"We Will Be Satisfied With Nothing Less" by Hugh Davis Pdf

Historians have focused almost entirely on the attempt by southern African Americans to attain equal rights during Reconstruction. However, the northern states also witnessed a significant period of struggle during these years. Northern blacks vigorously protested laws establishing inequality in education, public accommodations, and political life and challenged the Republican Party to live up to its stated ideals. In "We Will Be Satisfied With Nothing Less", Hugh Davis concentrates on the two issues that African Americans in the North considered most essential: black male suffrage rights and equal access to the public schools. Davis connects the local and the national; he joins the specifics of campaigns in places such as Cincinnati, Detroit, and San Francisco with the work of the National Equal Rights League and its successor, the National Executive Committee of Colored Persons. The narrative moves forward from their launching of the equal rights movement in 1864 to the "end" of Reconstruction in the North two decades later. The struggle to gain male suffrage rights was the centerpiece of the movement's agenda in the 1860s, while the school issue remained a major objective throughout the period. Following the ratification of the Fifteenth Amendment in 1870, northern blacks devoted considerable attention to assessing their place within the Republican Party and determining how they could most effectively employ the franchise to protect the rights of all citizens.

Drawing Closer to God by Sophia Allison Pdf

Drawing Closer to Guys is a book that revolves around the main message of singleness, struggle, and the hidden blessing that singleness can be. Through twelve chapters, you will find yourself inching closer and closer to the incredible plan and purpose that God has for you and your singleness. Whether its sexual sin, the ever-wishing desire for a boyfriend, problems in relationships, or the need of a strong foundation in Christ, this book goes through the struggles and temptations that come with singleness within the teenage years and how to combat them and have victory over them. Through awkward and confusing guy friendships to life-changing testimony of God's greatness, each chapter reflects a different aspect of God's incredible workings that He can do and will do in every teenage girls' life, told by a teenage girl herself. Though singleness is hard, and struggle can be unbearable, Drawing Closer to Guys presses the message that it is possible to be single, joy filled, and passionate about purity. From struggle to tears to God's faithfulness to perseverance, endurance to weariness, but God's never-failing love, it is all found within these pages and it is all found within the life of one teenage girl's ongoing experience of it all.

The Primacy of Love by Paul J. Wadell Pdf

Thomas Aquinas was a man with a strategy -- not a strategy to assist us in good decision-making or a strategy to help us resolve our problems of conscience, but a strategy to work toward our personal transformation in light of God's love for us. Aquinas has traditionally been represented as a man whose ethics are overly rational, excessively formal, and too scholarly to be of much use in contemporary society. The Primacy of Love gives us a fresh look at his ethical thought and invites us to become part of his vision of the moral life as partners in God's perfect love. Author Paul Wadell gives special attention to the role of the passions, affections, and emotions in our moral life and creates a richly humane and compelling study written in a clear and accessible style. The Primacy of Love is a modern map for our own moral journey that is not so much something to study, but a way of life in which to participate. To follow this journey is to take up an adventure that will involve you from the center of your being and will change you forever.
