Jamestown, Quebec, Santa Fe by James Kelly,Barbara Clark Smith Pdf
If 1492 began a period of exploration, 1607 inaugurated another momentous chapter in world history- the colonization of America north of Mexico. This process of colonization was not just a westward movement. True, English Jamestown was founded in 1607, but the center of French influence, Quebec, followed the next year, and Santa Fe, the main source of Hispanic culture, came another year later. Jamestown, Que bec, Santa Fe: Three American Beginnings traces the little- known story of the creation of three centers from which English, French, and Spanish influence radiated out into a continent. It shows the English expanding north from Virginia to New England and south to Carolina; the French moving south from the St Lawrence down the Mississippi to Louisiana; and New Mexicans migrating both west and east into Arizona and across the plains of Texas. All three colonies had to deal with native people already there. There were significant commonalities and profound differences in how they interacted with Native Americans, and in their respective political, social, economic, and religious systems. The authors argue convincingly that what happened in the 1600s set in motion many of the forces that have shaped our society ever since and inaugurated some of our nation's enduring challenges: church- state conflict, multiculturalism, participatory politics, economic individualism, racial inequity, and Indian dispossession.

The Broadview Anthology of American Literature Volume A: Beginnings to 1820 by Derrick R. Spires,Christina Roberts,Joseph Rezek,Justine S. Murison,Laura L. Mielke,Christopher Looby,Rodrigo Lazo,Alisha Knight,Hsuan L. Hsu,Rachel Greenwald Smith,Michael Everton,Christine Bold Pdf
Covering American literature from its pre-contact Indigenous beginnings through the Reconstruction period, the first two volumes of The Broadview Anthology of American Literature represent a substantial reconceiving of the canon of early American literature. Guided by the latest scholarship in American literary studies, and deeply committed to inclusiveness, social responsibility, and rigorous contextualization, the anthology balances representation of widely agreed-upon major works with an emphasis on American literature’s diversity, variety, breadth, and connections with the rest of the Americas. Highlights of Volume A: Beginnings to 1820 • Complete texts of Mary Rowlandson’s captivity narrative and Hannah Webster Foster’s The Coquette • In-depth Contexts sections on such topics as “Slavery and Resistance,” “Rebellions and Revolutions,” and “Print Culture and Popular Literature” • Broader and more extensive coverage of Indigenous oral and visual literature than in competing anthologies • Full author sections in the anthology devoted not only to frequently anthologized figures but also to authors such as Anne Hutchinson, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, and Briton Hammon
These studies are included in the correspondence courses of the Bible Baptist Seminary of Fort Worth, Texas. Other Seminary and Bible Institutes are investigating and in several instances have accepted Dr. Entzminger’s Studies as text books in their regular courses. Dr. Entzminger’s books are just what the title implies – “Bible Studies,” and not just for reading. The Bible should be opened in the hands of the student and all references carefully studied. Invaluable to preachers, Bible teachers and to all Christian workers. Volumes of letters of highest commendation could be published concerning Dr. Entzminger’s work. We give three or four: Luther C. Peak, B.D., Th.M.’ L.L.D., says: “… more original truths brought to light in Dr. Entzminger’s Studies than anything I have read, than any Commentary or Exposition on the Bible I have ever studied.” The late Dr. Fred W. Dyson, Dean of Bible Baptist Seminary, and Director of Personnel, said: “It has been my privilege to read and teach some of the books Dr. Entzminger has written, and I say unreservedly, that I can recommend them wholeheartedly to anybody that loves Bible study. They are sound, scriptural, sane and very suggestive. No preacher or Sunday School teacher or Christian worker can afford to be without them.” Dr. Oscar Wells, Professor of Theology in Bible Baptist Seminary, says: “I have found his expositions of God’s Word – truly nuggets brought forth from the refiner’s pen.”

A History of Law in Canada, Vol. 1 by Philip Girard,Jim Phillips,R. Blake Brown Pdf
A History of Law in Canada is the first of two volumes. Volume one begins at a time just prior to European contact and continues to the 1860s, while volume two will start with Confederation and end at approximately 2000. The history of law includes substantive law, legal institutions, legal actors, and legal culture. The authors assume that since 1500 there have been three legal systems in Canada - the Indigenous, the French, and the English. At all times, these systems have co-existed and interacted, with the relative power and influence of each being more or less dominant in different periods. The history of law cannot be treated in isolation, and this book examines law as a dynamic process, shaped by and affecting other histories over the long term. The law guided and was guided by economic developments, was influenced and moulded by the nature and trajectory of political ideas and institutions, and variously exacerbated or mediated intercultural exchange and conflict. These themes are apparent in this examination, and through most areas of law including land settlement and tenure, and family, commercial, constitutional, and criminal law.

The Beginnings of Perinatal Medicine by Erich Saling,Monika Dräger,Jens H. Stupin Pdf
