Intelligent Open Learning Systems by Przemysław Różewski,Emma Kusztina,Ryszard Tadeusiewicz,Oleg Zaikin Pdf

In presented book the Intelligent Open Learning Systems (IOLS) are proposed, described, discussed, and evaluated. The IOLS is a system in which traditional methods of online teaching are enhanced through the use of artificial intelligence and cognitive science. This is the main topic of the book. It consists of ten chapters and is divided into three parts. The first part concentrates on the Open Learning System (OLS) analysis, in particular: the social and educational meanings of the OLS, the new role of the teacher and the new requirements regarding the structure of didactic material. Moreover, the cybernetic model of student, teacher and computer collaboration is presented, the teaching-learning process content and its main characteristics are discussed, and the system based approach to the OLS design is proposed. The second part is focused on the problem of knowledge modeling in the OLS based on the ontology and the competence approaches and leading to the learning object concept and competence management in open systems. The third part describes applications of the OLS in the virtual laboratory for competence transfer, the community-built system of distance learning network, and the AGH student city – the real-life application of the OLS concept. The authors’ research findings presented in the book should be useful in various applications related to knowledge management, e-learning systems and information systems.

May the Forcing Functions be with You: The Stimulating World of AIED and ITS Research It is my pleasure to write the foreword for Advances in Intelligent Tutoring S- tems. This collection, with contributions from leading researchers in the field of artificial intelligence in education (AIED), constitutes an overview of the many challenging research problems that must be solved in order to build a truly intel- gent tutoring system (ITS). The book not only describes some of the approaches and techniques that have been explored to meet these challenges, but also some of the systems that have actually been built and deployed in this effort. As discussed in the Introduction (Chapter 1), the terms “AIED” and “ITS” are often used int- changeably, and there is a large overlap in the researchers devoted to exploring this common field. In this foreword, I will use the term “AIED” to refer to the - search area, and the term “ITS” to refer to the particular kind of system that AIED researchers build. It has often been said that AIED is “AI-complete” in that to produce a tutoring system as sophisticated and effective as a human tutor requires solving the entire gamut of artificial intelligence research (AI) problems.

The Theory and Practice of Online Learning by Terry Anderson Pdf

"Neither an academic tome nor a prescriptive 'how to' guide, The Theory and Practice of Online Learning is an illuminating collection of essays by practitioners and scholars active in the complex field of distance education. Distance education has evolved significantly in its 150 years of existence. For most of this time, it was an individual pursuit defined by infrequent postal communication. But recently, three more developmental generations have emerged, supported by television and radio, teleconferencing, and computer conferencing. The early 21st century has produced a fifth generation, based on autonomous agents and intelligent, database-assisted learning, that has been referred to as Web 2.0. The second edition of "The Theory and Practice of Online Learning" features updates in each chapter, plus four new chapters on current distance education issues such as connectivism and social software innovations."--BOOK JACKET.

Evaluation of the distance learning systems in Turkey by Dr. Yakup Çelikbilek Pdf

Education is one of the most important complement for people from the beginning of humanity. With the globalizing and fasten world, Distance Learning has gain an increasing importance. Especially, information technologies increase the spread and importance of the distance learning systems. Institutions and universities have started using distance learning systems day by day to reach the potential students from all over the world. Distance learning systems also decrease the costs of both institutions and students with effective learning way. Distance learning systems principally have four main supplements; cost, technology, education and distance learning related supplements. Due to its structure, the most important supplement of distance learning systems is technology–based components which contains various and complicated details. Most of these details looks totally technical but they are more important actually, because of their implementation to education, and connection with the people using the system. The main motivation of this book is to find out the most important components of distance learning systems in Turkey and prioritize them to lead the distance learning systems more effective and better, both for the students and for the investors. knowledge Within the current literature, none of the studies analyzed all components and prioritize them for both Turkey and in general, especially, educational components and technological components together. With the help of the advanced internet and digital technology, this is a challenging subject for the distance learning systems in today’s world. Educational institutions cannot promote their distance learning programs only with their instructors or course contents anymore like decades ago when the technology is much worse than now. Classical promotion materials do not take attention of the new generation who are digital natives. Because, they have already known how to access something or use technology, at least more than digital immigrants. Especially with the accessible technology and accessible reputed education contents with this technology all around the world, we should observe the importance of education and distance learning components together with technology components. In today’s World, if students want to access a distance learning system, they need only a computer and an internet access, excluding course cost. So, students can access to any distance learning system from all around the world easily. This situation is also valid for distance learning institutions. Similarly, this is valid for distance learning institutions. They can hire anybody from all around the world without bringing them to the institution with a perfect information technologies infrastructure. Investors of distance learning systems and institutions in Turkey should invest in and improve distance learning systems according to the importance of all components of distance learning systems together to get ahead of the world.

Web-based Educational Systems and Learning Styles by Abdulrahman Alghamdi Pdf

Most universities are now moving to online and distance learning systems to meet the needs of different types of learners [1]. Indeed, 'e-learning' is already being used by a number of universities [2], which offer online courses and degree programs. The online and distance learning systems can be used either to replace face-to-face learning or to assist students with face-to-face learning. Numerous different learning styles have been identified, which take into account individual differences in the way people learn. The learning styles theory implies that how much individuals learn has more to do with whether the educational experience is geared toward their particular style of learning than whether or not they are "intelligent". Individuals perceive and process information in very different ways, therefore, there is a necessity for a learning system to take into account as many details as possible in terms of the learning styles of the users [3].......

Open Distance Learning by Oleg Zaikin Pdf

Motivational and social aspects as interactions among teachers and students are essential for a successful educational process in an open distance learning (ODL) environment, and the goal of this book is to develop an interactive model to manage motivation between the participants of the learning process. The book deals with the important and topical problem of e-learning, closely connected with the use of modern information technologies in education. The focus is on developing an information management system for supporting the distance learning process in colleges and universities in the context of steadily expanding information technologies. On the basis of exiting standards (SCORM, etc.) as well as information systems and platforms (e.g., Moodle, etc.), the author proposes a coherent and original concept of modelling three ODL subprocesses: (1) an ontological model (how to represent the structure of didactic materials), (2) a motivation and collaboration model (how to motivate project process participants) and (3) a simulation model (how to realise the learning/project process). The proposed models constitute a theoretical formalization of a new situation in which a teacher and students are obligated to elaborate on didactic material repository content in accordance with the requirements of acquired competencies. A mathematical method based on game theory and simulation is suggested. The kind of educational system represented in the book can be used as a model of open distance learning aimed at active behaviour of students and teachers in not only the development of knowledge but also the acquiring of competencies.
