial systems, and to nanoscale free standing objects with specific geometries, such as nanowires and tubes at different levels of development. This set is developed from the high level European scientific knowledge platform built within the COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) Action on Single and multiphase ferroics and multiferroics with restricted geometries (SIMUFER, ref. MP0904). Chapter contributors have been carefully selected, and have all made major contributions to knowledge of the respective topics, and overall, they are among most respected scientists in the field.

Ferroics and Multiferroics by Hardev Singh Virk,Wolfgang Kleemann Pdf

Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters BCI (WoS). Multiferroics: that is, materials which simultaneously exhibit both ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity - and also often ferroelasticity - now attract considerable attention because of the interesting physics involved and their promise for important practical applications. Typical multiferroics belong to the perovskite group of transition metal oxides, and include rare-earth manganites and ferrites. Several new multiferroic systems have been developed, during recent years, which exhibit very strong coupling between the ferroelectric and magnetic degrees of freedom. The present volume comprises both review articles, and research papers on various themes; with very little overlap. The authors of the review papers have generally kept in mind the unfamiliarity, of the field of ‘Ferroics and Multiferroics’, to newcomers. They cover the historical development of the field, and add their own contributions.

Electric-Field Control of Magnetization and Electronic Transport in Ferromagnetic/Ferroelectric Heterostructures by Sen Zhang Pdf

This book mainly focuses on the investigation of the electric-field control of magnetism and spin-dependent transportation based on a Co40Fe40B20(CoFeB)/Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.7Ti0.3O3(PMN-PT) multiferroic heterostructure. Methods of characterization and analysis of the multiferroic properties with in situ electric fields are induced to detect the direct magnetoelectric (ME) coupling. A switchable and non-volatile electric field control of magnetization in CoFeB/PMN-PT(001) structures is observed at room temperature, and the mechanism of direct coupling between the ferroelectric domain and ferromagnetic film due to the combined action of 109° ferroelastic domain switching in PMN-PT and the absence of magnetocrystalline anisotropy in CoFeB is demonstrated. Moreover, the electric-field control of giant magnetoresistance is achieved in a CoFeB-based spin valve deposited on top of (011) oriented PMN-PT, which offers an avenue for implementing electric-writing and magnetic-reading random access memory at room temperature. Readers will learn the basic properties of multiferroic materials, many useful techniques related to characterizing multiferroics and the interesting ME effect in CoFeB/PMN-PT structures, which is significant for applications.
