Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography of the Eye by David Huang,Yali Jia,Bruno Lumbroso,Nadia K. Waheed Pdf

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has undergone tremendous growth since its first commercial introduction in 2014. Because it provides injection-free, capillary-resolution, 3-dimensional angiography of the retina and choroid, OCTA is likely to overtake fluorescein as the most important angiographic imaging technique in the eye. Nearly all manufacturers of ophthalmic OCT now offer OCTA products. A PubMed search now yields over 5700 articles on OCTA and related terms. Clinical investigators have already found a use for OCTA in almost every category of retinal and optic nerve diseases. This book is meant to bring together all this information so clinicians can have one authoritative text to turn to as we begin to use this new imaging modality that was never taught when we were in formal training. Ultrasound Biomicroscopy of the Eye by Charles J. Pavlin,F.Stuart Foster Pdf

The history of the use of ultrasound in medicine has been one of evolution of technology and innovative methods of applying this technology to imaging body structures. Many scientists and clinicians have contributed to this evolution. Ophthalmic ultrasound has become an indispensible tool in ophthalmic practice, with its own instrumentation and techniques. Ultrasound frequencies used in ophthalmology have generally been higher than those used in general medicine because of a requirement for higher resolution and a lesser need for deep penetration. Most ophthalmic diagnostic equipment uses frequencies in the 10 MHz range. The use of ultrasound frequencies in the 50-100 MHz range is a relatively new development in ultrasound imaging of the eye. This technique has been developed in our laboratories over the past several years. We have progressed from the theoretical description of the basic science required, past the first in-vitro experiments in eye bank eyes, to the construction of an instrument capable of clinical application. We have gained broad clinical experience with this instrument in normal patients and patients with ocular disease. A commercial instrument based on our original clinical scanner has recently become available, allowing other clinicians to apply this tool to ophthalmic research and clinical practice. We have applied the term ultrasound biomicroscopy to this new imaging technique because of similarities to optical biomicroscopy, i. e. , the observation of living tissue at microscopic resolution.

Optical Coherence Tomography by Giuseppe Lo Giudice,Irene Gatazzo Pdf

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has dramatically revolutionized ophthalmology in the clinical setting. It has become an indispensable tool for ophthalmologists, enabling them to visualize and diagnose several different ocular diseases. With the advent of OCT, the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases have become even more accurate, efficient, and patient friendly. A new generation of OCT technology with increased resolution and speed has been developed, achieving in vivo optical biopsy (i.e., visualization of tissue architectural morphology in situ and in real-time). Functional extensions of OCT technology enable noninvasive, depth-resolved functional assessment and tissue imaging. This comprehensive and richly illustrated guide enables the reader to identify the anatomy and ophthalmic pathologies illustrated by OCT. It is the most up-to-date book on OCT. All the major pathological areas of ophthalmology are covered, including macular degeneration, uveitis, glaucoma, vascular diseases, and glaucoma abnormalities, as well as other hot topics.

Applications of Optical Coherence Tomography in Ophthalmology by Harold Anderson Pdf

Optical coherence tomography is an imaging test which is non-invasive in nature, and makes use of light waves in order to take cross-section pictures of the retina. The different layers of the retina are visible through this technique. There are numerous eye conditions which can be diagnosed through optical coherence tomography. A few of them are glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular edema and macular hole. The disorders of the optic nerve are also examined using this technique. The conditions which interfere with the passage of light through the eye cannot be diagnosed through optical coherence tomography, since it depends on light waves. This book brings forth some of the most innovative concepts and elucidates the unexplored aspects of optical coherence tomography. It strives to provide a fair idea about its clinical applications and to help develop a better understanding of the latest advances within this field. This book is a vital tool for all researching or studying ophthalmology as it gives incredible insights into emerging trends and concepts.

Handbook of Tissue Optical Clearing by Valery V. Tuchin,Dan Zhu,Elina A. Genina Pdf

Biomedical photonics is currently one of the fastest growing fields, connecting research in physics, optics, and electrical engineering coupled with medical and biological applications. It allows for the structural and functional analysis of tissues and cells with resolution and contrast unattainable by any other methods. However, the major challenges of many biophotonics techniques are associated with the need to enhance imaging resolution even further to the sub-cellular level as well as translate them for in vivo studies. The tissue optical clearing method uses immersion of tissues into optical clearing agents (OCAs) that reduces the scattering of tissue and makes tissue more transparent and this method has been successfully used ever since. This book is a self-contained introduction to tissue optical clearing, including the basic principles and in vitro biological applications, from in vitro to in vivo tissue optical clearing methods, and combination of tissue optical clearing and various optical imaging for diagnosis. The chapters cover a wide range of issues related to the field of tissue optical clearing: mechanisms of tissue optical clearing in vitro and in vivo; traditional and innovative optical clearing agents; recent achievements in optical clearing of different tissues (including pathological tissues) and blood for optical imaging diagnosis and therapy. This book provides a comprehensive account of the latest research and possibilities of utilising optical clearing as an instrument for improving the diagnostic effectiveness of modern optical diagnostic methods. The book is addressed to biophysicist researchers, graduate students and postdocs of biomedical specialties, as well as biomedical engineers and physicians interested in the development and application of optical methods in medicine. Key features: The first collective reference to collate all known knowledge on this topic Edited by experts in the field with chapter contributions from subject area specialists Brings together the two main approaches in immersion optical clearing into one cohesive book
