Object-oriented Programming with C++ and OSF/Motif by Douglas A. Young Pdf

Shows programmers how to use C++ and OSF/Motif, a user interface toolkit based on the industry-standard X Window System, to design and implement applications featuring interactive graphical user interfaces. It addresses the surrounding issues of object-oriented design with X and Motif, covering object-oriented programming and design techniques, user interface design methods, emphasizing the thought processes behind each technique and presenting common architectures for object-oriented design. With more and more applications being written for the X Window System (and many in the C++ language), this guide is indispensable for anyone who is interested in gaining proficiency at using C++ and Motif. Practical coverage helps you put the book's techniques into immediate practice. Code examples in the book form a usable toolkit you can use again and again in your daily work. Appropriate for software engineers and programmers working in the UNIX environments.

Object Oriented Programming with C++ and OSF/Motif by Douglas A. Young Pdf

Updated to cover Motif Release 2.0 and X/11 R6, this revised edition shows programmers how to design reusable user interface components and how Motif and C++ can be used together effectively. It goes beyond how to display and manipulate widgets and shows how the object-oriented approach affects an application's design and implementation. In addition to providing X and Motif programmers with a concise introduction to user interface design methods, the book includes code examples that form a useful toolkit.

Object-Oriented Programming for Graphics by Chris Laffra,Edwin H. Blake,Vicki de Mey,Xavier Pintado Pdf

Object-oriented concepts are particularly applicable to computer graphics in its broadest sense, including interaction, image synthesis, animation, and computer-aided design. The use of object-oriented techniques in computer graphics is a widely acknowledged way of dealing with the complexities encountered in graphics systems. But the field of object-oriented graphics (OOG) is still young and full of problems. This book reports on latest advances in this field and discusses how the discipline of OOG is being explored and developed. The topics covered include object-oriented constraint programming, object-oriented modeling of graphics applications to handle complexity, object-oriented techniques for developing user interfaces, and 3D modeling and rendering.

Object-Oriented Graphics by Peter Wisskirchen Pdf

At present, object-oriented programming is emerging from the research labora tories and invading into the field of industrial applications. More and more products have been implemented with the aid of object-oriented programming techniques and tools, usually as extensions of traditional languages in hybrid development systems. Some of the better known examples are OSF-Motif, News, Objective-C on the NeXT computer, the C extension C++, and CLOS an object oriented extension of LISP. All of these developments incorporate interactive graphics. Effective object-oriented systems in combination with a graphics kernel does it mean that the field of computer graphics has now become merely an aspect of the object-oriented world? We do not think so. In spite of interesting individual developments, there are still no sound object-oriented graphics sys tems available. If it is desired to develop a complex graphics application embed ded in a window-oriented system then it is still necessary to work with elemen tary tools. What is to be displayed and interactively modified inside a window must be specified with a set of graphics primitives at a low level, or has to be written with a standardized graphics kernel system such as GKS or PHIGS, i. e. , by kernels specified and implemented in a non-object-oriented style. With the terms GKS and PHIGS we enter the world of international graphics standards. GKS and PHIGS constitute systems, not mere collections of graphics primitives.

Using Motif with C++ by Daniel Bernstein Pdf

As more and more professionals in the software industry gain experience in both object-oriented (OO) development and the graphical user interface (GUI), it has become clear that not only do GUI libraries have a number of advantages over other kinds of libraries, but they are also fun to work with! Using Motif with C++ provides step-by-step instructions on how to create a library for programming GUIs in the C++ programming language. Written for beginning or experienced Motif programmers, this book serves both as a tutorial for writing a portable Motif-based interface library in C++ and as a reference for enhancing and maintaining such software. This essential book introduces readers to the fundamental concepts required to use the Motif C language interface including the even driven input model, callbacks, event handlers, and widgets.

Geographical Information by Massimo Rumor,R. McMillan,Henk F. L. Ottens Pdf

Geographical Information is defined as the collection of data on real virtual objects which have a fixed place above, on, in or beneath the surface of the earth. Geographical information involves all information on buildings, roads, pipelines, cabling, etc. as well as boundaries, air corridors, topography and postcode areas, the information can be administrative and geometric. Changes in social and economic interests have caused the emphasis to shift over the years. Virtual objects (areas, postcode areas) in particular have attracted more interest in recent years. This is closely related to the increased desirability of analysing and presenting policy information within certain spatial limits, in which the introduction of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and systems like GIS has played a significant role. Geographical Information cannot be regarded as the informational side of one policy area. Geographical information is not only necessary for the layout and management of space, but also for such things as taxation, environmental policy, water management, maintenance and protection of pipeline systems and making maps. The volumes address the latest developments with respect to technological innovation, scientific progress and advanced professional application in the field of geographical information. In addition, articles dealing with the state of the art and coming innovations with respect to major fields of GI research and application are included. The books cover the following areas of specific interest topics with the current scope of geographical information research: geographical information technolgy; geographical information and environment; geographical information planning; geographical information in urban and regional government; geographical information inutilities, telecom and private enterprise; geographical information education and awareness; geographical information in Spain.

Computers As Assistants by Peter Hoschka Pdf

Computer systems based on the notion of the computer as assistant have recently become the focus of intense interest. The expanding role of the computer in everyday life and the growing number of untrained users make it necessary to think about new ways of dividing labor between humans and machines. Future systems must take on more tasks and perform them more competently and autonomously than existing systems. If they are to be adequately flexible and responsive to complexity, they cannot automate their performance completely. The aim of designers should be to create computer systems with capabilities similar to those of good assistants in the real world. Effective assistance has many characteristics. An assistant is expected to be competent in some domains of expertise, to know the limits of his/her knowledge, to be able to process inexact instructions from clients, to adjust to and learn from them, to explain his/her behavior and suggestions, and to support clients in communication and cooperation with other people. This book believes that such capabilities can be built into computer systems. To that end, the chapter contributors discuss the concepts and methods--particularly from the fields of artificial intelligence and computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW)--that they have drawn from to develop successful system prototypes. They present several of these prototypes including assistants for graphics design, knowledge discovery in data bases, coordination support, organizational memory, user interface design, and knowledge base construction. As such, this volume helps map out the future for all those involved in computer systems design.
