Poetry and Personality by Steven Jay Van Zoeren Pdf

This is a history of the hermeneutics of China's earliest classic, the Book of Odes, which was probably compiled about the 6th century BC. Neither a reading of the Odes as such, nor yet a history of their interpretation, this study attempts rather to trace the principles that guided the interpretation of the Odes over some two thousand years of Chinese history. The book begins by tracing the rise and development in China of the disposition to treat certain 'classical' texts as the ultimate repositories of the culture's values and norms, a disposition that was to shape the political, social, and cultural institutions of traditional China. A notable example was the examination system, which tested candidates for state office on their knowledge of the canon, in the process making questions concerning the interpretation of the canon prominent in public as well as in private life. The author then describes the emergence of the distinctive and influential hermeneutic associated with the Odes.

Shape Up Your Personality by Roy Paul Pdf

With our world so rapidly changing and expanding in technology, we need to renew our adherence to the lofty human principles which are our birthright, and which would allow us to live in happiness and prosperity with all other human beings in a just and peaceful world. This collection of poetry is the author’s contribution to such a revival, and will supplement other worthy efforts towards this objective. It is presented to parents, educators and students of Psychological Development, with the belief that poetry has the advantage over the normal prose essays of inspiring as well as edifying. It was originally designed as a gift to his relatives and close friends with the title: Move Closer to Heaven in 2011, indicating that the poems come straight from the heart, and should affect readers likewise.

BPD, the Other Side of Me by Rae Baker Pdf

This book is full of poetry relating to the mental illness Borderline personality disorder (BPD). Such education and awareness is still needed. It is such a rollercoaster and difficult to understand. My hope is this connects to those with the same disorder, and touches the ones that do not, that they may feel or understand BPD a little more.

The Wisdom of Wall by Ieden Wall Pdf

Find out for yourself why THE WISDOM OF WALL has been called 'a must-buy for lovers of lyrical poetry and conquistadors of the truth.' In The Wisdom of Wall, the Toronto-born writer storms out of the gate with his first published work of poetry. Wall engages a wide range of topics in his work: Human existence, social and political unrest, love, romance, spirituality, religion and much more. He explores the world and the human condition with a sharp wit, an acute sense of irony and a mysterious sixth sense. In The Wisdom of Wall, we find a complex mind in search for identity, lost memories, purpose and transcendence amid a dizzying gust of existential curiosity. Lyrical masterpieces like, Big Break, On the Edge of Here, The Good Guys, One Holy Mess, An Inconvenient Truth, The Way You Deserve and A Better Road invite the reader deep into the psyche of a soul searching poet, as he rides the fine edge of utter despair and eternal hope. Wall's raw, confessional style, gloomy depictions, emotional immediacy and understated profundity, make him one of Canada's most compelling lyrical poets. Dubbed "the young sage" by various publishers he has worked for, Wall writes with a maturity well beyond his years. In Part 2 of the book, referred to as Pearls, Wall graciously hands the reader the keys to his life-long diary of wisdom. This section is packed with indispensable nuggets of truth, carefully distilled through the author's inimitable breadth. In this section of the book, the reader is sure to find profound insight into life, love and the pursuit of happiness. Quotes from Media Reviews: "The Wisdom of Wall bespeaks the honest and wise heart of brilliant Canadian poet." --Professor Alex S. Kipplin, University of Toronto "A literary treasure for truth-seekers and lovers of charming and poignant lyrics " --CBC Journalist, Ralph Benmergui "Wall does something that few poets have been able to do in Canada. He writes with the bite of an ironic comedian and the grace of a master lyricist." --Entertainment Media Critic, Mark Breslin

Poems of Personality (Classic Reprint) by Reginald C. Robbins Pdf

Excerpt from Poems of Personality Homer The mighty morning wakes! Earth, heaven and ocean Leap to the touch of sweet, swift-footed light Adown yon orient atmosphere dawn-dancing, Quick-shafted from the Asian mountain-ridge Distant upon the lordly continent! And this green isle with cliffs surf-circled standeth, A gem amid the many-murmuring waters, White-ring'd with the wine-wonder of the sea. And ever 'twixt mine isle and that far shore The shimmering wind-rows of the wave advancing Come gleaming onward at a wide approach, Feeding the eye of the mind with impulse urgent (Out of the new-born day and fountain'd Ida, Out of the swift-oncoming air and ocean Or hither-streaming, sweet, quick-footed light) To sing to-day once more, as many a day I sang; as none before mine hour have sung-it In palace or in herdsman's hut, in ship On ocean beaten or the rocky place Of some high altar mountainward; to sing The strife of men and gods (sith gods impel About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Hatred of Poetry by Ben Lerner Pdf

No art has been denounced as often as poetry. It's even bemoaned by poets: "I, too, dislike it," wrote Marianne Moore. "Many more people agree they hate poetry," Ben Lerner writes, "than can agree what poetry is. I, too, dislike it and have largely organized my life around it and do not experience that as a contradiction because poetry and the hatred of poetry are inextricable in ways it is my purpose to explore." In this inventive and lucid essay, Lerner takes the hatred of poetry as the starting point of his defense of the art. He examines poetry's greatest haters (beginning with Plato's famous claim that an ideal city had no place for poets, who would only corrupt and mislead the young) and both its greatest and worst practitioners, providing inspired close readings of Keats, Dickinson, McGonagall, Whitman, and others. Throughout, he attempts to explain the noble failure at the heart of every truly great and truly horrible poem: the impulse to launch the experience of an individual into a timeless communal existence. In The Hatred of Poetry, Lerner has crafted an entertaining, personal, and entirely original examination of a vocation no less essential for being impossible.

Because the Sun by Sarah Burgoyne Pdf

Camus’s Meursault and Thelma and Louise meet up under the blazing sun. Vexed by the ‘unremarkable star’ that ‘presses’ Camus’s Meursault to commit murder, Because the Sun considers the blazing sun as a material symbol of ambient violence – violence absorbed like heat and fired at the nearest victim. Likewise, as a friendship between women confronts gendered aggression in Thelma and Louise, the sun becomes the repository of pain, the high noon that pushes us through desert after desert. Because the Sun’s pastiche of voices embodies both stylistic and formal relentlessness by teasing out tonalities that blend and merge into each other, generating a blinding effect, like looking into the sun. “Breathless and death defying, the poems in Because the Sun are high-wire work. They sway above us in a blazing light of Burgoyne’s making. It is so rare that a book of poems is both a tuning fork for our minds as well as a balm for our bodies. But that is exactly what happens page after page in this blazing book.” —Michael Dickman, author of Days & Days “This beautiful work wraps Camus’s The Stranger in a poetics concerning erasure/+ hope. Out of the titular Sun’s burning punctum burst telling shards of what is erased by Camus’s remarkable construction of whiteness in-the-masculine: the dead ‘Arab,’ the female body’s interminable violations – but also its warming, even blinding capacity for consequential pleasures.” —Gail Scott, author of Heroine “Sarah Burgoyne begins with the sun and ends with flowers. In between is a complicated exploration of what it means to exist within a tradition that is Camus, Rimbaud, Blake. Taking her cue from Sara Ahmed, she notices how hard it is to challenge this tradition and yet that it matters to do it anyway.” —Juliana Spahr, author of That Winter the Wolf Came

Beautiful & Pointless by David Orr Pdf
