Sanders Confectionery by Greg Tasker Pdf

For more than 130 years, there has been no sweeter word in Detroit than Sanders. The venerable confectioner was once as much a part of Detroit's streetscape as the Big Three, Hudson's, and Coney Islands. Sanders was more than just an ice-cream and candy shop. A Detroit icon, it served a fountain of memories for generations. Detroiters stood two and three deep behind lunch counters for tuna or egg salad sandwiches, devil's food buttercream "bumpy" cake, hot fudge sundaes, and Sanders' signature dessert--hot fudge cream puffs. As Detroit boomed, so did Sanders. At its peak, the company boasted more than 50 stores, with its products available in as many as 200 supermarkets. The Sanders story began in Chicago, where Fred Sanders opened his first shop. A series of misfortunes prompted him to relocate to Detroit, where he began selling his confections on Woodward Avenue. Business grew steadily, and by the early 1900s, he had opened other shops along Woodward and elsewhere in Detroit. The Motor City nearly lost Sanders in the mid-1980s, but its desserts shops have begun resurfacing, thanks to another Detroit institution, Morley Brands LLC, which bought the Sanders brand.

Sweet Tooth by Kate Hopkins Pdf

A cultural history of candy-how it evolved from medicine and a luxury to today's Kit Kat bars and M&M's Told through the Kate Hopkins' travels in Europe and the U.S., Sweet Tooth is a first-hand account of her obsession with candy and a detailed look at its history and development. The sugary treats we enjoy today have a prominent past entertaining kings, curing the ill, and later developing into a billion-dollar industry. The dark side of this history is that the confectionery industry has helped create an environment of unhealthy overindulgence, has quelled any small business competition that was deemed to be a risk to any large company's bottom line, and was largely responsible for the slave trade that evolved during the era of colonization. Candy's history is vast and complex and plays a distinct part in the growth of the Western world. Thanks to the ubiquity of these treats which allows us to take them for granted, that history has been hidden or forgotten. Until now. Filled with Hopkins' trademark humor and accompanied by her Candy Grab Bag tasting notes, Sweet Tooth is a must-read for everybody who considers themselves a candy freak.

Love into Poetry Ii by Celeste Nadine Gallucci Pdf

With much exuberant joy, I present the second volume of LOVE INTO POETRY, a book of many wonderful memories for me, of my very wonderful, dear Mother, the late Patty S. Gallucci. These poems are what God has inspired me to write for my own mother, for holidays and special occasions. ..I remember when I would write them, I just couldnt wait for the big day to come, to give them to her. Sometimes, I would even think of excuses to talk her into reading them before the special day they were designated for. I always had appropriate stickers to go with each individual poem, and Mother couldnt get over how adorably and beautifully the pages of poetry were decorated. When I asked Mother what she would like for me to title the group of poems I had written especially for her, instantaneously, she replied, LOVE INTO POETRY. So, LOVE INTO POETRY it is. Volume 1 of LOVE INTO POETRY consists of Mothers Day poems for Mothers and some for grandmothers and many more of various subjects. All of the poems in this book are selected ones that other mothers could possibly relate to, coming from their children. So..HAPPY READING, and I wish everyone, (especially Mothers), who reads this poetrylyrical poetic pleasure, beautiful inspiration, and Motherly enjoyment.

Monthly Entries for the Spiritual but not Religious through the Year by Mark G. Boyer Pdf

This is a book about spirituality for the spiritual but not religious. Those who identify themselves as spiritual but not religious make up one quarter of the population in the United States. This book provides 189 monthly entries based on the national and international celebrations that occur every month. Each entry begins with the name of the occasion and the date when it is marked during the month. A text from the Bible, a US public law, a presidential proclamation, a United Nations declaration, etc. that illustrates the day is presented. The text is followed by a reflection which gleans the spirituality from the text and provides historical background on the day being celebrated. Journal/meditation questions follow the reflection, and a prayer concludes the entry. This book is for the spiritual but not religious, a practice of spirituality that does not regard organized religion as a valuable means to further interior spiritual growth. A section of the introduction to the book explores who the spiritual but not religious are and presents the common themes that surface from research about them.

Open Your Eyes by Drew Ryan Maras Pdf

The Apocalypse, Armageddon, Judgment Day, Doomsday, cataclysmic disasters on a Biblical scale...the End of Days as we know it. This book is your guide to navigating the revelation, and the Rosetta Stone for deciphering this once-every-25,800-year galactic alignment cycle set to commence on December 21, 2012. Open Your Eyes: To 2012 and Beyond will lay the foundation and build a framework around 2012 to help you ascertain the answers to the question that's synonymous with ambiguity: When will the world as we know it end? Open Your Eyes will literally do just that-open your eyes-and release you from your programmed mind in order to shed light and truth on controversial subjects bound together by fate, not coincidence. Part self-help, part current affairs, this book provides an investigation of a myriad correlating prophesies and events that synergistically corroborate one another. Each piece of the End of Days puzzle comes into view by the book's end to reveal a crystal clear picture of what is about to occur with our fragile world. This complete picture will manifest an epiphany within you. Many topics discussed here have remained undisclosed to the public, are sensitive and not publicly indoctrinated. Trained for war by the U.S. Marines Corps infantry and then turned pacifist, author Drew R. Maras raises the flag of awareness on the duality of man and the importance of peace. So, if you want some answers-or just a provocative, powerful ride-this book is just for you.

The Ghost Patrol got its name after being reported that all members were killed in the battle of Gettysburg. The Special Forces unit had gotten well-known for its successful raids on Yankee supply lines, either destroying them or carrying war materials to rebel camps. Now they were asked to attack supply trains and even to steal the whole train and bring it to the rebels who were in desperate need of all war supplies. Captain Sam, as his men liked to call him, was an excellent soldier. He handpicked his men and gave them special training. They were well-disciplined to fight hard and win. New Old-fashioned Ways by Jack Santino Pdf

Jack Santino's analysis encompasses everything from movies to romance novels, from television shows to comic books. One especially fascinating feature of this study is its examination of the packaged-foods industry and the manner in which soft drinks, beer, snack cakes, cookies, candy, and breakfast cereals are regularly repackaged to reflect particular holidays. In what becomes a central theme of the book, Santino shows how holidays give companies the opportunity to create an illusion of novelty for products that otherwise remain unchanged over time. For example, the holiday Chips Ahoy cookies or Halloween Oreos differ only in their appearance from the everyday products, but they assume a quality of uniqueness through their association with a special time of the year. Throughout the book, Santino examines the logic by which commercial culture and holidays are linked. Halloween, for instance, with its traditional symbolism of death, evil, and monsters, has served as a theme for heavy metal music and slasher films. This, in turn, has led to some interesting transmutations as one text borrows from another in the wake of a commercial success. When John Carpenter's pioneering 1978 slasher film Halloween became a box-office hit, it was perhaps inevitable that other holiday-based slasher films - New Year's Evil, April Fool's Day, and Silent Night, Deadly Night - would follow. Copiously illustrated, New Old-Fashioned Ways is at once entertaining and informative - a treat for general readers as well as an important work for scholars in a variety of fields, including communications, folklore, anthropology, sociology, and business.

Life, Beats, & Pieces by Ms. Pinks Pdf

Life is a symphony of tears and laughter. It's a harmony of shouts of joy, quiet moments of pain, and whispers of hope and love. The moments that make your heart skip a beat or those that make it beat like a drum. Even the times when you cry as it wrenches, squeezed tight. Each of those adds flavor to composing your life's musical piece.
