The Parade by Dave Eggers Pdf

From a beloved author, a spare, powerful story of two men, Western contractors sent to work far from home, tasked with paving a road to the capital in a dangerous and largely lawless country. Four and Five are partners, working for the same company, sent without passports to a nation recovering from ten years of civil war. Together, operating under pseudonyms and anonymous to potential kidnappers, they are given a new machine, the RS-90, and tasked with building a highway that connects the country's far-flung villages with the capital. Four, nicknamed "The Clock," is one of the highway's most experienced operators, never falling short of his assigned schedule. He drives the RS-90, stopping only to sleep and eat the food provided by the company. But Five is an agent of chaos: speeding ahead on his vehicle, chatting and joking with locals, eating at nearby bars and roadside food stands, he threatens the schedule, breaks protocol, and endangers the work that they must complete in time for a planned government parade. His every action draws Four's ire, but when illness, corruption, and theft compromise their high-stakes mission, Four and Five discover danger far greater than anything they could pose to one another.

Waiting for the Parade by Roger O'Guin Pdf

If you are reading this, you must have come upon it not by happenstance but by a predictable course of events that we call kismet or fate. You may be seeking answers that have not yet come your way, and perhaps they are within this book. All too often many people cling to useless, outdated, ineffective codes of behavior that keep them chained to mediocrity or sameness which, is a life they believe to be their inheritance but, want to dream their way out of! They have no idea that they can in fact, dictate their way out of it and prescribe new possibilities and directions through a new state of mind. The course of our lives is not static, not predetermined but, fluid, flexible. We can change our attitudes and consequently change our future. It’s being done all of the time by others who have figured this out. Despite feelings of entrapment there is a built-in resolution in all of us. An insight or intuition that can be cultivated and will bring new possibilities for the future. Uncertainty then is the enemy of success and the continuum becomes success or failure, both choices being ours to embrace. But too often people choose compliance. They decide to conform to the life they already know and avoid the unfamiliar. So, they choose the same behaviors while overlooking the possibilities that could begin a new and exciting future. My book, Waiting for the Parade, details information on the individual aspects of success and is a unique approach to personal development. It outlines a system of success that has proved effective for Americans competing in the workforce or struggling with life’s personal challenges. The book also contains historical facts on political movements, especially socialism, that are not always healthy for the American people or their wallets. I believe it is time for us to speak out and become voices for truth, sanity, and reality. Many people have become swayed by misinformation, so I have chosen politics, especially socialism, as an example of how a limited education can bring about unintended but large-scale consequences. I have included historical research that exposes the real outcomes of long-term and amateurish socialist attempts at governing. One of the most important elements of my work is the posing and answering of important questions. Are our chosen leaders creative or divisive? Are they really helping our country or dividing it? Are we all capable of learning and achievement? Can all of us succeed if each of us is provided with personally tailored education and opportunity?

After the Parade by Lori Ostlund Pdf

The debut novel from award-winning author Lori Ostlund—“smart, resonant, and imbued with beauty” (Publishers Weekly) that “provides considerable pleasure and emotional power” (The New York Times Book Review)—about a man who leaves his longtime partner in New Mexico for a tragicomic road trip deep into the mysteries of his own Midwestern childhood. Sensitive, bighearted, and achingly self-conscious, forty-year-old Aaron Englund long ago escaped the confinements of his Midwestern hometown, but he still feels like an outcast. After twenty years under the Pygmalion-like care of his older partner, Walter, Aaron at last decides it is time to take control of his own fate. But soon after establishing himself in San Francisco, Aaron sees that real freedom will not come until he has made peace with his memories of Mortonville, Minnesota: a cramped town whose four hundred souls form a constellation of Aaron’s childhood heartbreaks and hopes. After Aaron’s father died in the town parade, it was the larger-than life misfits of his childhood who helped Aaron find his place in a world hostile to difference. But Aaron’s sense of rejection runs deep: when Aaron was seventeen, Dolores—his loving yet selfish and enigmatic mother—vanished one night. And when, all these years later, a new friend in San Francisco offers Aaron a way to locate his mother, his past and present collide, forcing Aaron to rethink his place in the world. “Touching and often hilarious…Ostlund writes with acuity and refreshing honesty about the messy complexity of being a social animal in today’s world…” (Booklist, starred review). “Everything here aches, from the lucid prose to the sensitively treated characters to their beautiful and heartbreaking stories…An example of realism in its most potent iteration: not a nearly arranged plot orchestrated by an authorial god but an authentic, empathetic representation of life as it truly is” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review). After the Parade is a glorious anthem for the outsider.

The Parade's End Tetralogy: Some Do Not, No More Parades, A Man Could Stand Up & Last Post by Ford Madox Ford Pdf

Parade's End is a tetralogy by Ford Madox. The four novels were originally published under the titles: Some Do Not ... (1924), No More Parades (1925), A Man Could Stand Up — (1926), and Last Post (or The Last Post in the USA) (1928). It is set mainly in England and on the Western Front in World War I, where Ford served as an officer in the Welsh Regiment, a life vividly depicted in the novels. The novels chronicle the life of Christopher Tietjens, a brilliant government statistician from a wealthy landowning family who is serving in the British Army during World War I. His wife Sylvia is a flippant socialite who seems intent on ruining him. Tietjens may or may not be the father of his wife's child. Meanwhile, his incipient affair with Valentine Wannop, a high-spirited pacifist and suffragette, has not been consummated, despite what all their friends believe. The two central novels follow Tietjens in the army in France and Belgium, as well as Sylvia and Valentine in their separate paths over the course of the war. Ford Madox Ford ( 1873 – 1939) was an English novelist, poet, critic and editor whose journals, The English Review and The Transatlantic Review, were instrumental in the development of early 20th-century English literature. He is now remembered best for his publications The Good Soldier, the Parade's End tetralogy and The Fifth Queen trilogy.

Could anything possibly be more fun than a pig parade!? You wouldn't think so. But you'd be wrong. A pig parade is a terrible idea. Pigs hate to march, refuse to wear the uniforms, don't care about floats, and insist on playing country music ballads. Those are just some of the reasons. And trust me, this hysterical book has plenty more!
