Concerning the Nature of Man by John Allen Pdf

Exploring the depths of human nature in the light of biblical teaching, the author carves a straight path through the tangled undergrowth of Greek Gnosticism that has infiltrated the Church today. Startling in its simplicity, this book takes the reader to the core of the problem, clearly outlining the issues at stake and dealing with them uncompromisingly. Are children to blame for their parents’ sin? Why does man sin? Does a Christian have a dual nature? Are we born bad? Does our nature compel us to commit certain actions, whether bad or good? What is the relationship between a twentieth-century Christian and Adam? Does God see Jesus when He looks at the Church? What is the truth regarding unconditional eternal security? Can a Christian be lost? Answering these questions and many others purely from the Bible, the author brings light and hope on this most misunderstood of all subjects – the nature of man.

The Divine Travail in Nature, Man and the Bible by John Coutts Pdf

Excerpt from The Divine Travail in Nature, Man and the Bible: As Traced by Science and the Method of Christ In former works in the pursuit of truth, the chief object kept in View has been that of discovering in what way the light of science tends to make known to men Divine order and law, as conceived to be the Will of God. This has been done in the light Of the method of the teaching of Christ, as fully explained, and the results have been, as related to Nature, Man and the Bible, such as require the careful consideration of thoughtful men. It is assumed here that unity and harmony of thought have been attained in this direction; thus what is required atgthe present time is not the further study of that line of thought. It is, however, one thing to perceive that such agreement exists in the light of science and the method Of Christ, and to apply these conceptions to the more practical problems of life as these are studied by thoughtful men. When men by the inductive, or scientific, method of thought seek to discover truth, what they desire to know is the true relations that exist, what truly is and what ought to be they seek after definable order, and when that discovered order is verified, then this becomes law, what men ought ever to expect under similar conditions. The position which science has reached, as related to order and law in the physical world is unique in history it is not what men expected in fact, they have had revealed to them a new universe that transcends in glory all the experiences and empiric reasonings of men. It is true that science works for practical ends; but it can now be seen that the results of scientific work, in every direction, tend toward a perfect idealism an intellectual cosmic universe in which order and law are found to be regnant. The Pleasures of God by John Piper Pdf

The author of Desiring God reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Includes a study guide for individual and small-group use. Isn’t it true—we really don’t know someone until we understand what makes that person happy? And so it is with God! What does bring delight to the happiest Being in the universe? John Piper writes, that it’s only when we know what makes God glad that we’ll know the greatness of His glory. Therefore, we must comprehend “the pleasures of God.” Unlike so much of what is written today, this is not a book about us. It is about the One we were made for—God Himself. In this theological masterpiece—chosen by World Magazine as one of the 20th Century’s top 100 books, John Piper reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Then we will be able to drink deeply—and satisfyingly—from the only well that offers living water. What followers of Jesus need now, more than anything else, is to know and love—behold and embrace—the great, glorious, sovereign, happy God of the Bible. “This is a unique and precious book that everybody should read more than once.” —J.I. PACKER, Regent College, Vancouver, British Columbia

Gleanings in the Godhead by Arthur W. Pink Pdf

"Few who occasionally read the Bible are aware of the awe-inspiring and worship-provoking grandeur of the divine character. That God is great in wisdom, wondrous in power, yet full of mercy is assumed by many as common knowledge. But to entertain anything approaching an adequate conception of His being, nature, and attributes, as revealed in the Scripture, is something which very few people in these degenerate times have done. God is solitary in His excellency. "Who is like unto Thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?" (Ex. 15:11). Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and Biblical scholar known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (an occult gnostic group popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death, ' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.

A Peculiar Glory by John Piper Pdf

God has provided a way for all people, not just scholars, to know that the Bible is the Word of God. John Piper has devoted his life to showing us that the glory of God is object of the soul’s happiness. Now, his burden in this book is to demonstrate that this same glory is the ground of the mind’s certainty. God’s peculiar glory shines through his Word. The Spirit of God enlightens the eyes of our hearts. And in one self-authenticating sight, our minds are sure and our hearts are satisfied. Justified certainty and solid joy meet in the peculiar glory of God.
