Guardian Angel by Arnold Spero Bisase Pdf

Guardian Angel the Book is like an Odyssey; a journey that questions and challenges the ethos of man through the ages; especially in East Africa, irrespective of time, site or circumstance. The author has consistently refused to veer from this contention; however unpalatable some of the home-truths that surfaces along the way; for this is not a fictional novel, but the living experiences of a suffering people through time. Many of the characters he faced in his battle for survival, were men that had no good reason to stray from the honourable path to Independence, and the true freedoms of their people. The Manifestos were believable and opportunities to implement them in their entirety were not denied them. They even enjoyed hero status as they were the first; they were the undisputed bearers of the flags of freedom. But sadly, they and they alone must chose to betray this goodwill; they and they alone must have succumbed to the ills of power. Guardian Angel - The Book, so aptly lays bare their hypocrisy and betrayal, while confirming the bounteous beauty of life

Patrons, Clients, and Empire by Colin Newbury Pdf

Patrons, Clients, and Empire challenges the stereotypes of despotic imperial power in Asian, African, and Pacific colonies by analysing the relationship between rulers and rulers on both sides of the imperial equation. It seeks an answer to the question: how were European officials able to govern so many societies for so long? Rejecting the usual explanations of 'collaboration' and indirect rule', this study looks to pre-imperial structures in the indigenous hierarchies which supplied patrimonial models of chieftaincy for territorial government. For nawabs, chiefs, emirs, sultans, and their officials and followers there were dynastic and economic advantages in accepting the terms of European over-rule, as well as the threat of deposition. For European officials, few in numbers and with limited military and financial resources, there were ready-made systems of local government that could be co-opted, reformed, or left relatively untouched. Both sides played politics as patrons and clients within a dual system of administration based on a mixture of force and self-interest. Surveying a wide variety of cases and employing a patron-client model, this study embraces pre-colonial, colonial, and post-colonial politics in new states. It covers the chronology of early European dependency on local rulers; the reasons for reversal of status among chiefs and administrators; the longer period of political bargaining over access to local resources in terms of land, labour, and taxes; and the ultimate fate of indigenous rulers in the period of party politics leading to independence.

Africa's Turmoil, Miseries and Poverty by Mica Kiribedda Pdf

The time of the truth has finally come for one, cannot suppress the truth forever. It is about the unspoken implications of Africa’s totalitarian regimes, under the umbrella of colonial imperialists, with their wicked stooge leaders, with insatiable appetite for power rage to crush people’s freedom now as it has ever been. Those who dare resist Colonial oppression, they paid the price. People all over, have endured relentless brutality conspired by wicked politicians, whose occupations and purpose is to misuse power to justify their lust for vengeance. Nobody can escape their wrath, as the seed of treachery and political contamination of mind and soul, was apparent from day one Africa was invaded by the West. Resisting imperialism could be incredibly painful, devastating and catastrophic, and could wreak lives today, as it has ever been. Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of Zaire, was first victim of resisting fascism and his penalty was death in 1961. Steve Biko, the NAC leader of S.Africa, paid ultimate price for fighting apartheid, while N. Mandela and Mzee Kenyatta of Kenya, escaped narrowly with detention. Kings, Mwanga and Mutesa of Buganda and Dr.Kwame Nkruma of Ghana, also paid ultimate price for resisting fascism of the Colonial Imperialism.

Historical Dictionary of Uganda by Joseph Kasule Pdf

Uganda is one of the most fascinating countries in Africa. Situated in the middle of the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa, it is home to diverse flora and fauna. Little wonder Winston Churchill famously named it “the Pearl of Africa”. Neighbored by South Sudan, DRC, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, Uganda claims the source of the River Nile and a larger share of Victoria, Africa’s largest lake. Uganda’s capital, Kampala is famous for hosting many international conferences and summits including the 2007 Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting. Uganda is witnessing rapid development, overseen by Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni who has served as president since 1986, making him the longest serving leader in Uganda. Museveni came to power on the backdrop of a 5-year guerilla struggle that toppled the regimes of Milton Obote and the military junta of Tito Okello Lutwa. Historical Dictionary of Uganda, Second Edition, covers the history of Uganda using a chronology, an introductory essay, appendixes, and a bibliography. The dictionary section covers many entries on politics, economy, foreign affairs, religion, society, culture, and important personalities. The book provides a quick access for researchers, students, tourists, and anyone interesting in learning about Uganda.

Politics and the Military in Uganda, 1890–1985 by Amii Omara-Otunnu Pdf

How was the military dictatorship of Idi Amin possible? Was it inevitable? The author seeks the answers to these questions in the political and military history of Uganda from colonial times and finally considers the regimes which have followed Amin's dictatorship in Uganda, exploring the political role of the army after it has taken power. This case study of Uganda contains valuable insights into civil-military relations elsewhere in sub-Saharan Africa.

Learning to make change by Paul Kibwika Pdf

Universities represent the highest level of education, yet they are notoriously slow in responding to a rapidly changing world. Deeply entrenched elitism and routines, a continued emphasis on reproductive learning, and the continued dominance of disciplinary thinking, have, in many instances, created bastions of educational conservatism, unable to contribute meaningfully to the development of people, businesses and communities within a finite global ecosystem. This book focuses on an African university's efforts to become more innovative and responsive to community needs and the challenges posed by sustainability. A central concept is innovation competence as a pre-requisite for transforming learning, research and consultancy. Making change in society requires innovation competences over and above disciplinary expertise and these competences have to be learnt by both staff and students. Kibwika not only shows that it is imperative that African universities re-orient their programmes to produce graduates capable of enhancing innovation and social change in the community, he also provides a number of solid stepping stones for capacity building and curriculum development that, in time, will result in an innovative university able to contribute to a world that is more sustainable than the one currently in prospect.
