Just Give Me 10 Minutes by Gail Kirby Pdf

“Gail has an incredible perspective as the mother of an injured Corpsman who suffers from PTSD. At the Armed Forces Foundation, we believe families serve too and Gail’s journey is one necessary to tell. When I first met Gail six years ago at Bethesda, I was immediately taken in by her warmth and generosity. She’s a natural and gifted storyteller who deserves far more than 10 minutes.” —Patricia Driscoll, President of the Armed Forces Foundation Christmas Day 2006. Dustin Edward Kirby was serving his second tour in Iraq. The dreaded phone call came; Dusty had “received small arms enemy fire.” This is a first-hand account of how this event changed Dustin’s life and the lives of his family, and their seven year struggle to understand not only the physical trauma inflicted by his injury, but also the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The physical impact of the injury was critical as the armor piercing bullet travelled through his face. The emotional and psychological impacts have been debilitating. This is the story of a family making every attempt to find a way to give their hero the reasons that he needs to live...every single day.

Blacks and Whites in Christian America by Jason E. Shelton Pdf

Conventional wisdom holds that Christians, as members of a “universal” religion, all believe more or less the same things when it comes to their faith. Yet black and white Christians differ in significant ways, from their frequency of praying or attending services to whether they regularly read the Bible or believe in Heaven or Hell. In this engaging and accessible sociological study of white and black Christian beliefs, Jason E. Shelton and Michael O. Emerson push beyond establishing that there are racial differences in belief and practice among members of American Protestantism to explore why those differences exist. Drawing on the most comprehensive and systematic empirical analysis of African American religious actions and beliefs to date, they delineate five building blocks of black Protestant faith which have emerged from the particular dynamics of American race relations. Shelton and Emerson find that America’s history of racial oppression has had a deep and fundamental effect on the religious beliefs and practices of blacks and whites across America.

Intrapreneurship Handbook for Librarians by Arne J. Almquist,Sharon G. Almquist Pdf

Do you have a great idea for an innovation in your library? From idea to execution, this book provides the information necessary to help you to become an intrapreneurial star at your library. Have you ever presented an idea to your boss and had it so firmly rejected that you never want to suggest anything again? Do you feel locked into a rigid hierarchy where bureaucracy has strangled all innovation? Are you motivated to shake things up in your organization to improve it, but are afraid of drowning in the waves you'll create? This book explains how any individual can be an effective change agent in his/her library, addressing topics such as getting started, handling difficult situations, creating partnerships both within and outside of your organization, cutting through bureaucratic red tape, and maintaining momentum with initiatives. Written by librarians who are both experienced entrepreneurs/intrapreneurs, Intrapreneurship Handbook for Librarians: How to Be a Change Agent in Your Library explains what being a library intrapreneur is all about: being empowered to find innovate ways to increase impact, grow resources, and develop new methods of leveraging the skills and perspectives of librarianship to enable the survival of libraries—all while enjoying your job more. The chapters guide readers through the intrapreneurial process—from writing a plan and selling it to administrators and other stakeholders, to securing funding for the idea and actualizing the plan—and answers tough questions such as "How do I let my clients know what my library can offer?", "How do we compete with the Internet?", and "How do I gain support for our services in a time of budget cuts?" This book will be a priceless resource for all librarians regardless of experience level or type of library as the principles and guidelines described are universal.

Michael's Messengers by Lewis Allen Lambert Pdf

In 1931, just three months after his mother's untimely death, 11-year-old Jacob Grunfeld and his father fled Poland on the eve of Hitler's rise to power in Germany. For eight years he lived the American dream in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland where he resided with his German-born father a noted thoracic surgeon. Fearing anti-Semitism, even in America, Jacob's father changed their surname to Meadows and young Jacob became Jack Meadows. During high school Jack learned to fly and discovered a passion that consumed him for the rest of his life. Jack was an extremely exceptional student both in the air and on the ground. Jack graduated college with honors at 18 years of age. In 1939, Jack Meadows, now an American citizen, returned to his native homeland to serve with the Polish Air Force in a futile attempt to halt Nazi aggression and the eventual murder of six million Jews. After Poland was defeated, Jack made his way to England where he joined the RAF. By early 1941, he became the leading fighter pilot among his peers in the Allied Air Forces and was a highly decorated hero of the Battle of Britain. In 1942, Jack was selected to command the 1st Polish Air Force Wing, one of the many foreign units that were an integral part of RAF. In 1939-40, when they were reconstituted in Britain, the Poles distinguished themselves and played a significant role in defeating the Luftwaffe while the Nazis were ravaging their native country. Jack met the love of his life who eventually left him, and met the passion of his life who disappointed him. The women he dearly loved abandoned him. He risked his life for a country that adopted him. He challenged the Luftwaffe whose fiercely skilled pilots had much in common with him. Though Jack was Polish by birth, American by choice and British by fate, he was a German in all other respects thanks to his father.

It’s My Decision by Nitin Kapila Pdf

It is said that the story of our lives is written by God. May be, but I believe that it’s us who write it all and every decision we take marks the beginning of a new chapter in our life. Every decision – be it as trivial as buying a phone or as big as choosing a career – is somehow connected and creates the story of our lives. Good decisions make great memories and bad decisions make great stories. Like others, Kabir also has a story to tell. Hometown boy Kabir is in big trouble. He left his parents, his studies, his friends to follow his dreams but now he thinks it wasn’t even his dream. It was too late to turn things around, until he found that one thing which could fix everything. He decided to end all the troubles by taking his own life. A few months back, he was living a normal student life and had a clear path to follow but now he was all lost. A perfect son, a perfect student, a perfect friend and a perfect lover was now a perfect loser. What exactly had happened in his life, what were those decisions that made him take this decision? That’s what the story is about. As I said “Wrong Decisions make Good Stories”.
