A Text-Book in the Principles of Education (Classic Reprint) by Ernest Norton Henderson Pdf

Excerpt from A Text-Book in the Principles of Education IN the following pages I have endeavored to present in a systematic way the outlines of a theory of education from the point of view of evolution. The evolutionary conception has been applied to educational theory more or less consistently by all writers on the subject since the time of Froebel. The development of more and more scientific knowledge in regard to the history of life, of mind, and of society has, however, made possible constant reconstruction of the general princi ples, in terms of which the process of evolution through edu cation is to be conceived. I have tried to draw into a unified scheme what seem to me the essential features of current thought on this subject today. Principles of Education (Classic Reprint) by Frederick Elmer Bolton Pdf

Excerpt from Principles of Education The present work is the outgrowth of actual class-room experience in teaching the subject for two years in the State Normal School at Milwaukee and eight years in the State Uni versity of Iowa. Previous to this experience, many of the ideas here expressed had been gradually shaping themselves while the author was teaching and supervising in public schools. All of the material has been carefully tested in junior and senior university classes, and much of it in advanced normal school classes. Portions of several chapters have been given many times in teachers' institutes and associations. The distinct aim, however, has been to produce a text-book of college grade for beginners in the study of educational science. The Principles of Education (Classic Reprint) by T. Raymont Pdf

Excerpt from The Principles of Education At the same time, I have attempted, in planning and executing the work, to contribute in some small degree towards placing the study of education on a secure basis. The great majority of English books on the subject are either frankly empirical or frankly psychological. The merest glance at these pages will show that it would ill become me to speak slightingly of the excellent work that has been done in the first of these directions. But the final word cannot rest with the empiricists. It remains for professed students of education to gather up, to harmonise, and to present in systematic form, the lessons of experience. Principles of Secondary Education by Charles De Garmo Pdf

Excerpt from Principles of Secondary Education: A Text-Book It is the aim of this volume to make an initial statement of such principles, in the form of a text book for college and university classes. That there is need for such a work in English is evident, whether we consider the magnitude of the interests now involved in the American high school, or the influence exerted by the monumental German works on gymnasial education, from Schrader to Bau meister, or the inadequacy of elementary professional training as a preparation for high-school teaching. Principles of Secondary Education by Charles de Garmo Pdf

Excerpt from Principles of Secondary Education: A Textbook Since the first edition of this volume was issued seven years ago, there has been a rapid development in some aspects of the American high school. The function and educational value of the several studies have not been materially changed; consequently no sufficient reason exists for altering the parts of this book that pertain to those topics. Much pressure, however, has been brought to bear upon the high school to compel it to alter somewhat fundamentally its leading purposes, especially with respect to vocational ends. This powerful modern movement calls for a reexamination of educational principles in the light of present conditions. What high-school leaders and teachers seem most to desire is a perspective of the whole a situation, in order that they may estimate correctly the validity of the respective claims of general and special education, for they fluctuate according to the needs and conditions of various locations. To meet this need for perspective, six chapters upon "Basic Ideals for Educational Progress" have been added. Education for the Needs of Life by Irving Elgar Miller Pdf

Excerpt from Education for the Needs of Life: A d104book in the Principles of Education, for Use in Elementary Classes in Normal Schools and Colleges and in Institutes and Reading Circles The preparation of this book is the direct outgrowth of the generous appreciation given to the writer's "Psychology of Thinking." The dominant point of view of that book is here applied more widely to the interpretation of education. Although treating of principles and fundamental ideas rather than of details, nevertheless the attempt has been made to express the thought simply enough to make the book useful as a text in elementary courses in Normal Schools and Colleges and as the basis of discussion for groups of students who are working together in reading circles and teachers institutes. Education is conceived as an integral phase of the life process. Everything that lives has needs to be met. In so far as any living being actually modifies its own behavior in the light of experience, learning occurs. Conscious, or intentional, education gives guidance and direction to the natural learning processes. It does not substitute something else for the principles, laws, and methods of nature; it works in harmony with them and facilitates nature in the attainment of her goal in the lives of individuals. The outcome is that the needs of life are met better, more fully, and at higher levels. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Principles and Methods in Commercial Education by Joseph Kahn Pdf

Excerpt from Principles and Methods in Commercial Education: A d104-Book for Teachers, Students, and Business Men The occasion of the publication of a pioneer work on the subject of Principles and Methods in Commercial Education makes it appropriate to review the progress in the field of education which has made this work necessary. The rapid development of commercial education within the past fifteen years, which has been marked by the establishment of secondary and higher schools of commerce, has not only enlarged the concept of business education beyond the clerical aim of the old-time business college, but has also given rise to the need for properly trained teachers in commercial schools. The demand is for teachers who, besides being masters of their subject, are acquainted with the principles and methods of their specialty and have the ability to apply these principles in the class-room. While facilities for training persons for the higher branches of business have been established by universities, and while the literature dealing with this phase is considerable, it is strange that practically nothing has been done thus far to give prospective teachers the pedagogical foundation without which the mastery of the subject alone is inadequate to fit them for the highest attainment in their profession. The universities have sadly neglected the opportunity to offer normal training to commercial teachers, and the lack of literature on methodology is a distinct reflection of this neglect. Principles of Secondary Education (Classic Reprint) by Alexander James Inglis Pdf

Excerpt from Principles of Secondary Education In the construction of a book on the principles of second ary education one of two methods may be employed. A number of specialists may collaborate in the production of a book which consists of several more or less isolated treatises on various separate phases of secondary education. Such a method has many merits, but precludes the develop ment of a consistently constructive theory. On the other hand, when a single individual attempts to write a book covering a field as broad as that of secondary education, there are always two possible dangers: either the limitations of the individual may lead to superficial treatment and error, or unsupported personal opinion and bias may dominate. The first of these dangers is minimized when the writer refrains from attempting to deal with the details of teach ing appropriate to the various studies of the secondary school program and confines this attention to more funda mental principles. In this book the author deals with special studies only in connection with the broader matters of aims and values, together with the larger elements of method necessarily involved. A later volume in this series will deal with the principles of teaching in the secondary school and several volumes will deal with methods of teaching special subjects or groups of subjects.
