The Restoration of God’s Dwelling and Kingdom by Peter Nyende Pdf

The church in Africa is thriving, both numerically and in its boldness and fervour. Yet the challenge of African folk Christianity – a Christianity shaped more by traditional beliefs than the Bible – continues to loom large, and there remains an acute need for life and faith to be biblically informed. In this introduction to biblical theology, Prof. Peter Nyende draws from nearly two decades of experience teaching the next generation of African church leaders. Maintaining the vital importance of a holistic understanding of Scripture and its unified nature, he presents the central story of both Old and New Testaments as the restoration of God’s dwelling and kingdom in the world. He traces this narrative through its many stages of development — creation and fall, God’s covenants with Israel, exile — to its ultimate fulfilment in Jesus, the church and the new Jerusalem. Though written with pastors and theological students in mind, this book is accessible to any who desire to increase their biblical literacy and partner more fully with the work of God and his kingdom.

Stories with Intent by Klyne R. Snodgrass Pdf

Winner of the 2009 Christianity Today Award for Biblical Studies, Stories with Intent offers pastors and students a comprehensive and accessible guide to Jesus' parables. Klyne Snodgrass explores in vivid detail the historical context in which these stories were told, the part they played in Jesus' overall message, and the ways in which they have been interpreted in the church and the academy. Snodgrass begins by surveying the primary issues in parables interpretation and providing an overview of other parables—often neglected in the discussion—from the Old Testament, Jewish writings, and the Greco-Roman world. He then groups the more important parables of Jesus thematically and offers a comprehensive treatment of each, exploring both background and significance for today. This tenth anniversary edition includes a substantial new chapter that surveys developments in the interpretation of parables since the book's original 2008 publication.

Rooted and Grounded in Love by Timothy Reinhold Eberhart Pdf

God's invitation to join in the love feast of Holy Communion resounds at the very heart of the Christian faith and life. But how are Christians faithfully to gather together in relational bonds of love--in particular, through our daily bread and common cup--amidst a global market economy sustained by social and ecological violence? Drawing on the holiness-communitarian and agrarian-ecological traditions, Rooted and Grounded in Love provides a systematic theological affirmation of holiness as divine wholeness in examining our present industrial agro-economy while also promoting a practical vision for how Christians might participate in the emergence of a more ecologically sustaining, economically charitable, and politically just food system.

Kingdoms of the Heart by Gary Steven Schultz Pdf

Prince Alexander has just turned twenty, instigating crucial events in his life and the Kingdom of Aylon. Under instructions from his father, King Xavion, Alexander’s first order of business is to choose a young lady with the birthright of Aylon and honor her in making her his wife and eventual queen. Already overwhelmed with his royal duties, Alexander approaches the next chapter of his life without any idea of the surprises that lie ahead for him. When his father prods him to treat a visiting princess as his personal guest during her extended stay in Aylon before she returns to her fiancé in Darnell, Alexander reluctantly agrees—until he feels an almost instantaneous chemistry with Arayna that soon leads to forbidden romance. After Alexander discovers his purpose is much deeper than taking the throne, he and Arayna begin an emotional and strategic battle to live life, rather than allowing life to live them. But as Alexander breaks the conventions of his position and era, he puts everything at risk in order to pursue his dreams. In this historical romance, a prince embarks on a touching, coming-of-age journey where he hopes to discover himself, his purpose, and true love.

The Impact Of Reason On Faith, Ethics And Belief by Geran F. Dodson Pdf

The purpose of the book is to examine the theological claims of ethics, faith and belief from a philosophical perspective. The Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants of the Old Testament, Jesus of the synoptic gospels, and Paul’s writings serve as the frame of reference in examining a biblical expression of reason and structured logic. The message of Jesus centered on the Kingdom of God, defined the meaning of faith and belief, established a new ethic, and framed the message in logic forms. The life and death of Jesus brought the realization of God’s final covenant as prophesied by the Old Testament. However, Paul appropriated and developed the Jesus of history into the mythological eschatological Christ figure. The clash of philosophy and theology is evident with theological presuppositions that are based on spiritual insight and divine revelation. Logic in scripture employs propositions based primarily on revealed proof that is within the context of that which cannot be proven absolutely. Uncovering the identity of YHWH in the manuscripts and religious practices of Canaanite culture clearly associated YHWH with the polytheism of the Ugarit texts. YHWH was one of the seventy sons of the Canaanite Most High God El and took on a unique identity that was rooted in El and the polytheistic nature of the pantheon of gods. Theological truths stand within the context of faith and reason stands apart from faith and infers only that which can be proven based on evidence. That which is knowable by faith cannot be known by reason since reason cannot validate that which is not proven to exist.

Sharing the Word through the Liturgical Year by Gustavo Gutierrez Pdf

The characteristic mission of Christians is proclaiming the gospel, the good news of the gratuitous love of God for every person but preferentially for the poor and excluded . . . Our greatest wish is that these pages will be useful to those who seek to meditate on the Lord's word and to share it with others . . . . Gustavo GutiŽrrez, the renowned Peruvian theologian, here shares the wisdom of a pastor and homilist in opening up the riches of scripture through the liturgical year. Covering all three cycles (A-B-C) GutiŽrrez offers penetrating reflections on each of the Sunday lectionary readings. With brief exegesis and homiletic guide, GutiŽrrez offers a perspective on sacred scripture that continually emphasizes its themes of liberation and love, and draws connections to the challenge of faithfulness in our time.

The Revelation of St. John the Divine - Volume 2 by Herb Fitch Pdf

This is the second book of two volumes which completes Herb Fitch's interpretation on The Revelation of St. John the Divine. It was transcribed word for word from the tapes of classes 14 through 25 of the Revelation Seminar he gave in 1970. Over the centuries, John's Revelation was in plain sight, yet, not understood, and the reason is because only the Christ Mind in man can reveal the Truth of Being. Not until the year 1970, did a man (who also experienced the Mind which was in Christ Jesus), sit still in meditation over many months, until, at last, the entire message of the Revelation was revealed once again. That man was Herb Fitch. For those of you who have learned to make that contact with Spirit within, this book will now take you further on the Spiritual path. This book will show you how to let that Spirit take over your life. In other words, it will help you to die out of humanhood and be a transparency for Christ; bringing to you an actual awareness of your own Christhood. It is suggested that you find a quiet place and read only one chapter at a time, until Something calls to you from these pages. Then, put these writings down, and walk away, find a place and sit down to meditate on what has stirred you within. I can tell you with a certainty born of experience that you can walk in another Dimension, right here, and right now, a Kingdom, an inner Temple, not made with hands, incomprehensible to the human mind. It is the Dimension in which your Eternal Self walks. It is the Kingdom in which your Spiritual identity resides. It is an inner Presence, the Spirit, closer than breathing, nearer than hands and feet, and it must take over your entire living experience, both within and without. Only then will you be obeying the message, You must be born of the Spirit.
