Aquatic Survey of Selected Streams with Critical Habitats on National Resource Lands Affected by Livestock and Recreation by Robert N. Winget Pdf
"The purposes of these surveys are to provide aquatic habitat and water quality baseline data to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to be used in the evaluation of: (1) livestock grazing impacts on the flora and fauna of Big Creek, Birch Creek, Thoms Creek, and Trout Creek; and (2) impacts from increased recreational use on the potable water supply and aquatic ecosystem of Rock Creek within Desolation Canyon. These baseline data are to be used in management decision formulation by the BLM for the management of land/water resources on national resource lands (NRL) in Utah"--Page 1

Habitats and Ecological Communities of Indiana by John O. Whitaker, Jr.,Charles J. Amlaner, Jr.,Marion T. Jackson,George R. Parker,Peter E. Scott Pdf
In Habitats and Ecological Communities of Indiana, leading experts assess the health and diversity of Indiana's eight wildlife habitats, providing detailed analysis, data-generated maps, color photographs, and complete lists of flora and fauna. This groundbreaking reference details the state's forests, grasslands, wetlands, aquatic systems, barren lands, and subterranean systems, and describes the nature and impact of two man-made habitats—agricultural and developed lands. The book considers extirpated and endangered species alongside invasives and exotics, and evaluates floral and faunal distribution at century intervals to chart ecological change.
Wildlife Habitats in Managed Forests by Jack Ward Thomas,United States. Forest Service Pdf
That is what this book is about. It is a framework for planning, in which habitat is the key to managing wildlife and making forest managers accountable for their actions. This book is based on the collective knowledge of one group of resource professionals and their understanding about how wildlife relate to forest habitats. And it provides a longoverdue system for considering the impacts of changes in forest structure on all resident wildlife.

The Changing Status of Arable Habitats in Europe by Clive Hurford,Phil Wilson,Jonathan Storkey Pdf
This edited volume documents the current nature conservation status of arable habitats in Europe. Arable farming systems have evolved in the European landscape over more than ten thousand years and now occupy nearly 30% of the European land area. They support species that have life cycles closely synchronised with traditional cereal growing, many of which have experienced massive declines throughout Europe. For example, in Britain, of the 100 plant species exhibiting the greatest declines in the latter half of the 20th century, 47 were typical of arable land. Despite this the habitat and many of the species associated with it remains unprotected across much of Europe. The 22 chapters cover a range of topics, including: · Regional accounts describing the impact of changing agricultural practices on the arable flora; · The results of research and surveillance projects on the soil organisms, bryophyte flora, invertebrate fauna and pollinators of arable habitats; · The potential for designing multifunctional and resilient agricultural landscapes; The use of ex situ conservation to aid the reintroduction of rare arable plants; · Case studies illustrating how changing agricultural practices have impacted on bird populations in Europe; · The roles of remote sensing in monitoring agricultural systems; · How agri-environment schemes can help restore the biodiversity in arable habitats; and · A look forward at ways to help ensure the future security of the species associated with arable habitats. It is clear that the biodiversity of arable land throughout Europe has undergone major changes, particularly during the second half of the 20th century, and that these changes are continuing into the 21st century. We need to develop a deeper appreciation of farmland wildlife and its integration into farming systems to ensure its future security in a world where value is increasingly expressed in terms of material profit. This book is particularly relevant to practitioners, policy-makers and managers working in the fields of nature conservation, agri-environment schemes and land management, and to researchers working in the fields of conservation biology, terrestrial ecology, nature conservation, applied ecology, biodiversity, agriculture, agricultural ethics and environmental studies.
Riparian Habitats and Recreation by Raymond Roy Johnson,Steven Warren Carothers Pdf
Riparian habitats are characterized by outstanding species richness and population densities of both plants andanimals. Increasing recreational pressures on these ecotones between water and surrounding uplands are forcing management agencies to re-analyze consumptive versus non-consumptive resource allocations. This report tackles issues such as grazing, irrigation, watershed and vegetation management, urbanization, flood control, and off-road vehicles, and discusses effects on soils, vegetation, wildlife, water and air quality.
