Local Heritage, Global Context by Rosy Szymanski Pdf
'Sense of place' has become a familiar phrase, used to describe emotional attachment to a particular location. As heritage management policy and practices increasingly attempt to draw on the views and expressions of interest amongst local communities, it is important to have a better grasp of what people mean by this concept, and to assess its uses and implications. Here, a range of practitioners from NGO, agency, cultural heritage and archaeological backgrounds review the meanings of 'sense of place', and where it is useful in the context of heritage management practice. This volume breaks new ground in specifically addressing place attachment from a cultural heritage perspective, and drawing on local and national interests from a diversity of cultural situations. Illustrated with case studies from around Europe and Australia, the book addresses key themes, including the rootedness amongst communities in the past; policy-making for accommodating senses of place within planning and management, for land- sea- and city-scapes; official versus unofficial views; and the often difficult balance between planning policies that extend from regional to global scale, and local actions and perceptions.
Assessing Young Learners of English: Global and Local Perspectives by Marianne Nikolov Pdf
This volume documents international, national, and small-scale testing and assessment projects of English language education for young learners, across a range of educational contexts. It covers three main areas: age-appropriate ‘can do statements’ and task types for teaching and testing learners between the ages of 6 to 13; innovative approaches to self-assessment, diagnostic testing, self- perception, and computer-based testing; and findings on how young learners perform on vocabulary, listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading comprehension tests in European and Asian contexts. Early language learning has become a major trend in English language education around the globe. As a result of the spread of teaching English to a growing number of young children, assessment of and for learning have emerged as key issues. In line with this development, there is a clear and emerging need to make early language programs accountable and to assess both the progress children make over time and to quantify their achievement at various stages of development. This volume informs stakeholders about the realistic goals of early language learning, their efficiency, and how much progress children make over time.
Global and local perspectives on language contact by Katrin Pfadenhauer,Sofia Rüdiger,Valentina Serreli Pdf
This edited volume pays tribute to traditional and innovative language contact research, bringing together contributors with expertise on different languages examining general phenomena of language contact and specific linguistic features which arise in language contact scenarios. A particular focus lies on contact between languages of unbalanced political and symbolic power, language contact and group identity, and the linguistic and societal implications of language contact settings, especially considering contemporary global migration streams. Drawing on various methodological approaches, among others, corpus and contrastive linguistics, linguistic landscapes, sociolinguistic interviews, and ethnographic fieldwork, the contributions describe phenomena of language contact between and with Romance languages, Semitic languages, and English(es).

Regional and local perspectives on tenure insecurity in the Loreto and Madre de Dios regions of Peru by Zamora, A.,Monterroso, I. Pdf
In Madre de Dios and Loreto, tenure security in native communities extends beyond the recognition and titling process. Regional and local actors have identified economic, social and political factors that threaten communities’ freedom to exercise their rights after they have received title. According to local actors, insecure tenure is a result of indigenous issues not being a priority in the national and regional political agenda, incoherence between regulations and local realities as well as a lack of progress in decentralizing public roles and empowering communities. Participatory prospective analysis (PPA) allows for incorporating actors’ different perspectives, exchanging information and generating shared knowledge on the issue of insecure communal tenure.
