Say you’ll Wait for Me, A Memoir by Samantha Rosalia Pdf

Being the owner of vast stretches of land in certain areas of Pakistan meant you could marry the most beautiful girl of any nearby village, a devout Muslim woman from an affluent family born of a traditional Hindu caste and the eldest daughter of a neighboring landlord. Looking back in writing this now, I think about all the people who were supposed to care about me who had bad intentions related to why they claimed to welcome me as an American, never bothering to fill me in as to the reasons why I traveled to Pakistan. I found myself in a strange new land left to raise Sameer and Asad without a father. Thrust into a world of strangers disguised as well-meaning relatives extending a hand to greet me as a foreigner from the United States, I found myself standing in the middle of a deserted field trying not to see Daniyal in new relatives offering flowers and Muslim prayers of protection in Urdu. I was no longer called by my birth name Samantha but morphed into a Pakistani woman known only by my Muslim name, Kasra Say You’ll Wait for Me is my first book based on a true- to life experience of meeting and marrying an immigrant from a rural village area of Ganish, Pakistan. As I struggle to fit in with a large, eccentric joint family as a foreigner from Louisiana who knows next to nothing about Pakistani customs, haphazard attempts at blending in with my Muslim family turn into a series of cultural blunders and missteps. Secretive in-laws appear as well-meaning family members offering Muslim prayers, revealing a series of family betrayals and secrets surrounding an ongoing legal case in Karachi, Pakistan involving the acquisition of ancestral property. A territorial dispute in Karachi, Pakistan spirals out of control in the form of an ongoing family feud. What remains of my time in a rural village area of Ganish is a true story comprised of people who lied to me, and a broken promise of a happy life in a foreign country that existed in a past memory. The beginning of our financial issues began more than five years ago over a valuable piece of property in Karachi. The most tragic part of my real-life experience about marrying a Pakistani wasn't that years later I had come to find out my immigrant husband's ancestral land had been stolen from him and he could no longer return to his birth country. I prayed for the land to be returned to its rightful owner. Say You’ll Wait for Me

Wait for Me! by Deborah Devonshire Pdf

Deborah Devonshire is a natural writer with a knack for the telling phrase and for hitting the nail on the head. She tells the story of her upbringing, lovingly and wittily describing her parents (so memorably fictionalised by her sister Nancy); she talks candidly about her brother and sisters, and their politics (while not being at all political herself), finally setting the record straight. Throughout the book she writes brilliantly about the country and her deep attachment to it and those who live and work in it. As Duchess of Devonshire, Debo played an active role in restoring and overseeing the day-to-day running of the family houses and gardens, and in developing commercial enterprises at Chatsworth. She tells poignantly of the deaths of three of her children, as well as her husband's battle with alcohol addiction. Wait For Me is enthralling and a total joy, full of the author's sympathetic wit (which she is not afraid to use on herself).

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah Pdf

From the New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah comes a powerful novel of love, loss, and the magic of friendship. . . . now a #1 Netflix series! In the turbulent summer of 1974, Kate Mularkey has accepted her place at the bottom of the eighth-grade social food chain. Then, to her amazement, the "coolest girl in the world" moves in across the street and wants to be her friend. Tully Hart seems to have it all---beauty, brains, ambition. On the surface they are as opposite as two people can be: Kate, doomed to be forever uncool, with a loving family who mortifies her at every turn. Tully, steeped in glamour and mystery, but with a secret that is destroying her. They make a pact to be best friends forever; by summer's end they've become TullyandKate. Inseparable. So begins Kristin Hannah's magnificent new novel. Spanning more than three decades and playing out across the ever-changing face of the Pacific Northwest, Firefly Lane is the poignant, powerful story of two women and the friendship that becomes the bulkhead of their lives. From the beginning, Tully is desperate to prove her worth to the world. Abandoned by her mother at an early age, she longs to be loved unconditionally. In the glittering, big-hair era of the eighties, she looks to men to fill the void in her soul. But in the buttoned-down nineties, it is television news that captivates her. She will follow her own blind ambition to New York and around the globe, finding fame and success . . . and loneliness. Kate knows early on that her life will be nothing special. Throughout college, she pretends to be driven by a need for success, but all she really wants is to fall in love and have children and live an ordinary life. In her own quiet way, Kate is as driven as Tully. What she doesn't know is how being a wife and mother will change her . . . how she'll lose sight of who she once was, and what she once wanted. And how much she'll envy her famous best friend. . . . For thirty years, Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship---jealousy, anger, hurt, resentment. They think they've survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart . . . and puts their courage and friendship to the ultimate test. Firefly Lane is for anyone who ever drank Boone's Farm apple wine while listening to Abba or Fleetwood Mac. More than a coming-of-age novel, it's the story of a generation of women who were both blessed and cursed by choices. It's about promises and secrets and betrayals. And ultimately, about the one person who really, truly knows you---and knows what has the power to hurt you . . . and heal you. Firefly Lane is a story you'll never forget . . . one you'll want to pass on to your best friend.

Little Me by Matt Lucas Pdf

The hilarious, heart-warming and tear-jerking memoir from one of Britain's best-loved comedians and actors, Matt Lucas. Hello there. Welcome to my autobiography. Throughout this book I talk about my life and work, including Little Britain, Come Fly With Me, Bridesmaids, Les Miserables, Alice In Wonderland and, of course, Shooting Stars. The thing is, this is a bit different to most memoirs you may have read, because it comes in the form of an A-Z. For instance, B is for Baldy! - which is what people used to shout at me in the playground (not much fun), G is for Gay (because I'm an actual real life gay) and T is for the TARDIS (because I'm a companion in Doctor Who now). You get the sort of thing. Anyway I hope you buy it at least twice. Thank you.
