Systematic Theology Volume III by Charles Hodge D.D. Pdf

Continuing on in the final book on his mammoth work on theology, Hodge finishes his thoughts on the work of Christ, Salvation and the Holy Spirit. He lines out the thinking and fallacies of many evangelical and Roman Catholic schools of thought while clearly explaining the Reformed way of thinking. He concludes this tome with the Calvinist teachings on the final days of both the earth and humanity when they die. Again laying bold arguments for the Reformed way of thinking, Hodge is able to articulate clearly and Biblically this way of theological thought while giving credence to the past.

Does God Send Sickness? by Troy J. Edwards Pdf

“God is said in Scripture to send what he can (but doth not) hinder from being sent.” – Edward Bird (1726)God has been taking the blame for sickness and disease for centuries. We have been told that He sends sickness as an aid to spiritual growth and piety or as a punishment for sin. Vast amounts of Scripture have been cited to support this claim. This idea has contributed to the lack of faith prevalent in the church today for healing and deliverance. After all, if God gave a person sickness then His willingness to heal is questionable. Faith can only be present where the will of God is known. However, if sickness is seen as an enemy of God then faith in God’s willingness to heal is more likely to rise.Numerous apologetic books have been written in support of divine healing, but most have not dealt completely with the many Biblical passages that appear to make God the direct cause of sickness. This book is different in that it will look at these difficult Bible passages in light of the permissive idiom of the ancient Hebrew language, in which God is often said to do the things that He merely allowed or permitted to happen. Those passages in both the Old and New Testaments that make God appear to be a cold and cruel dispenser of sickness and disease will be seen in a new light. You will see God’s loving character vindicated, your Bible will be a fresh source of blessing, and your faith in God for health and healing will soar.

Hearts Beating for Liberty by Stacey M. Robertson Pdf

Challenging traditional histories of abolition, this book shifts the focus away from the East to show how the women of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin helped build a vibrant antislavery movement in the Old Northwest. Stacey Robertson argues that the environment of the Old Northwest--with its own complicated history of slavery and racism--created a uniquely collaborative and flexible approach to abolitionism. Western women helped build this local focus through their unusual and occasionally transgressive activities. They plunged into Liberty Party politics, vociferously supported a Quaker-led boycott of slave goods, and tirelessly aided fugitives and free blacks in their communities. Western women worked closely with male abolitionists, belying the notion of separate spheres that characterized abolitionism in the East. The contested history of race relations in the West also affected the development of abolitionism in the region, necessitating a pragmatic bent in their activities. Female antislavery societies focused on eliminating racist laws, aiding fugitive slaves, and building and sustaining schools for blacks. This approach required that abolitionists of all stripes work together, and women proved especially adept at such cooperation.

One More River to Cross by Bryan Prince Pdf

In the early to mid-19th century, Isaac Brown, a slave, was accused of the attempted murder of a prominent plantation owner, despite there being no evidence of his guilt. Brown, after enduring two brutal floggings, was shipped to a New Orleans slave pen. From there the resourceful Brown was able to make a daring escape to Philadelphia in the free state of Pennsylvania. His biggest error was writing a note informing his free wife and 11 children in Maryland of his whereabouts. The note was intercepted and led to his arrest and extradition back to Maryland. While engaged in researching an ancestor named Isaac Brown, Bryan Prince encountered the very high-profile case of what turned out to be a different Isaac Brown. The story of this slave, with its culmination in Brown's dramatic escape and ultimate success in crossing the border into Canada, is the riveting subject of historian Bryan Prince's latest book.
