The 2020 ICOLTEC has been successfully held by English Language Education Department of Universitas Islam Indonesia in November 11-12, 2020. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, our virtually held international conference and workshop have managed to invite significant numbers of local, national and international presenters who have generously shared their high-quality papers and research findings through our conference platform. Hence, we are greatly indebted to them. During the past two years, the world of education has tremendously shifted from the conventional traditional classrooms to fully digital learning due to the COVID-19 pandemics. This abrupt and unprepared change has consequently impacted on how classrooms are forced to be conducted in distance mode with the sudden changes of learning media, learning materials, teaching strategies, and teachers’ roles in teaching and learning processes. Stakeholders are to mitigate at no given time at all to prepare for the online learning facilities, let alone create engaged and fun learning activities. The experimental studies using digital learning applications have provided more empirical evidence of their effectiveness in language learning. Teachers who are considering using what learning application that may work well for their students may consider these media. This book has enriched the classroom action research in EFL contexts resulting in positive views on the mobile application for learning both inside and outside the classrooms. Although this book is still far from being complete, it does provide classroom practices of technology use for learning.

Integrating Technology And Humanity Into Language Teaching Book 2 by Jason D. Gold ,Monika Cahya Kusumaningrum,Sri Supiah Cahyati,Cynantia Rachmijati,Khoirrina Nur Fadhilah,Zakiyatul Mufidah,Erika Citra Sari Hartanto Pdf

Language and culture are intertwined aspects in language learning. They share similar contributions in developing second language identity as well as second language learning identity of a learner. Current studies on the integration of culture to language learning tend to highlight intercultural language competence in a multilingual environment (Canagarajah, 2008; Block, 2004). This situation is more developing along with the development of technology. Thus, learning English is more demanding nowadays. It is not only limited to proficiency, yet it deals with how the language that they have learnt brings them to be able to communicate effectively (Kohler, 2020). To do so, it is necessary to consider how culture is manifested to the learning design. This book chapter is aimed to extend the literature on how multilingual environments bring benefits to the language learning process. The order of each article is in accordance with teaching design, cultural exposure through learning materials and emotional issues. In Indonesia, it is not only formal schools that adapt this globalising concept, but also Islamic boarding schools that do the same. This environment, to some extent, affects how the teachers and the students cooperate with each other to merger with learning strategies and translanguaging practices. Thus, this phenomenon brings Khoirina Nur Fadhila’s research on language learning strategies in Islamic high school. She found that the most frequent strategy that is applied by Islamic high school students is problem solving strategies. She discusses further how Islamic curriculum contributes to the emergence of the strategies during English learning. You will find unique strategies that work for them, because they learn both English and Arabic as foreign languages. In a different context, Jason Gold proposed another learning strategy that works for Japanese students. Novel brain-science is proven to be effective to make students more productive in learning English.

The book entitled “Pedagogy-Driven Technology Integration in English Language Teaching” discusses pedagogical soundness and appropriateness of technology to address problems or issues in the teaching and learning process, especially in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning context. It is a relatively new genre, similar to a book review section, in academic journals and magazines. With technology's rapid and disruptive development, teaching and learning in the EFL context may not be the same anymore. Numerous tools, prominently digital ones, have been massively utilized within and beyond the classroom walls. Yet, one thing remains the same, the pedagogical aspects comprising clear and scaffolded learning stages incorporated with technologies must present insights and bring about benefits to the instruction.
