Opportunities and Challenges in Digital Healthcare Innovation by Sandhu, Kamaljeet Pdf

Digital health has faced obstacles from poor IT systems implementation to lack of consumer acceptance. Very little is known about the management, development, and design of digital health projects, the level of IT adoption, and the role of digital leadership that is needed to successfully drive health projects. Digital health, if successfully implemented, offers tremendous opportunities in health data analytics for consumers of health services and service providers that include health information portability, personalization of health information by consumers, easy access and usefulness of health information, and better management of electronic data records by health institutions and the government. Research suggests that despite assurances provided to consumers, digital information security and digital health innovation have been a challenge and are only slowly being accepted. Opportunities and Challenges in Digital Healthcare Innovation is an innovative research publication that identifies digital health innovation opportunities and obstacles and proposes frameworks and conceptual models for digital health innovation that empowers consumers of digital health to use the information to make informed decisions and choices. Highlighting topics such as data analytics, health regulations, and telehealth, this book is ideal for IT consultants, medical software developers, data scientists, hospital administrators, medical practitioners, policymakers, academicians, researchers, and students.

Digital Data Improvement Priorities for Continuous Learning in Health and Health Care by Institute of Medicine,Roundtable on Value and Science-Driven Health Care Pdf

Digital health data are the lifeblood of a continuous learning health system. A steady flow of reliable data is necessary to coordinate and monitor patient care, analyze and improve systems of care, conduct research to develop new products and approaches, assess the effectiveness of medical interventions, and advance population health. The totality of available health data is a crucial resource that should be considered an invaluable public asset in the pursuit of better care, improved health, and lower health care costs. The ability to collect, share, and use digital health data is rapidly evolving. Increasing adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) is being driven by the implementation of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, which pays hospitals and individuals incentives if they can demonstrate that they use basic EHRs in 2011. Only a third had access to the basic features necessary to leverage this information for improvement, such as the ability to view laboratory results, maintain problem lists, or manage prescription ordering. In addition to increased data collection, more organizations are sharing digital health data. Data collected to meet federal reporting requirements or for administrative purposes are becoming more accessible. Efforts such as Health.Data.gov provide access to government datasets for the development of insights and software applications with the goal of improving health. Within the private sector, at least one pharmaceutical company is actively exploring release of some of its clinical trial data for research by others. Digital Data Improvement Priorities for Continuous Learning in Health and Health Care: Workshop Summary summarizes discussions at the March 2012 Institute of Medicine (2012) workshop to identify and characterize the current deficiencies in the reliability, availability, and usability of digital health data and consider strategies, priorities, and responsibilities to address such deficiencies.

Emergence and Innovation in Digital Learning by George Veletsianos Pdf

Educational systems worldwide are facing an enormous shift as a result of sociocultural, political, economic, and technological changes. The technologies and practices that have developed over the last decade have been heralded as opportunities to transform both online and traditional education systems. While proponents of these new ideas often postulate that they have the potential to address the educational problems facing both students and institutions and that they could provide an opportunity to rethink the ways that education is organized and enacted, there is little evidence of emerging technologies and practices in use in online education. Because researchers and practitioners interested in these possibilities often reside in various disciplines and academic departments the sharing and dissemination of their work across often rigid boundaries is a formidable task. Contributors to Emergence and Innovation in Digital Learning include individuals who are shaping the future of online learning with their innovative applications and investigations on the impact of issues such as openness, analytics, MOOCs, and social media. Building on work first published in Emerging Technologies in Distance Education, the contributors to this collection harness the dispersed knowledge in online education to provide a one-stop locale for work on emergent approaches in the field. Their conclusions will influence the adoption and success of these approaches to education and will enable researchers and practitioners to conceptualize, critique, and enhance their understanding of the foundations and applications of new technologies.

Improving Health Professional Education and Practice Through Technology by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine,Health and Medicine Division,Board on Global Health,Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education Pdf

A pressing challenge in the modern health care system is the gap between education and clinical practice. Emerging technologies have the potential to bridge this gap by creating the kind of team-based learning environments and clinical approaches that are increasingly necessary in the modern health care system both in the United States and around the world. To explore these technologies and their potential for improving education and practice, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine hosted a workshop in November 2017. Participants explored effective use of technologies as tools for bridging identified gaps within and between health professions education and practice in order to optimize learning, performance and access in high-, middle-, and low-income areas while ensuring the well-being of the formal and informal health workforce. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

Digital Professionalism in Health and Care: Developing the Workforce, Building the Future by P. Scott,J. Mantas,A. Benis Pdf

Digital technology has become integral in the fields of health and care, and a number of recent reports have stressed the importance of equipping health and care staff with the skills and knowledge they need to use such technology effectively. Numerous failures of digital projects in the health and care sectors have demonstrated that simply relocating IT generalists into these specialist fields is not a guaranteed formula for success; the unique complexities of the typically under-resourced legacy infrastructures of health and care create challenges that demand specific education and training. This book presents the proceedings of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) 2022 Special Topic Conference (STC), held in Cardiff, Wales, on 7-8 September 2022. The theme of STC 2022 was Digital Professionalism in Health and Care: Developing the Workforce, Building the Future, which emphasized the vital need for professional education, training and continuing development of the health and care informatics workforce. The 30 full papers and 5 posters in this book cover a broad range of topics and methods in informatics education and training, and include a small selection from the wider sub-domains of biomedical informatics. Providing a valuable overview of current methods and training, the book will be of interest to a wide range of professionals working in healthcare today, especially those involved in equipping the workforce with the skills they will need for the digital future.
