Visible Light-Driven Organic Synthesis by Goutam Brahmachari Pdf

Visible Light-Driven Organic Synthesis covers the recent cutting-edge investigations in the field of visible light-driven organic synthesis in a single comprehensive volume. It provides information on rigorously selected reaction schemes and covers new reactions and new methods under visible light photocatalysis. It enlists about 200 important synthetic strategies/methodologies with particular emphasis on useful reactions for organic synthesis under the mild reaction conditions reported in recent times involving carbon-carbon (C-C) and carbon-heteroatom bond forming reactions resulting in a wide spectrum of chemical compounds, providing an outstanding source of information concerning industrial applications. The chapters are classified based on various photocatalysts that have found direct applications in organic synthesis by carrying out different kinds of organic reactions. Each chapter is dedicated to a particular photocatalyst, and each selected reaction is dealt with in a compact manner through point-wise discussion under distinct sub-headings covering the reaction type, reaction conditions, bond-forming information reaction strategy involved, general reaction scheme, examples of representative entries with chemical structures and physical properties, a suggested plausible mechanism, experimental procedure, spectral and analytical data of one or two representative entries, critical views, and literature. In addition, a chapter has been designed to cover the photo-induced reactions that do not require any photocatalysts. This book is immensely helpful to chemistry students, teachers, researchers, academicians, and chemical/agrochemical industry people to access the latest information and advances on the developments of visible light-driven organic synthesis.

Photoorganocatalysis In Organic Synthesis by Maurizio Fagnoni,Stefano Protti,Davide Ravelli Pdf

The use of organocatalysts able to photocatalyze an organic reaction is a rapidly growing field. These photocatalyzed transformations are more environmentally sustainable with respect to the use of expensive/toxic metal-based (photo)catalysts.Based on the authors' extensive experience in photogenerated intermediates, this book presents an overview on photocatalyzed organic processes having a synthetic significance, where an organic molecule functions as the photocatalyst. After a brief introduction defining the nature and the characteristics of a photoorganocatalyst (POC), the chapters are organized according to the class of POC used, as detailed below. Each chapter begins with a summary of the photophysical characteristics of the POCs and is followed by selected examples of synthetic applications. The last two chapters are devoted to the adoption of photoorganocatalysis in polymerization and to flow photoorganocatalysis. These in-depth explanations and practical applications make this title an essential reading for any chemistry student interested in organic (sustainable) synthesis.

Chemical Photocatalysis by Burkhard König Pdf

Visible light is an abundant source of energy. While the conversion of light energy into electrical energy (photovoltaics) is highly developed and commercialized, the use of visible light in chemical synthesis is far less explored. Chemical photocatalysts that mimic principles of biological photosynthesis utilize visible light to drive endothermic or kinetically hindered reactions.

Synthesis and Characterization of Some Nanostructured Materials for Visible Light-driven Photo Processes by Rania Elhadi Adam Pdf

Nanostructured materials for visible light driven photo-processes such as photodegradation of organic pollutants and photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation for hydrogen production are very attractive because of the positive impact on the environment. Metal oxides-based nanostructures are widely used in these photoprocesses due to their unique properties. But single nanostructured metal oxide material might suffer from low efficiency and instability in aqueous solutions under visible light. These facts make it important to have an efficient and reliable nanocomposite for the photo-processes. The combination of different nanomaterials to form a composite configuration can produce a material with new properties. The new properties which are due to the synergetic effect, are a combination of the properties of all the counterparts of the nanocomposite. Zinc oxides (ZnO) have unique optical and electrical properties which grant it to be used in optoelectronics, sensors, solar cells, nanogenerators, and photocatalysis activities. Although ZnO absorbs visible light from the sun due to the deep level band, it mainly absorbs ultraviolet wavelengths which constitute a small portion of the whole solar spectrum range. Also, ZnO has a problem with the high recombination rate of the photogenerated electrons. These problems might reduce its applicability to the photo-process. Therefore, our aim is to develop and investigate different nanocomposites materials based on the ZnO nanostructures for the enhancement of photocatalysis processes using the visible solar light as a green source of energy. Two photo-processes were applied to examine the developed nanocomposites through photocatalysis: (1) the photodegradation of organic dyes, (2) PEC water splitting. In the first photo-process, we used the ZnO nanoparticles (NPs), Magnesium (Mg)-doped ZnO NPs, and plasmonic ZnO/graphene-based nanocomposite for the decomposition of some organic dyes that have been used in industries. For the second photo-process, ZnO photoelectrode composite with different silver-based semiconductors to enhance the performance of the ZnO photoelectrode was used for PEC reaction analysis to perform water splitting. The characterization and photocatalysis experiment results showed remarkable enhancement in the photocatalysis efficiency of the synthesized nanocomposites. The observed improved properties of the ZnO are due to the synergetic effects are caused by the addition of the other nanomaterials. Hence, the present thesis attends to the synthesis and characterization of some nanostructured materials composite with ZnO that are promising candidates for visible light-driven photo-processes.

Science of Synthesis: Photocatalysis in Organic Synthesis by Burkhard König Pdf

The field of photocatalysis has developed rapidly over the last decade and it is time to clarify its impact on organic synthesis. This volume is an opportunity to provide the defining and current reference work for this field. A primary objective is to collect together the most useful, practical, and reliable methods for photocatalysis and to introduce them to a larger audience. The fundamental concepts of photophysics are introduduced and laboratory set-ups are described, enabling newcomers to the field to instantly apply these new tools in synthesis. Rather than aiming for comprehensive coverage, solutions for challenging transformations in synthesis applying visible light and suitable dyes are presented. A team of pioneers and leaders in the field has been assembled, who discuss both the practical and conceptual aspects of this rapidly growing field. Scope, limitations, and mechanism of the reactions are covered and key experimental procedures are included.
