This book highlights the impact that the Fascial Manipulation® - Stecco® method for fascial dysfunctions, developed by Italian physiotherapist Luigi Stecco, has had on the clinical practice of 16 well-established practitioners from a total of seven different countries and from different disciplines, including physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy and massage therapy. It gives voice to some of the experienced practitioners who have acknowledged Luigi Stecco's work and have played an important role in the diffusion of this method in their respective countries. The knowledgeable 'clinical eye' of these practitioners will have immense value for their peers. An introductory chapter outlines the theoretical models underlying the Fascial Manipulation - Stecco method and the clinical reasoning process applied in this method. Each subsequent chapter presents the application of the Fascial Manipulation - Stecco method in detailed case reports. Chapters are divided into three main sections (Musculoskeletal, Internal Dysfunctions and Other Perspectives) and they provide useful information either for other practitioners of this method or for colleagues who are interested in approaching this type of fascial work. Furthermore, the personal accounts presented here provide ulterior historical background to the development and spread of the Fascial Manipulation - Stecco method, which has generated and continues to generate numerous areas for research.

The Edge of Islam by Janet McIntosh Pdf

In this theoretically rich exploration of ethnic and religious tensions, Janet McIntosh demonstrates how the relationship between two ethnic groups in the bustling Kenyan town of Malindi is reflected in and shaped by the different ways the two groups relate to Islam. While Swahili and Giriama peoples are historically interdependent, today Giriama find themselves literally and metaphorically on the margins, peering in at a Swahili life of greater social and economic privilege. Giriama are frustrated to find their ethnic identity disparaged and their versions of Islam sometimes rejected by Swahili. The Edge of Islam explores themes as wide-ranging as spirit possession, divination, healing rituals, madness, symbolic pollution, ideologies of money, linguistic code-switching, and syncretism and its alternatives. McIntosh shows how the differing versions of Islam practiced by Swahili and Giriama, and their differing understandings of personhood, have figured in the growing divisions between the two groups. Her ethnographic analysis helps to explain why Giriama view Islam, a supposedly universal religion, as belonging more deeply to certain ethnic groups than to others; why Giriama use Islam in their rituals despite the fact that so many do not consider the religion their own; and how Giriama appropriations of Islam subtly reinforce a distance between the religion and themselves. The Edge of Islam advances understanding of ethnic essentialism, religious plurality, spirit possession, local conceptions of personhood, and the many meanings of “Islam” across cultures.

Learn and Teach Swahili by Yourself (intermediate Level): Grade Ten by Elizabeth Godwin MAHENGE Pdf

Kiswahili language is among the easiest language to learn over the world's languages. This is due the fact that, you pronounce a word as you write it. This is contrary to Indo-European languages such as German, English and French to mention just a few whose pronunciations are quite different from how they are written. With this book in your hand you will find your life very easy due to the friendly ways or learning this language as presented by your coach who is 'me'. I have enough experience on teaching Kiswahili as a second language for foreigners. Specifically I have taught students from ACM programme, Brown, Florida, Ohio and Georgetown all of these students were from United States of America. Also I taught students from Japan, China, South Korea, South Africa, Ghana, and UK. I have 12 years experience now in this field.I will give you a secret to fulfill your dreams. Here's the secret, in the first week after you have started learning or teaching this language by yourself, you should try to acquire more than fifty new vocabularies. In week two, three times of the first week. From the third week to a month, more than a thousand new vocabularies should be acquired. In addition to this, you as a learner you are supposed to construct five sentences in week one. In week two, you are supposed to write a story about half a page. Week three, you are supposed to write one page story while in week four, you should write two pages (I call them 'story' but you can just call essay). You can write about yourself or about your lovely dog. You can also write from the tours to museums, or trips to Mount Kilimanjaro or Serengeti. Or you can write from your experiences gained so far in your interaction with Kiswahili. Or otherwise you can compose or write a story or essay about what things made you happy or worse in a new environment (in case you have decided to travel abroad to Tanzania to have interaction with language, culture and people). Or you can write about your host family in Tanzania, et cetera.Kiswahili is one of the simplest languages to learn as I have said early and this is due to the fact that, "you write a word as it is pronounced" compared to other languages which differ in writing from the way they are pronounced. Interacting with native speakers will improve your pronunciation as long as you will listen to the way people communicate with each other. With this intermediate level the book will expose you to moderate complex Kiswahili grammatical processes that are crucial for your second step towards mastering Kiswahili language. Among the topics covered in this manual are as follows: Subject markers; Kiswahili noun classes with subject markers; Object markers; Negative markers; Tenses in affirmative; Tenses in negation Possessives and Noun classes with possessives markers.Every topic has some examples on how to go about, together with simple exercises which have their answers at the back. Enjoy your study.
