Modern NMR Approaches to the Structure Elucidation of Natural Products by Antony Williams,Gary Martin,David Rovnyak Pdf

The Ghanian plant Cryptolepis sanguinolenta is the source of a series of fascinating indoloquinoline alkaloids. The most unusual member of this alkaloid series was initially proposed to be a spiro nonacyclic structure, named cryptospirolepine, and was elucidated in 1993 based on the technologies available at that time. There were, however, several annoying attributes to the structure that bothered analysts for the ensuing 22 years. During the two decades that followed the initial work there have been enormous developments in NMR technology. Using new experimental approaches, specifically homodecoupled 1,1- and 1,n-HD-ADEQUATE NMR experiments developed in 2014, the structure of only a 700 µg sample of cryptospirolepine has been revised and is shown on the cover of this volume. The confluence of the NMR technological and methodological advances that allowed the revision of the structure of cryptospirolepine using a submilligram sample seems a fitting example for this book, which is dedicated to the NMR characterization of various classes of natural products. Volume 2 considers data processing and algorithmic based analyses tailored to natural product structure elucidation and reviews the application of NMR to the analysis of a series of different natural product families including marine natural products, terpenes, steroids, alkaloids and carbohydrates. Volume 1 discusses contemporary NMR approaches including optimized and future hardware and experimental approaches to obtain both the highest quality and most appropriate spectral data for analysis. These books, bringing together acknowledged experts, uniquely focus on the combination of experimental approaches and modern hardware and software applied to the structure elucidation of natural products. The volumes will be an essential resource for NMR spectroscopists, natural product chemists and industrial researchers working on natural product analysis or the characterization of impurities and degradation products of pharmaceuticals that can be as scarce as natural product samples.

Case Studies in Superconducting Magnets by Yukikazu Iwasa Pdf

The 2nd edition emphasizes two areas not emphasized in the 1st edition: 1) high-temperature superconductor (HTS) magnets; 2) NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) magnets. Despite nearly 40 years of R and D on superconducting magnet technology, most areas, notably fusion and electric power applications, are still in the R and D stage. One exception is in the area of NMR and MRI. NMR magnets are very popular among chemists, biologists, genome scientists, and most of all, by drug manufacturers for drug discovery and development. MRI and NMR magnets have become the most successful application of superconducting magnet technology and this trend should continue. The 2nd edition will have new materials never treated formally in any other book of this kind. As with the 1st, most subjects will be presented through problem format to educate and train the designer.

Modern NMR Techniques for Synthetic Chemistry by Julie Fisher Pdf

A blend of theory and practical advice, Modern NMR Techniques for Synthetic Chemistry illustrates how NMR spectroscopy can be used to determine the abundance, size, shape, and function of organic molecules. It provides you with a description the NMR technique used (more pictorial than mathematical), indicating the most common pulse sequences, some practical information as appropriate, followed by illustrative examples. This format is followed for each chapter so you can skip the more theoretical details if the practical aspects are what interest you. Following a discussion of basic parameters, the book describes the utility of NMR in detecting and quantifying dynamic processes, with particular emphasis on the usefulness of saturation-transfer (STD) techniques. It details pulsed–field gradient approaches to diffusion measurement, diffusion models, and approaches to ‘inorganic’ nuclei detection, important as many synthetic pathways to new organics involve heavier elements. The text concludes with coverage of applications of NMR to the analysis of complex mixtures, natural products, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids—all areas of activity for researchers working at the chemistry-life sciences interface. The book’s unique format provides some theoretical insight into the NMR technique used, indicating the most common pulse sequences. The book draws upon several NMR methods that are resurging or currently hot in the field and indicates the specific pulse sequence used by various spectrometer manufacturers for each technique. It examines the analysis of complex mixtures, a feature not found in most books on this topic.

High Resolution NMR Spectroscopy: Understanding Molecules and their Electronic Structures by Anonim Pdf

The progress in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy that took place during the last several decades is observed in both experimental capabilities and theoretical approaches to study the spectral parameters. The scope of NMR spectroscopy for studying a large series of molecular problems has notably broadened. However, at the same time, it requires specialists to fully use its potentialities. This is a notorious problem and it is reflected in the current literature where this spectroscopy is typically only used in a routine way. Also, it is seldom used in several disciplines in which it could be a powerful tool to study many problems. The main aim of this book is to try to help reverse these trends. This book is divided in three parts dealing with 1) high-resolution NMR parameters; 2) methods for understanding high-resolution NMR parameters; and 3) some experimental aspects of high-resolution NMR parameters for studying molecular structures. Each part is divided into chapters written by different specialists who use different methodologies in their work. In turn, each chapter is divided into sections. Some features of the different sections are highlighted: it is expected that part of the readership will be interested only in the basic aspects of some chapters, while other readers will be interested in deepening their understanding of the subject dealt with in them. Shows how NMR parameters are useful for structure assignment as well as to obtain insight on electronic structures Emphasis on conceptual aspects Contributions by specialists who use the discussed methodologies in their everyday work

Intrinsically Disordered Proteins Studied by NMR Spectroscopy by Isabella C. Felli,Roberta Pierattelli Pdf

This book discusses the paradigm-shifting phenomenon of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) and hybrid proteins containing ordered domains and functional IDP regions (IDPRs). The properties of IDPs and IDPRs are highly complementary to those deriving from the presence of a unique and well-defined three-dimensional fold. Ignored for a long time in high-resolution studies of proteins, intrinsic protein disorder is now recognized as one of the key features for a large variety of cellular functions, where structural flexibility presents a functional advantage in terms of binding plasticity and promiscuity and this volume explores this exciting new research. Recent progress in the field has radically changed our perspective to study IDPs through NMR: increasingly complex IDPs can now be characterized, a wide range of observables can be determined reporting on the structural and dynamic properties, computational methods to describe the structure and dynamics are in continuous development and IDPs can be studied in environments as complex as whole cells. This volume communicates the new exciting possibilities offered by NMR and presents open questions to foster further developments. Intrinsically Disordered Proteins Studied by NMR Spectroscopy provides a snapshot to researchers entering the field as well as providing a current overview for more experienced scientists in related areas.
