An American Soldier's Awakening by LTC Nina R. Petrarca USA Ret. Pdf

Never could I have envisioned the siege of emotions to overcome me as my military career came to a halt. I was faced with a psychological war that had become my badge of honor over the years. Standard military tactics had no place at this juncture, and I was well outside my comfort zone. As a woman warrior, my life to date existed outside the norms of conventional thinking, and I was embarking upon unfamiliar territory. I always found comfort in working with my military colleagues in taking on the mission at hand; in fact, it had become second nature. In retirement, I no longer had a foothold in preserving our US Constitution or protecting our republic from enemies, foreign or domestic. I could not fathom the perplexities of this new journey. My faith in God had always been my armor for strength and courage, so why would it be different now? This time, the enemy resided within me, and I had no escape route. I was alone with my thoughts and had no place to go. Through self-reflection, it became apparent that the most effective way to move through this quagmire was to remain close to my faith and acknowledge my feelings in a deliberate and meaningful way. I have always been analytical by nature, and at a young age, I discovered the arts can offer calm when experiencing feelings of despair. Over time, I discovered writing slowed down my racing thoughts and put me back in control of my well-being. As my introspective reasoning became manageable, prose evolved to poetry, my darkness began to shed light, and healing would learn to reside within me. 13

Speak My Soul by Rudolph V. Vanterpool Pdf

Speak My Soul addresses the challenges, strivings, aspirations, anxieties, and perplexities of the human condition. The author's prose form is stylistically free. Characteristically, several of his poems are composed with meticulous attention to rhyming tendencies, while at other times he just lets lines flow as they come to birth in his soul. He tries to locate liberating speech-acts that are able to resonate intimately, from a universal standpoint, with readers of his prose. The book's four-part organization is meant to take readers along on a reflective odyssey through a web of lived-experiences.

Swans of the Kremlin by Christina Ezrahi Pdf

Classical ballet was perhaps the most visible symbol of aristocratic culture and its isolation from the rest of Russian society under the tsars. In the wake of the October Revolution, ballet, like all of the arts, fell under the auspices of the Soviet authorities. In light of these events, many feared that the imperial ballet troupes would be disbanded. Instead, the Soviets attempted to mold the former imperial ballet to suit their revolutionary cultural agenda and employ it to reeducate the masses. As Christina Ezrahi’s groundbreaking study reveals, they were far from successful in this ambitious effort to gain complete control over art. Swans of the Kremlin offers a fascinating glimpse at the collision of art and politics during the volatile first fifty years of the Soviet period. Ezrahi shows how the producers and performers of Russia’s two major troupes, the Mariinsky (later Kirov) and the Bolshoi, quietly but effectively resisted Soviet cultural hegemony during this period. Despite all controls put on them, they managed to maintain the classical forms and traditions of their rich artistic past and to further develop their art form. These aesthetic and professional standards proved to be the power behind the ballet’s worldwide appeal. The troupes soon became the showpiece of Soviet cultural achievement, as they captivated Western audiences during the Cold War period. Based on her extensive research into official archives, and personal interviews with many of the artists and staff, Ezrahi presents the first-ever account of the inner workings of these famed ballet troupes during the Soviet era. She follows their struggles in the postrevolutionary period, their peak during the golden age of the 1950s and 1960s, and concludes with their monumental productions staged to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the revolution in 1968.

“Leavening Thought” Based on Learned Unity Truths by Carolyn Dallas-White Pdf

Unity truth is the fulcrum for the woman I have most gainfully evolved into today. I have happily come into my own. My Unity studies have been the basis for my expansion into Kabbalah, metaphysics and my experiencing the quantum leap. Ever the Worrywart, learning later, worry can be related to creativity and the sensitive. I have been lifelong inventive, from imaginary friends as a small child to the onset of my writingshort stories about the Beatles as a teen, culminating with two plays in two years. I have come a long way since my doubting days of braces and eyeglasses. Unity has gifted me my center and most sacred perception. I feel His presence guiding me. Ive learned to hand my troubles over to God, the Father, providing rescue, respite, release, and renewal; newfound wisdom and gifted intuition. In His all-knowing hands, my life will unveil according to divine plans. I trust in the Lord, the Almighty, molded in His gentle hands. My weekly return to Unity for my spiritual boost and affirmation encourages creativity, clarity, and vision. I never dreamed I would be so fulfilled at sixty-two. I am, due to a lifted Leavening Thought consciousness. It is truly amazing that the Unity lesson reflects upon and even encompasses my week. His miracles, abounding.
