Peep Show for Children Only by Dave Warwak Pdf

"Peep Show For Children Only" exposes real life behind the scenes dramas documenting the struggle to maintain the status quo. The author, Dave Warwak chronicles his trials and pursuits to teach humane education to his middle school art students against his principal's orders. Complete with actual documentation of State of Illinois courtroom proceedings, Warwak presents compelling arguments about the human condition as he draws open the curtain hiding society's ills. Just as Scopes changed the landscape of education with his "Monkey Trials" some 80 years ago, Warwak has come forward in present day with striking revelations about our current failing educational system and offers clear no-nonsense solutions that chill one to the bone. Playing with the Book by Hannah Field Pdf

A beautifully illustrated exploration of how Victorian novelty picture books reshape the ways children read and interact with texts The Victorian era saw an explosion of novelty picture books with flaps to lift and tabs to pull, pages that could fold out, pop-up scenes, and even mechanical toys mounted on pages. Analyzing books for young children published between 1835 and 1914, Playing with the Book studies how these elaborately designed works raise questions not just about what books should look like but also about what reading is, particularly in relation to children’s literature and child readers. Novelty books promised (or threatened) to make reading a physical as well as intellectual activity, requiring the child to pull a tab or lift a flap to continue the story. These books changed the relationship between pictures, words, and format in both productive and troubling ways. Hannah Field considers these aspects of children’s reading through case studies of different formats of novelty and movable books and intensive examination of editions that have survived from the nineteenth century. She discovers that children ripped, tore, and colored in their novelty books—despite these books’ explicit instructions against such behaviors. Richly illustrated with images of these ingenious constructions, Playing with the Book argues that novelty books construct a process of reading that involves touch as well as sight, thus reconfiguring our understanding of the phenomenology of reading.

Ensuring Every Child Matters by Gianna Knowles Pdf

In today's climate of multi-professional working, this book examines how children from the ages of 3 to 11 are educated, in the educational and social context of the Every Child Matters (ECM) agenda. There are chapters dedicated to the five outcomes of Every Child Matters (which are: being healthy; staying safe; enjoying and achieving; making a positive contribution; achieving economic wellbeing), as well as comprehensive guidance on how to ensure the ECM standards are met. However, this book also looks at the broader scope of how children learn in early years settings and primary schools, and is written at a level that enables the reader to develop their own knowledge and understanding. Issues discussed include: - social justice; - diversity and inclusion; - the child in society; - working with families. Case studies are provided in each chapter, along with activities, suggestions for further reading and useful websites. Suitable for Childhood Studies and Education Studies courses, and for teaching assistants studying for a Foundation Degree or Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status, the content is equally relevant for teacher-training courses and practising teachers. Gianna Knowles is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Chichester.
