Breakwaters and Closure Dams by Kees d'Angremond Pdf
Breakwaters and closure dams belong to the most spectacular hydraulic structures. They are exposed to the most severe loading by waves and currents, either during their construction, or during their life cycle. Design and construction of these structures are so vitally interrelated that a proper understanding requires a thorough knowledge of the th
Advances in Coastal Structures and Breakwaters by J. E. Clifford,Institution of Civil Engineers (Great Britain) Pdf
These conference proceedings present authoritative papers on new experience and research, particularly that which has led to advances in design procedures. It covers design, construction and performance experience of coastal structures and breakwaters particularly including new developments.
Numerical Models for Submerged Breakwaters by Amir Sharifahmadian Pdf
Numerical Models for Submerged Breakwaters: Coastal Hydrodynamics and Morphodynamics discusses the practice of submerged breakwaters, an increasingly popular tool used as a coastal defense system because of their amenity and aesthetics as compared to common emerged beach protection measures. The book is the perfect guide for experienced professionals who wish to keep abreast of the latest best practices or those who are entering the field and need a reference, explaining new and traditional numerical methodologies for designing submerged breakwaters and measuring their performance. In addition, the book provides case studies, examples, and practical methods for data selection and pre-processing, model setup, calibration, and analysis. Case studies and worked-out examples illustrate different concepts and methods Offers practical methods for Data Selection and Pre-Processing Provides simplified prediction tools for practical applications
Periodic Inspections of Kahului and Laupahoehoe Breakwaters, Hawaii by Dennis G. Markle,Stanley J. Boc Pdf
Under the Monitoring of Completed Coastal Projects (MCCP) work unit, Periodic Inspections, past MCCP structures and structures with unique design aspects that have probable applications to other projects are considered for inclusion in a periodic monitoring program. The emphasis of the work is to measure the long-term response of the above-water portions of the structures to their environment. The rubble-mound breakwaters at Kahului Harbor, Maui, Hawaii, and Laupahoehoe Boat Launching Facility, Laupahoehoe Point, Hawaii, Hawaii, are armored with concrete armor unit and concrete rib caps. By means of limited land surveys, low-level helicopter inspections with 35-mm photography, aerial photography, and photogrammetric analysis base conditions have been established for the breakwaters. Now that the base (control) conditions have been defined and a method has been developed to closely compare subsequent years of high- resolution aerial photography of the Kahului and Laupahoehoe breakwaters, these sites will be revisited during future years to gather data by which assessments can be made on the long-term response of the structures to their environment. Insight gathered from these efforts will allow definite decisions to be made based on sound data as to whether or not closer surveillance and/or repair of a structure is required to reduce the chance that it will fail catastrophically.

Design and Construction of Mounds for Breakwaters and Coastal Protection by P. Bruun Pdf
This is a comprehensive, detailed coverage of the subject indicated by the title, embracing all aspects from design criteria over design to construction. Basic wave research, wave structure interaction, hydrodynamics, hydraulics, modelling, solid mechanics, soil mechanics, materials execution, maintenance and equipment are all paid equal attention by highly experienced scientists, engineers and constructors in the field. It is a necessary acquisition for practical wave scientists as well as for technicians and engineers.
