Investigating Light and Shadow with Young Children (Ages 3-8) by Beth Dykstra Van Meeteren Pdf

Children are intrigued by switches that power a light source and by items that reflect light and sparkle, and they take notice of personal shadows cast on the playground. An understanding of light and shadow is crucial to many STEM fields, including astronomy, biology, engineering, architecture, and more. This book shows teachers how to engage children (ages 3-8 ) with light and shadow in a playful way, building an early foundation for the later, more complex study of this phenomena and, ultimately, for children's interest in professions within the STEM fields. The text offers guidance for arranging the physical environment of classrooms, integrating literacy learning and investigations, and building partnerships with administrators. Each volume in the STEM for Our Youngest Learners Series includes examples of educators and children engaging in inquiry learning, guidance for selecting materials and arranging the learning environment, modifications and accommodations for diverse learners, support for establishing adult learning communities, and more.

Investigating STEM With Infants and Toddlers (Birth–3) by Beth Dykstra Van Meeteren,Sherri Peterson Pdf

The premiere volume in the STEM for Our Youngest Learners Series introduces the Infant Toddler Inquiry Learning Model, a new way to think about how young children (birth–age 3) explore, think, and learn STEM. Accessible to educators from a wide range of educational backgrounds, it is designed specifically to help guide the implementation of STEM experiences into the early childhood curriculum. Readers will see how the model works in real life; how STEM topics can be naturally embedded in daily routines and activities; and how to observe, understand, and interact with children as they explore. This accessible guide presents content and pedagogy aligned with what is known about how children learn and also addresses the challenges educators encounter when implementing STEM with infants and toddlers. Each volume in this new series includes vignettes showing educators and children engaging in inquiry learning, guidance for selecting materials and arranging the learning environment, modifications and accommodations for diverse learners, establishing adult learning communities to support professional development, and more.

Volume 25: Optical Methods of Investigating Solid Bodies by D. V. Skobel tsyn Pdf

The principal results of the work are as follows: 1. A simplified technique was devised for obtaining Raman spectra of powders. 2. The Raman and infrared absorption spectra of the following oxides were investigated: AsP3' SbP3' As 0 - SbP5. Te02. Ge02 (two forms) in the crystalline state, and ASP3' Ge02' Te0 in the glassy state. 2 5 2 3. The vibrational spectra of the crystalline and glassy forms of the oxides ASP3' Ge02' Te02 are simi lar in many main respects, indicating a similarity of their structural units which determine the vibrational spec tra of these substances. 4. By a study of the vibrational spectrum it was shown that arsenious anhydride has a molecular structure and consists of As0 molecules having symmetry of the point group Td' The force constants and vibration fre 4 6 quencies of the As 0 molecule were calculated. and the vibrational spectrum of arsenious anhydride was re 4 6 liably interpreted with the aid of these results. 5. A similar result was obtained for antimonous anhydride. consisting of Sb0 molecule.s with symmetry 4 6 ofthe point group Td. The force constants for this molecule were found and the vibrational spectrum was calculated.

Structuring the Argument by Asaf Bachrach,Isabelle Roy,Linnaea Stockall Pdf

While the argument structure of verbs has long been a central issue in linguistic research of all varieties and continues to be a vexed area of research across a wide range of theoretical and empirical approaches, the inter-disciplinary perspective and dialogue remain largely under explored. This collection stems from an interest to find and explore practical, tangible points of intersection between theoretical linguists, psycholinguists and neurolinguists working on problems related to the representation and processing of verbs and their associated thematic structure. The book is organized around three core themes, (i) the basic building blocks of verbal representations and modes of construction of the verb-argument complex, (ii) non-canonical argument structure realization, with a particular focus on object-experiencer psych verbs, and (iii) the promises and challenges of neurolinguistic and psycholinguistic investigation into argument structure and the prospects for the future of interdisciplinary research on verb argument structure.
