Risk Analysis for the Digital Age by Anton Gerunov Pdf

This book presents a foray into the fascinating process of risk management, beginning from classical methods and approaches to understanding risk all the way into cutting-age thinking. Risk management by necessity must lie at the heart of governing our ever more complex digital societies. New phenomena and activities necessitate a new look at how individuals, firms, and states manage the uncertainty they must operate in. Initial chapters provide an introduction to traditional methods and show how they can be built upon to better understand the workings of the modern economy. Later chapters review digital activities and assets like cryptocurrencies showing how such emergent risks can be conceptualized better. Network theory figures prominently and the book demonstrates how it can be used to gauge the risk in the digital sectors of the economy. Predicting the unpredictable black swan events is also discussed in view of a wider adoption of economic simulations. The journey concludes by looking at how individuals perceive risk and make decisions as they operate in a virtual social network. This book interests the academic audience, but it also features insights and novel research results that are relevant for practitioners and policymakers. .

Capital Flow Management Measures in the Digital Age by Mr. Dong He,Annamaria Kokenyne,Xavier Lavayssière,Ms. Inutu Lukonga,Nadine Schwarz,Nobuyasu Sugimoto,Jeanne Verrier Pdf

Capital flow management measures (CFMs) can be part of the broader policy toolkit to help countries reap the benefits of capital flows while managing the associated risks. Their implementation typically requires that financial intermediaries verify the nature of transactions and the identities of transacting parties but is facing the rising challenge of crypto assets. Indeed, crypto assets have become a significant instrument for payments and speculative investments in some countries. They can be traded pseudonymously and held without identification of the residency of the asset holder. Many crypto service providers operate across borders, making supervision and enforcement by national authorities more difficult. The challenges posed by the attributes of crypto assets are compounded by gaps in the legal and regulatory frameworks. This paper aims to discuss how crypto assets could impact the effectiveness of CFMs from a structural and longer-term perspective. To preserve the effectiveness of CFMs against crypto-related challenges, policymakers need to consider a multifaceted strategy whose essential elements include clarifying the legal status of crypto assets and ensuring that CFM laws and regulations cover them; devising a comprehensive, consistent, and coordinated regulatory approach to crypto assets and applying it effectively to CFMs; establishing international collaborative arrangements for supervision of crypto assets; addressing data gaps and leveraging technology (regtech and suptech) to create anomaly-detection models and red-flag indicators that will allow for timely risk monitoring and CFM implementation.

Information Security and Auditing in the Digital Age by Amjad Umar Pdf

This book provides a recent and relevant coverage based on a systematic approach. Especially suitable for practitioners and managers, the book has also been classroom tested in IS/IT courses on security. It presents a systematic approach to build total systems solutions that combine policies, procedures, risk analysis, threat assessment through attack trees, honeypots, audits, and commercially available security packages to secure the modern IT assets (applications, databases, hosts, middleware services and platforms) as well as the paths (the wireless plus wired network) to these assets. After covering the security management and technology principles, the book shows how these principles can be used to protect the digital enterprise assets. The emphasis is on modern issues such as e-commerce, e-business and mobile application security; wireless security that includes security of Wi-Fi LANs, cellular networks, satellites, wireless home networks, wireless middleware, and mobile application servers; semantic Web security with a discussion of XML security; Web Services security, SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language)and .NET security; integration of control and audit concepts in establishing a secure environment. Numerous real-life examples and a single case study that is developed throughout the book highlight a case-oriented approach. Complete instructor materials (PowerPoint slides, course outline, project assignments) to support an academic or industrial course are provided. This proceedings book presents the outcomes of the VII International Scientific Conference “Digital Transformation of the Economy: Challenges, Trends, New Opportunities”, which took place in Samara, Russian Federation, on April 26–27, 2019. Organized by the Samara State University of Economics, the conference chiefly focused on digital economy issues, such as theoretical preconditions for the development of economic systems in the digital age and specific practical issues related to real-world business practice. Consisting of six chapters corresponding to the thematic areas of the conference, and written by scientists and practitioners from different regions of Russia, Kazakhstan, the Czech Republic and Germany, the book offers answers to the most pressing questions for today’s business community: - How is our world changing under the influence of digital technology? - Is sustainable economic development a myth or reality in the context of digitalization? - What threats and opportunities does digitalization bring? - What are realities and prospects of digitalization in the context of business practice? - How do we create a digital infrastructure for the economy? - How should the legal environment of the economy be transformed in the context of digitalization? The conclusions and recommendations presented are not recipes for solving the existing economic problems, but instead are intended for use in further research on transformation processes in the economy and in the development of state economic policies in various countries and regions.

International Relations and Security in the Digital Age by Johan Eriksson,Giampiero Giacomello Pdf

This book examines the impact of the information revolution on international and domestic security, attempting to remedy both the lack of theoretically informed analysis of information security and the US-centric tendency in the existing literature. International Relations and Security in the Digital Age covers a range of topics, including: critical infrastructure protection, privacy issues, international cooperation, cyber terrorism, and security policy. It aims to analyze the impact of the information revolution on international and domestic security; examine what existing international relations theories can say about this challenge; and discuss how international relations theory can be developed to better meet this challenge. The analysis suggests that Liberalism’s focus on pluralism, interdependence and globalization, Constructivism’s emphasis on language, symbols and images (including ‘virtuality’), and some elements of Realist strategic studies (on the specific topic of information warfare) contribute to a better understanding of digital age security. This book will be of interest to students of security studies, globalization, international relations, and politics and technology.
