Porthole was an early life nickname that has stuck with me for over seventy-five years. I had joined the US Navy Reserve and became an avid competitive sailor. My poetry reflects my views and visions on life and love and God. So I have used Porthole to identify those poetic literary efforts.

Rhythms of Rest by Shelly Miller Pdf

An Inspiring, Practical Guide to Finding Rest and Getting Closer to God Sabbath-keeping not only brings physical refreshment, it restores the soul. God commands us to "remember the Sabbath," but is it realistic in today's fast-paced culture? In this warm and helpful book, Shelly Miller dispels legalistic ideas about Sabbath and shows how even busy people can implement a rhythm of rest into their lives--whether for an hour, a morning, or a whole day. With encouraging stories from people in different stages in life, Miller shares practical advice for having peaceful, close times with God. You will learn simple ways to be intentional about rest, ideas for tuning out distractions and tuning in God, and even how meals and other times with friends and family can be Sabbath experiences. Ultimately, this book is an invitation to those who long for rest but don't know how to make it a reality. Sabbath is a gift from God to be embraced, not a spiritual hoop to jump through.

Straight from God by Brian L. Steenhoek Pdf

Straight From God's Corner Ministry was started after I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in 1992. After attending a Promise Keepers convention and having the opportunity to hear Max Lucado speak, I prayed to the Lord to give me the opportunity to encourage and uplift people with the words he gives me as a writer. For the past 11 years, I have been writing to followers of Straight From God's Corner over the Internet, which started from a handful, expanding to several hundred all across the world today. By God's grace, he has opened this door for me to complete this book and has provided everything needed to do so. I am excited to see where he will be taking me next on this journey. Straight From God's Corner is full of short uplifting, encouraging messages from my heart to yours. Some will make you think, some will help you grow, and some will even make you laugh or cry. It is my prayer Straight From God's Corner will touch, encourage, or lift you up with the message of Jesus Christ. May all the glory go to the Lord. Brian L. Steenhoek resides in Ludlow, KY, is a senior executive with a major health network, and a writer. He served in the US Army 82nd Airborne and has studied at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Burning Center, Porous Borders by Eleazar S. Fernandez Pdf

Burning Center, Porous Borders articulates what the church is and is called to be about in the world, a world now globalized to the point that the local is lived globally and the global is lived locally. The church must respond creatively and prophetically to the challenges-economic disparity, war and terrorism, diaspora, ecological threat, health crisis, religious diversity, and so on-posed by our highly globalized world. It can do so only if the church's spiritual center burns mightily. Conversely, it can burn mightily in the spirit of Christ only if its borders are porous and allows the fresh air/spirit of change to blow in and out. While there is much rhetoric about change, the most common response to change is to continue doing business as usual. This is particularly the case in the face of perceived global threats. In spite of the hoopla and euphoria of the global village, walls of division and exclusion are rising, hearts are constricting, and moral imagination shrinking. In response to this context, Burning Center, Porous Borders proposes alternative ways or images of being a church: burning center and porous borders, wall-buster and bridge-builder, translocal (glocal), mending-healer, radical hospitality, community of the earth-spirit, household of life abundant, dialogians of life, and community of hope. In Burning Center, Porous Borders congregational vitality and progressive praxis kiss and embrace!

Spiritual Transformational Yoga by Sally Bassett Ph.D. Pdf

Spiritual transformational yoga takes a step-by-step approach through the eight limbs of yoga. Most people initially come to the mat because of the physical practice and all the benefits that yoga offers for strengthening the body and increasing flexibility. The actual point of yoga is to unite oneself with God. Yoga is not a religion but is open to all religions. It is a spiritual discipline that can provide helpful tools to strengthen one's faith. The eight limbs of yoga provides a path to oneness with God. The first two limbs concentrate on external and internal values. Next comes the postures to prepare the body physically to sit in prayer and meditation for periods of time. Breath work is incorporated after the physical practice to calm the mind even further for meditation. It is then that the individual begins withdrawing from the senses, going inward to focus and being, then eventually meditating and being one with God. Dr. Sally Bassett has written this book based on her experience of traveling and leading groups to over 120 countries. Sally has practiced yoga; prayed and/or meditated on the banks of the Ganga River in India, an abbey with Trappist monks, a convent with the Sister of Saint Benedict, in Muslim prayer rooms throughout the world, and a French ashram in the Loire Valley; sung gospel songs around campfires with rural women in Uganda; sat with monks in silence across Asia; listened to the beliefs from Native American Indians in Western United States; prayed in cathedrals across the globe lighting candles too numerous to count; and hiked hundreds of miles of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain. Sally is a humanitarian, world traveler, seeker, and founder of Peace through Yoga Foundation. Sally's enthusiasm toward life as well as her creative and spiritual approach to yoga have been keys to her success. Her yoga journey has included a twelve-year ownership of two yoga studios, teaching yoga and philosophy as an adjunct professor at Butler University and cofounding the Yoga and Spirituality program at Christian Theological Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sally lives and teaches yoga in the village of Zionsville, Indiana, when she is not traveling the world. All proceeds go to Peace through Yoga Foundation (www.peacethroughyoga.org).

On Giants' Shoulders by Simon J. Watson Pdf

Many of us are seeking new meaning for our lives and a fresh spiritual perspective in a world rocked by global warming, economic meltdowns, and political unrest. For those ready to challenge or refresh some of their deepest beliefs and assumptions, this book is an invaluable guide to a new way of spiritual thinking. In a series of candid and increasingly dynamic dialogues that echo and interpret many of the ideas and concepts of spiritual, religious and metaphysical teachers of past and present, the author engages in a steadfast and relentless pursuit of a deeper, clearer understanding of the intangible truths of our existence, until they become his own. The book covers subjects such as: The true nature of time Facing fear and overcoming victim status Understanding violence and war What 'free will' really means The purpose of negative events The four levels of human consciousness Why conscious "being" is more important than busy "doing" How you relate to your Soul The essential polarities of Good and Evil The Nature of God You will find yourself turning to this book time and again as you grow in awareness and continue to seek new ways to make sense of your life and world in these unsettling times. Each time you read it you'll discover something new.

The Forgotten Edge of Russia by Richard Schilling Pdf

The book, in words and watercolor paintings, is about a forgotten landand a people who were forgotten by their government and by the Church. But God has not forgotten the people of Chukotka. My mission was to provide dental treatment and to tell them about Jesus, who can mend a broken heart and replace hopelessness. In this desolate land I found my own emotional healing in Gods Word, friendships, and the joy of painting. This book can be an encouragement to those in Gods service who may experience weariness.
