Our Crumbling Foundation by Gregor Craigie Pdf

NATIONAL BESTSELLER An urgent and illuminating examination of the unrelenting housing crisis Canadians find ourselves facing, by Balsillie Prize finalist and CBC Radio host Gregor Craigie, Our Crumbling Foundation offers real-life solutions from around the world and hope for new housing innovation in the face of seemingly impossible obstacles. Canada is experiencing a housing shortage. Although house prices in major Canadian cities appear to have topped out in early 2023, new housing isn’t coming onto the market quickly enough. Rising interest rates have only tightened the pressure on buyers, and renters, too, as rising mortgage rates cost landlords more, which are passed along to tenants in rent increases. Even with the recent federal budget commitment to bring more housing online by 2030, there will still be a shortfall of 3.5 million homes by 2030. Gregor Craigie is a CBC journalist in Victoria, one of the highest-priced housing markets in the country. On his daily radio show On The Island he's been talking for over 15 years to local experts and to those across the country about housing. Craigie has travelled to many of the places he profiles in the book, and in his interviews with Canadians he presents the human face of the shortfall as he speaks with renters, owners and homeless people, exploring their varying predicaments and perspectives. He then shows, through comparable profiles of people across the globe, how other North American and international jurisdictions (Tokyo, Paris, Berlin, Helsinki, Singapore, Ireland, to name a few) are housing their citizens better, faster and with determination—solutions that could be put into practice here. With passion, knowledge and vigour, Craigie explains how Canada reached this critical impasse and will convince those who may not yet recognize how badly our entire country is in need of change. Our Crumbling Foundation provides hope for finding our way out of the crisis by recommending a number of approaches at all levels of government. The prescription for how we’re going to house ourselves, and do so equitably, requires not just a business solution, nor simply a social solution, but rather a combination of both, working hand-in-hand with all levels of government, and quickly, in order to catch up with and outpace the needs of Canadians in this ever-intensifying crisis over a basic human right.

The Case of the Crumbling Crystals by Pat Morrissey,Havlin Pdf

A science fiction, mystery adventure for the young adult Trina Trianna considered herself a pretty normal 13-year-old. She loved her parents (most of the time), loved her friends (most of the time), studied hard (some of the time) and dreamed about being an astrologer (absolutely all of the time)! In her hometown of Alexandria, Egypt, in the Year 2433, life went on pretty much as it had for centuries. Sure, Trina used a hologram projection of herself to “try on” her clothes to find just the right outfit. And she had her very own robot to tutor her in astrology. But, over all, her life was quite unexciting. That is, until Tony, a ghost from Jupiter, came to visit. Once Tony arrived, things started happening. They discovered a place where the earth seemed to be disintegrating. While trying to uncover the reason, Trina found that she too seemed to be disintegrating. When her mom took her to the doctor, she learned that a very cute — but notoriously stuck up — young aristocrat named Ethan had the same problem she did. While following the trail of the mystery, Trina, Tony and Ethan met a gigantic crystal that talked, flew a jet helicopter into restricted air space, and got tied up in a cave and left for dead. By using astrology to search for clues, they managed to solve the mystery and earn the gratitude of the entire solar system.

Crumbs Along the Trail by Glenn Crumb; Marvin Crumb Pdf

The Daniel Crumb family settled in Westerly, Rhode Island in 1669. For their service in the Indian war and the one for colonial freedom they were awarded land grants in central New York state. They then moved further west to establish a mill near De Ruyter forming a community known as Crumb Hill. During the War of 1812, family members became acquainted with an old sea captain who had political connections in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City and the state capital of New York. These people were seeking to further develop settlements which might support routes to the Northwest Territory. The captain encouraged the Crumbs to travel further west to the area beyond of the Finger Lakes. They did so using early features of the Erie Canal. The Crumb built mills formed new communities in the Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties of New York. Culver Crumb moved to Pennline, Pa. but stayed only ten years. With urgings from the American Settlement Company in early spring of 1857 after passing through the Midwest by train from Pennline to St. Louis, via Chicago, the Crumbs arrived by riverboat in Westport near Kansas City; the final leg of their journey on the Santa Fe Trail was by covered wagon to Council City, Kansas Territory. The dates of these journeys are established fact so the creative aspect of the writing deals with daily happenings in the lives of these people during these journeys and after their arrival in Kansas.
