Ultrastructure of Rat Adenohypophysis by Allen Costoff Pdf

Ultrastructure of Rat Adenohypophysis: Correlation with Function discusses the ultrastructure of the anterior pituitary in the normal intact rat, as well as in animal after various treatments and changes in its physiology. Wherever possible, the book attempts to coordinate and associate changes in pituitary ultrastructure with physiological aspects. The book also presents a method for the isolation of various populations of pituitary secretory granules that can be used in experimental endocrinological research. It also discusses the various cell types, including the chromophobe; the pars tuberalis and pars intermedia of the adenohypophysis; and the chemical and physical properties of the secretory granules and their formation and release. This reference will serve as a guide for pituitary ultrastructural studies in other species. It is valuable to students and experienced investigators in the field of endocrinology, anatomy, pathology, physiology, biochemistry, and related disciplines.

The Anterior Pituitary by A. Tixier-Vidal,Marilyn G. Farquhar Pdf

Ultrastructure in Biological Systems, Volume 7: The Anterior Pituitary presents the mechanisms involved in the release of adenohypophysial hormones. This book explores the morphological approach to fundamental aspects of pituitary cell biology. Organized into eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of how the ultrastructure of cellular organelles can yield valid criteria of identification. This text then discusses the cellular and subcellular localization of anterior pituitary hormones by immunoelectron microscopy. Other chapters consider the localization of possible receptor sites for hormonal messengers on anterior pituitary cells. This book discusses as well the in vitro systems that have undergone a significant development, which is the ultrastructure and function of dispersed anterior pituitary cells. The final chapter deals with the ultrastructure of pituitary tumors, which can be divided into two categories, namely, functional and nonfunctional, according to the presence or the absence in the host of hormonal hypersecretion signs. This book is a valuable resource for biochemists, endocrinologists, histologists, and pathologists.

Ultrastructure of Endocrine Cells and Tissues by P. Motta Pdf

Innovative microscopic techniques, introduced during the last two decades, have contributed much to creating a new picture of the dynamic architecture of the cell, which can now be more exactly correlated with specific biochemical and physiopathological events. These developments have led to significant advances in our understanding of the physiomorphological and pathological aspects of the secretory mechanism, as well as the pharmacologic methods used to control, experimentally, the function of exocrine and endocrine glands. The integration of new ultrastructural methods such as freeze-fracture/etching, immunocytochemistry, scanning and high-voltage electron microscopy, cytoautoradiography, etc. , has proven to be of great value when applied to the study of endocrine cells and tissues. Because information on this topic has appeared in a variety of scientific and medical journals, this book: (1) reviews the results of an integrative approach presenting a comprehensive ultrastructural account of the main aspects of the field; (2) points out gaps or controversial topics in our knowledge; and (3) outlines pertinent directions for future research. The chapters, prepared by recognized authorities in the field, present traditional information on the topic in a concise manner and, with a valuable selection of original illustrations, show what the integration of new microscopic methods can contribute to the subject in terms of new concepts. This volume will be useful to cell biologists, anatomists, embryologists, histologists, pharmacologists, pathologists, and, of course, endocrinologists. It will also be of interest to students, practitioners of medicine, and to all others dealing with clinical research and diagnosis.

The International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) was creat ed to promote cooperative efforts toward solving critical health and safety questions involving foods, drugs, cosmet ics, chemicals, and other aspects of the environment. The officers and trustees believe that questions regarding health and safety are best resolved when government and industry rely on scientific investigations, analyses, and reviews by independent experts. Further, the scientific aspects of an issue should be examined and discussed on an international basis, separate from the political concerns of individual companies. The Institute is pleased to sponsor this set of monographs on pathology of laboratory animals. This project will help to improve the scientific application of the techniques of pathology to the evaluation of substances in our environ ment. The worldwide distribution of the authors, editors, and editorial board encourages the expectation that inter national communication and cooperation will also be strengthened. Alex Malaspina President International Life Sciences Institute Preface This book on the endocrine system is Volume I of a set of reference books on pathology of laboratory animals, prepared by the Interna tional Life Sciences Institute in response to recommendations from its Committee on Pathology and Toxicology. One aim is to provide infor mation which will be useful to pathologists, especially those involved in studies on the safety of foods, drugs, chemicals, and other sub stances in the environment.

Ultrastructural Investigations on the Pituitary-Gonadal Axis by D. A. Bhiwgade,Sasikumar Menon Pdf

This book provides the ultrastructural study of the pituitary–gonadal axis through the electron microscope. It is a compilation of extensive work carried out by Dr. D.A. Bhiwgade and his researchers over the last four decades. It explains the ultrastructural characteristics of pituitary cells in different morphological states and provides a comprehensive approach to identifying the structural and functional distinctions between various pituitary cell types. The book includes ultrastructural evaluations of the testis and epididymis after different experimental interventions to study the physiological correlations of the organs with spermatogenesis and the consequent structural deformities in sperm. An extensive section of different types of placentae is added for understanding the varied interactions of fetal and maternal tissues in the placental barrier. Placental types seen in bats, shrews, rodents, and monkeys are explained at the ultrastructural level to distinguish the tissue interrelationships within different placental layers. Detailed sketches have been provided to illustrate the correlations between the maternal and fetal tissues in different placental types for better understanding. This book is a ready reckoner and offers guidance to researchers and clinicians in understanding the cellular architecture and intracellular changes associated with various physiological states and clinical conditions of the pituitary, testis, epididymis, and placenta. This book offers assistance to all those using electron microscopy to evaluate cellular and tissue systems.

Synthesis and Release of Adenohypophyseal Hormones by Marian Jutisz Pdf

In September, 1977, at a conference organized by Dr. Kenneth McKerns in Northeast Harbor, Maine, USA, I was asked by the Editorial Committee of the Biochemical Endocrinology series to investigate the possibility of organizing the next meeting in France. I proposed a subject which is in the area of my research interest, and this subject was accepted. On arriving back in France, I first looked for an appropriate place for the meeting, and the Chateau de Seillac was chosen in accordance with many objective criteria. We know that all who attended the meeting held in Seillac enjoyed this quiet and charming place in the Loire Valley. The next step was to choose some experts in the field who would contribute to the monograph and present their papers at a conference for the purpose of generating discussions. The action of the local committee, composed of Dr. A. Tixier-Vidal, Dr. Claude Kordon, and me, was crucial in this respect. The local committee proposed the program for the meeting and a list of the majority of contributors to be invited. I wish to thank Dr. Tixier-Vidal and Dr. Kordon for their invaluable assistance.
