Main-Group Metal Organometallics in Organic Synthesis by A. McKillop Pdf

The individual chapters in this volume cover the scope and impact of main group organometallic compounds and reagents on organic synthesis during the last ten to fifteen years. In a number of chapters, topics are dealt with in detail that either were not covered at all in COMC (eg selenium, tellurium) or were given scant attention (eg oxymercuration, organoantimony compounds). Certain topics, like directed metallation and LiKOR bases have only achieved prominence in synthesis in the last ten years, and are now reviewed by leading experts.

Organometallics for Green Catalysis by Pierre H. Dixneuf,Jean-François Soulé Pdf

This volume presents the latest developments in the use of organometallic catalysis for the formation of bulk chemicals and the production of energy, via green processes including efficient utilization of waste feedstocks from industry. The chemistry of carbon dioxide relating to its hydrogenation into methanol –an eco-friendly energy storage strategy– and its uses as C1 synthon for the formation of important building-blocks for fine chemicals industry are covered. Catalytic hydrogenations of various functional groups and hydrogen transfer reactions including the use of first row metal catalysts are presented as well as the conversion of alcohols to carboxylates via hydrogen transfer with a zero-waste strategy using water. Transformation of renewable or bio-based raw materials is surveyed through alkene metathesis and C–O bond activations and functionalizations. A green aspect for selective formation of C-C, C-O and C-N bonds involves direct regioselective C–H bond activations and functionalizations. These transformations can now be promoted under mild reaction conditions due to the use photoredox catalyts. C–H bond oxidation using visible light leads mainly to the formation of C–O and C–N bonds, whereas cross-coupled C–C bonds can be formed through the radical additions on (hetero) arenes using photoredox assisted mechanism.

Organometallics in Process Chemistry by Ahmed F. Abdel-Magid Pdf

The design of efficient syntheses of medicinal agents is one of the prime goals of the process chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. The expanding list of metal-mediated reactions has had a major impact on this endeavor over the last two decades. This volume will highlight some of the areas of organometallic chemistry that have played a particularly important role in development. The chapters are written by chemists who work in the process groups of major pharmaceutical companies and fine chemical manufacturers. Having demonstrated the power of organometallics in their processes the authors herein expand upon their experiences with examples from the literature as reported by process groups within the industry. The chapters are organized either by the application of a particular metal or reaction class. Removal of the residual metal(s) from the isolated active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) is key to the release of the material for human consumption, and hence, is reviewed here as well. This volume of Topics in Organometallic Chemistry is presented to offer a representative cross section of organometallic applications in the pharmaceutical industry as well as to give an appreciation for the creativity possible in process chemistry.

Organometallic Chemistry by E W Abel Pdf

Organometallic chemistry is an interdisciplinary science which continues to grow at a rapid pace. Although there is continued interest in synthetic and structural studies the last decade has seen a growing interest in the potential of organometallic chemistry to provide answers to problems in catalysis synthetic organic chemistry and also in the development of new materials. This Specialist Periodical Report aims to reflect these current interests reviewing progress in theoretical organometallic chemistry, main group chemistry, the lanthanides and all aspects of transition metal chemistry. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

The Organometallic Chemistry of N-heterocyclic Carbenes by Han Vinh Huynh Pdf

The Organometallic Chemistry of N-heterocyclic Carbenes describes various aspects of N-heterocyclic Carbenes (NHCs) and their transition metal complexes at an entry level suitable for advanced undergraduate students and above. The book starts with a historical overview on the quest for carbenes and their complexes. Subsequently, unique properties, reactivities and nomenclature of the four classical NHCs derived from imidazoline, imidazole, benzimidazole and 1,2,4-triazole are elaborated. General and historically relevant synthetic aspects for NHCs, their precursors and complexes are then explained. The book continues with coverage on the preparation and characteristics of selected NHC complexes containing the most common metals in this area, i.e. Ni, Pd, Pt, Ag, Cu, Au, Ru, Rh and Ir. The book concludes with an overview and outlook on the development of various non-classical NHCs beyond the four classical types. Topics covered include: Stabilization, dimerization and decomposition of NHCs Stereoelectronic properties of NHCs and their evaluation Diversity of NHCs Isomers of NHC complexes and their identification NMR spectroscopic signatures of NHC complexes normal, abnormal and mesoionic NHCs The Organometallic Chemistry of N-heterocyclic Carbenes is an essential resource for all students and researchers interested in this increasingly important and popular field of research.

This widely acclaimed serial contains authoritative reviews that address all aspects of organometallic chemistry, a field which has expanded enormously since the publication of Volume 1 in 1964. Almost all branches of chemistry and material science now interface with organometallic chemistry - the study of compounds containing carbon-metal bonds. Organometallic compounds range from species which are so reactive that they only have a transient existence at ambient temperatures to species which are thermally very stable. Organometallics are used extensively in the synthesis of useful compounds on both large and small scales. Industrial processes involving plastics, polymers, electronic materials, and pharmaceuticals all depend on advancesments in organometallic chemistry. In basic research, Organometallics have contributed inter alia to metal cluster chemistry, surface chemistry, the stablilization of highly reactive species by metal coordination, chiral synthesis, the formulation of multiple bonds between carbon and the other elements and between the elements themselves. Advances in Organometallic Chemistry is an essential reference work for the academic and industrial chemist and will provide up-to-date material at the cutting edge of chemistry research.
