Proceedings by Anonim Pdf
The 26 papers in these proceedings are divided into five sections. The first two sections are an introduction and a plenary session that introduce the principles and role the shrub life-form in the High Plains, including the changing dynamics of shrublands and grasslands during the last four plus centuries. The remaining three sections are devoted to: fire, both prescribed fire and wildfire, in shrublands and grassland-shrubland interfaces; water and ecophysiology shrubland ecosystems; and the ecology and population biology of several shrub species.

Big Sagebrush by Bruce Leigh Welch Pdf
Pioneers traveling along the Oregon Trail from western Nebraska, through Wyoming and southern Idaho and into eastern Oregon, referred to their travel as an 800 mile journey through a sea of sagebrush, mainly big sagebrush ( Artemisia tridentata). Today approximately 50 percent of the sagebrush sea has given way to agriculture, cities and towns, and other human developments. What remains is further fragmented by range management practices, creeping expansion of woodlands, alien weed species, and the historic view that big sagebrush is a worthless plant. Two ideas are promoted in this report: (1) big sagebrush is a nursing mother to a host of organisms that range from microscopic fungi to large mammals, and (2) many range management practices applied to big sagebrush ecosystems are not science based.

Remote Sensing for Natural Resources Management & Monitoring by Mahesh Gaur,C.B. Pandey,R.K. Goyal Pdf
The book attempts to match user need to the level of technology required for management, planning and monitoring of natural resources. It provides clear guidance on the reliability, accuracy and cost of applications. Editors believe that this endeavour shall provide a valuable scientific basis to students and researchers to address the future challenges in natural resources monitoring and management. Accurate inventory, assessment and periodic monitoring of resources will enable the policy makers to keep an eye on optimal utilization of resources and development process to take timely interventions. We further hope this book will be a valuable reference and provide practical guidance for all who work towards the goal of the sustainable and judicious use of resources.

Wildlife Science by Timothy E. Fulbright,David G. Hewitt Pdf
Consciously or not, wildlife managers generally act from a theoretical basis, although they may not be fully versed in the details or ramifications of that theory. In practice, the predictions of the practitioners sometimes prove more accurate than those of the theoreticians. Practitioners and theoreticians need to work together, but this proves di

Proceedings, Shrubland Ecosystem Dynamics in a Changing Environment by Jerry R. Barrow Pdf
This proceedings contains 50 papers including an overview of shrubland ecosystem dynamics in a changing environment and several papers each on vegetation dynamics, management concerns and options, and plant ecophysiology as well as an account of a Jornada Basin field trip. Contributions emphasize the impact of changing environmental conditions on vegetative composition especially in the Jornada Basin and Chihuahuan Desert but also in other parts of western North America and the world.

Mesquite by Rodney W. Bovey Pdf
Global problem or treasure? This question has accompanied the widespread and controversial mesquite tree wherever it grows and is studied around the world. In this comprehensive reference to the genus Prosopis, rangeland scientist Rodney Bovey has gathered and synthesized years of research in a book that reflects our current state of knowledge about the biology, morphology, and management of mesquite. Environmentally adaptive, the mesquite is considered by many to be an invasive or a pest species, and Bovey addresses the concerns about mesquite encroachment worldwide. But he also explains its ecological importance in the prevention of erosion and desertification and in providing food and habitat for wildlife. In addition, Bovey traces the uses of mesquite by humans and discusses the economics of growing and harvesting mesquite. A handy guide to the names, locations, distributions, habitat, structure, and uses of several species of mesquite is included in this benchmark publication for ecologists, range managers, biologists, landowners, and students of agriculture and ecosystem science.

Arbuscular Mycorrhizas: Physiology and Function by Hinanit Koltai,Yoram Kapulnik Pdf
In the years since the first edition of “Arbuscular Mycorrhizas: Physiology and Function” was published, an exceptional proliferation of interest in mycorrhizal biology has developed. This has been associated with advances in different research disciplines such as genetics, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and physiology, advances which have generated better insight into topics of mycorrhizal biology, including the mechanisms of host-mycorrhiza interactions pre- and post-penetration, the influence of the symbiosis on the host and its surroundings, and the evolution and diversity of mycorrhization. It therefore became necessary to both update and expand the book's coverage in this, its second edition.
