Treks Into Intuitive Geometry by J. Akiyama Pdf

This book is written in a style that uncovers the mathematical theories hidden in our daily lives, using examples of patterns that appear in nature, arts, traditional crafts, as well as mathematical mechanics in architectural techniques. The authors believe that through conversations between students and mathematicians, readers may learn about the methods used by the originators of these theoriestheir trials, errors, and triumphsin reaching their various conclusions. The goal is to help readers refine their mathematical sense in terms of formulating valuable questions and pursuing them. In addition, the book aims to provide enjoyment in the application of mathematical principles to beautiful art and design by using examples that highlight the wonders and mysteries of these works found in our daily lives. To achieve these goals, the book tackles the latest exquisite results on polygons and polyhedra and the dynamic history of geometric research found around us. The term "intuitive geometry" was coined by Lszlo Fejes Tth and refers to the kind of geometry which, in Hilbert's words, can be explained to and appeal to the "man on the street." This book enables readers to enjoy intuitive geometry informally and instinctively. It does not require more than a high school level of knowledge but calls for a sense of wonder, intuition, and mathematical maturity. In this second edition, many new results, and elegant proofs on a variety of topics have been added, enhancing the books rich content even further.

Intuition by Cate Howell Pdf

Intuition is something most of us would have experienced at one time or another; it’s that gut-feeling or inner voice or ‘sixth sense’. It’s instinctive by nature, independent of rational analysis or deductive thinking. But can we actively develop our intuition and learn how to better utilise it? Author Dr Cate Howell believes we can, and shows us how in Intuition. In this fascinating book, Dr Howell explores how intuition has been a part of philosophy, psychology, religion and spirituality, from ancient times right up to the present. She also looks at the science behind intuition, and how our experience of it can be described in terms of our brain function. Finally, she sets out a practical seven-step program for developing intuition and using it to enhance everyday life so that we experience an increased sense of peace, purpose and joy. Practical exercises and meditations are included throughout the book, inviting us to unlock the door to our own intuition garden and encourage it to flourish. ‘Intuition is a vital part of life and practice and now we have a book that will help us to develop this essential skill.’ Professor Ian Wilson, Associate Dean, Graduate School of Medicine, University of Wollongong

Contextualisms in Epistemology by Elke Brendel,Christoph Jäger Pdf

Contextualism has become one of the leading paradigms in contemporary epistemology. According to this view, there is no context-independent standard of knowledge, and as a result, all knowledge ascriptions are context-sensitive. Contextualists contend that their account of this analysis allows us to resolve some major epistemological problems such as skeptical paradoxes and the lottery paradox, and that it helps us explain various other linguistic data about knowledge ascriptions. The apparent ease with which contextualism seems to solve numerous epistemological quandaries has inspired the burgeoning interest in it. This comprehensive anthology collects twenty original essays and critical commentaries on different aspects of contextualism, written by leading philosophers on the topic. The editors’ introduction sketches the historical development of the contextualist movement and provides a survey and analysis of its arguments and major positions. The papers explore, inter alia, the central problems and prospects of semantic (or conversational) contextualism and its main alternative approaches such as inferential (or issue) contextualism, epistemic contextualism, and virtue contextualism. They also investigate the connections between contextualism and epistemic particularism, and between contextualism and stability accounts of knowledge. Elke Brendel is Professor of Philosophy at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. She has published numerous articles on logic, epistemology, the philosophy of science, and the philosophy of language. She is the author of Die Wahrheit über den Lügner (The Truth About the Liar, 1992), Grundzüge der Logik II – Klassen, Relationen, Zahlen (Foundations of Logic II – Sets, Relations, Numbers, with Wilhelm K. Essler, 1993), and Wahrheit und Wissen (Truth and Knowledge, 1999). Christoph Jäger is Lecturer in Philosophy at Aberdeen University, United Kingdom, and Privatdozent of Philosophy (honorary office) at the University of Leipzig, Germany. He has published numerous articles on epistemology, the philosophy of mind, and the philosophy of religion. Books: Selbstreferenz und Selbstbewusstsein (Self-reference and Self-knowledge, 1999), Analytische Religionsphilosophie (Analytic Philosophy of Religion, ed., 1998), Kunst und Erkenntnis (Art and Knowledge, ed., with Georg Meggle, 2004), Religion und Rationalität (Religion and Rationality, forthcoming).

Intuitive Analog Circuit Design by Marc Thompson Pdf

Intuitive Analog Circuit Design outlines ways of thinking about analog circuits and systems that let you develop a feel for what a good, working analog circuit design should be. This book reflects author Marc Thompson's 30 years of experience designing analog and power electronics circuits and teaching graduate-level analog circuit design, and is the ideal reference for anyone who needs a straightforward introduction to the subject. In this book, Dr. Thompson describes intuitive and "back-of-the-envelope" techniques for designing and analyzing analog circuits, including transistor amplifiers (CMOS, JFET, and bipolar), transistor switching, noise in analog circuits, thermal circuit design, magnetic circuit design, and control systems. The application of some simple rules of thumb and design techniques is the first step in developing an intuitive understanding of the behavior of complex electrical systems. Introducing analog circuit design with a minimum of mathematics, this book uses numerous real-world examples to help you make the transition to analog design. The second edition is an ideal introductory text for anyone new to the area of analog circuit design. LTSPICE files and PowerPoint files available online to assist readers and instructors in simulating circuits found in the text Design examples are used throughout the text, along with end-of-chapter examples Covers real-world parasitic elements in circuit design and their effects

Intuition Journal by Let's That Pdf

Intuition is "The highest form of intelligence". Intuition, we all have it. It's that little voice that whispers, "Don't take your normal route to work today". You listen, and avoid a major accident. Or you hear, "Your glasses are under the table in the living room". You look, and there they are. It's the voice that tells you to say I love you, give a hug, smile at that stranger, offer help, just let it go, don't set your keys there... and a thousand other small, inconsequential, (or so they can seem) thoughts you have throughout the day. And even some big ones. Intuition comes to you in many ways. It can be a voice in your head or a hunch or just a thought. It can be a feeling that washes over your body, or maybe a gut feeling, something you feel in the pit of your stomach. It can come in the form of a dream or an idea. It can be a still small voice that whispers to you, or it can be as the roar of a lion shouting at you. Learning to recognize and respond to that voice can take practice. And that's what this little journal is about. By documenting when you feel that nudge, how you responded to it, or not, and what the outcome was, you will begin to recognize what intuition feels like, how many times a day you receive it, and you will learn to trust it. And to trust yourself. Within this journal, there are spaces to track the thought or feeling, how you received it, how you responded to it (did you act, and if so, what did you do, or did you ignore it), and what the outcome was. Then there's space to ponder what it means to you and in your life. By paying attention to and responding to that voice you can avoid minor inconveniences, major catastrophes, and even a lifetime of regret. Intuition is a powerful tool, that when used frequently and confidently, can help you make better decisions and improve every area of your life. But the trick is to learn how to recognize it. And you learn how to recognize it by using and testing it. Got a hunch? Test it out. Have a feeling? Act on it. The more you use your intuition the stronger it will become and the more powerful you will feel in every aspect of your life. So don't wait. Start tracking your intuition now! Understanding and Teaching the Intuitive Mind by Bruce Torff,Robert J. Sternberg Pdf

The intuitive mind is a powerful force in the classroom and often an undetected one. Intuitive conceptions--knowledge or knowledge-structures that individuals acquire and use largely without conscious reflection or explicit instruction--sometimes work to facilitate learning in the classroom and other contexts. But learning may also be impeded by intuitive conceptions, and they can be difficult to dislodge as needed. The literatures in psychology and education include a large and diverse body of theory and research on intuitive conceptions, but this work is limited in some respects. This volume contributes in four ways to overcome these limitations. Understanding and Teaching the Intuitive Mind: Student and Teacher Learning: * pulls together diverse theoretical and methodological approaches to the origin, structure, function, and development of intuitive conceptions; * explores a diversity of academic disciplines--paying equal attention not only to mathematics and science, the fields in which intuitive concepts have been studied most extensively, but also to the social sciences, arts, and humanities; * explicitly links theory and research to educational implications and classroom applications; and * focuses not only on students' intuitive conceptions but also on teachers' intuitive beliefs about learning and teaching. Although the viewpoints of the contributors are diverse, they share the belief that educational practices have much to gain by systematic studies of the intuitive learner and teacher. This volume offers state-of-the-art, research-based information and support for psychologists, teacher educators, educational administrators, teachers, prospective teachers, and others who seek to develop educational practices that are cognizant of (and responsive to) the intuitive conceptions of students and teachers.
