The Armenian Issue in Nine Questions and Answers by Foreign Policy Institute (Turkey) Pdf

This document accuses Armenian sources in foreign countries of "malicious propaganda based on certain repearted allegations" against Turkey. It seeks to defend Turkey against these claims by addressing nine allegations. 1. That Eastern Anatolia is the original homeland of the Armenians. 2. That beginning with the Seljukis and Ottomans, Turks have seized from Armenians their territories and occupied them by force. 3. That Turks have misruled and suppressed the Armenians throughout history. 4. That Turks have gun to massacre the Armenians as of 1890's. 5. That Turks have submitted the Armenians to a genocide in 1915 in a planned and systematic way. 6. That Talat Pasha issued telegrammes ordering genocide. 7. That the number of Armenians who lost their lives through genocide is one and one half million. 8. That the Treaty of Sèvres is still in force. 9. That today Turks are still keeping Armenians under oppression.

Armenians in the Service of the Ottoman Empire by Mesrob K. Krikorian Pdf

First published in 1977. Although hundreds of books have been published on the Armenian question and massacres, very little is known about their services in the cultural, economic and administrative life and development of the Ottoman Empire. This study is an investigation into the contribution by Armenians to Ottoman public life from 1860, when the Armenian community in Turkey was given a new legislative Constitution on the basis of Tanzimat (Reforms) until 1908, when the young Turks seized power and there followed a bitterly fanatic policy of intolerance which had tragic consequences for both the Armenians and the Turks. The author has concentrated his investigations on the eastern provinces of Anatolia, which earlier formed the western part of historic Armenia and which in the diplomatic language of the nineteenth century were referred to as ‘provinces inhabited by Armenians’. To these he has added the provinces of Syria, close to the neighbouring Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, and where, especially in and around Aleppo, old Armenian communities had settled. Both in Anatolia and Syria, the Armenians were employed in various administrative, judicial, economic and secretarial fields and, to a lesser extent, in technical affairs, agriculture, education and public health. The author shows how this contribution was made in spite of the fact that for the Armenians these were years of transition from their established status as a favoured Christian millet to the tragic insecurity of a hunted people.

The Armenians by David Marshall Lang Pdf

Originally published in 1981, this book tells the story of the Armenian dispersion and gives a graphic account of the persecution of the Armenians by the Turks from 1895 to 1922 which foreshadowed the Jewish holocaust at the hands of Hitler, who is said to have modelled some of his own ideas on those of the Young Turks. Drawing upon material from little-known sources, this book follows the trail of the Armenians from their native lands around Mount Ararat to such far-flung spots as lhasa, Harbin and Buenos Aires. This lively and readable book is an excellent account of a people who have been partly in exile for some 2,000 years.

The Forgotten Church by Debabrata Maulik Pdf

Just as the Portuguese settled in Goa, the Jews in Cochin and the Parsis in Bombay, the Armenians had rendered a special fragrance in Calcutta. Being the best of commercial minds, the Armenians came to India as merchants and prevailed on Eastern India’s commerce long before the British. Their commercial acumen won them great dividends in the Bengali trade, which they linked with the world trade network. They loved Bengal in their own way and made Calcutta their special home forever. The author has inked the five-century-old stories of the Armenians including the golden period of Indian foreign trade in the present work. Armenians had settled in different parts of India. Combined with boundless energy, they raised themselves to the stiff ladder of fame. They shined from the early Mughal period till the British periods as able administrators, clever diplomats, military commanders, skilled artisans, renowned poets, eminent lawyers, Judges, surgeons and merchants. Present work has scripted all these roles the Armenians adopted and touched every Indian heart. Maintaining social culture was an integral part of their life. Socially they remained closely knitted. Culturally they were strictly abided by Christianity. They always made their own beautiful Churches. Mortal remains of many great Armenian personalities lay buried in the Church graveyards of Saidabad, Chinsura, Chandannagore, Calcutta and many other places. Many of their monuments stand today as silent witnesses of the once vibrant commercial India, and many of their beautiful Churches stand forgotten today. The Forgotten Church – Remembering Armenians of Saidabad is centered on one such Church, which was built at Saidabad and has since been forgotten.

From 1894 to 1924 three waves of violence swept across Anatolia, targeting the region’s Christian minorities.
