Human Resource Management in Indonesia by Jenny S Lange Pdf

Indonesia, with over 240 million people and rich of natural resources and abundant human resources, is very attractive for investors operating in wide array of industries. Many reports on Human Resource Management (HRM) and the English journals have written about the developing countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia (countries such as Hong Kong, China, and India), but surprisingly, writing on HRM issues in Indonesia has been rare and mainly limited to labor economics and macro-level Human Resources Development. Therefore, this thesis intends to make a contribution to literatures of HRM issues in Indonesia, with the example for German companies which are establishing their subsidiaries in Indonesia. This book examines Human Resource Management Issues in Indonesia from environment context such as political, economical, socio-cultural, technological, environmental and legal perspective (PESTEL Analysis); culture dimension difference between Indonesia and Germany; and the current issues of managing human resources in Indonesia by firms, especially for multinational companies, such as issues of general condition of labors, recruitment and selection process, compensation appraisal, performance management, trade unions and gender. Regarding HRM issues, the study has also shown that foreign companies have many threats, if they establish their subsidiaries in Indonesia. But on the other hand, Indonesia has some strengths and already improved some essential sectors that should be considered as opportunities for foreign companies, such as abundance in labors, rich natural resources, good international relationships, increasing foreign trades and FDI, growing telecommunication development, and starts improving national education and health. As conclusion, the HRM issues for foreign companies establishing a subsidiary in Indonesia are very complex, especially due to environment aspects and culture dimension difference. However, through understanding culture dimension of Indonesian societies, use the opportunities and minimize the risks, managing people in Indonesia is not an impossible mission.

Human Resource Management in Russia and Germany - a Comparison by Natalie Zonis Pdf

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich BWL - Unternehmensführung, Management, Organisation, Note: 1,7, FOM Hochschule für Oekonomie & Management gemeinnützige GmbH, Berlin früher Fachhochschule (International Management), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Russia's unique, very dynamic and complex business environment has not only caused great business prospects but also some difficult, painful upheaval. Therefore many Western entrepreneurs still associate risk rather than opportunity with Russia. But nevertheless, Russia still remains the world's largest country in terms of territory spanning nine time zones with a population of over 140 million people. Such massive changes as the liberalization and rapid growth of the Russian economy, its substantial growth in purchasing power and a relative lack of competition in some sectors make that challenging environment an attractive destination for foreign investment - especially for the German. Since 1997 Germany remains Russia's most important trade partner worldwide. Russia's exports to Germany went up to 30 Billion Euros in 2006 and 28.8 in 2007. But for the German companies Russian market is not less important - in 2007 the exports to Russia have had an impressing value of 28.2 Billion Euros which has increased to 20.6% from the year before. It must be noted however, that Russia's traditional exchange of goods with its Western partners mainly sustains of the export of its raw materials (energy) and the import of manufactured goods. Anyway, the close link and the growing dependency of both countries over the years become more and more evident. And both trade partners are considered as quite compatible as it can shortly be described by: "The German Market can deliver whatever the Russian Market desires". But these business engagement opportunities now appear in an environment significantly different from the German investor's habitual home culture - and culture is a crucial factor of human resource manageme

Corporate Culture Practices of German Corporations in the Host Country Indonesia by Aang Koswara Pdf

This study addresses the corporate cultural practices of German companies in the host country Indonesia from the perspective of Indonesian employees, managers and German expatriates. The focus is on the intercultural challenges that arise in the practice of daily cooperation between Indonesian and German organizational members. Using qualitative methods, the study examines how these challenges are viewed and managed by organizational members, what cultural differences are evident in them and how these differences can be explained, and finally, what strategies can be used to overcome the challenges in everyday business. This ethnographic study is based on interviews with Indonesian and German organizational members, analysis of internal company journals and newsletters, and observations collected by the author as a "professional stranger" at Indonesian sites of German multinational companies. The study concludes that four cultural issues are fundamental factors in the corporate culture of German companies in the host country Indonesia: first, the implementation of a culture of integrity; second, issues of leadership in a hierarchy-driven social environment; third, the daily use of language and the flow of information in a multilingual professional environment; and finally, the creation and maintenance of harmonious, family-like working relationships.

The Oxford Handbook of Contextual Approaches to Human Resource Management by Dr. Emma Parry,Dr. Michael J. Morley,Dr. Chris Brewster Pdf

In recent years scholars and practitioners have increasingly recognized that human resource management (HRM) has paid insufficient attention to the impact of context. While research has been devoted to examining the impact of national context on HRM systems, this literature has been largely separate from that focused on other levels of context affecting organizational choices in HRM strategies, such as the impact of the organizational environment, industry sector, occupation or workforce characteristics. In addition, research has tended to consider elements of context in isolation rather than considering its impact at different levels. The goal of The Oxford Handbook of Contextual Approaches to Human Resource Management is to provide a more holistic approach to developing a contextual understanding of HRM. This Handbook offers a comprehensive understanding of the influence of contextual characteristics on the design and implementation of HRM systems. Rather than focusing on a single level or approach to examining context, the Handbook provides both conceptual and empirical analyses of different elements of context using a range of different lenses and measures. In order to explore the influence of contextual factors at multiple levels, the volume assembles a range of detailed accounts of how context affects the design, implementation and impact of HRM activities.

International Human Resource Management by P. L. Rao Pdf

Managing people in a multinational context is the essence of international human resource management. This requires a broader perspective of what operating internationally involves, and a clear recognition of the range of issues pertaining to all categories of staff operating in different functional, task and managerial capacities. Books that are available on the subject are heavily loaded with cultural aspects rather than HRM processes. From teaching experience, it is noticed that students who are familiar with domestic HRM books find it difficult to comprehend the subject of international HRM. Therefore the topics are arranged in the traditional HRM style with international implications at each stage. A separate chapter is allocated for Expatriation & Repatriation. Similarly Management of People in international context in sixteen countries is discussed in a separate chapter. The text aims to cover in terms of industries, to illustrate the activities and approaches of international organisations. Also, the coverage of different cultures is not intended to include all the different and diverse cultures of the world, simply to enable sufficient understanding of the cultural contexts from which many of the approaches are derived, and to provide background on the appropriateness of different aspects of managing people in international organisations. A detailed treatment to empirical researches on cross cultural issues and cross cultural, comparative management issues arising out of cross border mergers and acquisitions as well as human resource issues emerging out of global acquisitions of Arcelor and Corus by Indian companies and companies of Indian origin are also treated in the text.

Dalhuisen on Transnational Comparative, Commercial, Financial and Trade Law Volume 2 by Jan H Dalhuisen Pdf

This is the fifth edition of the leading work on transnational and comparative commercial and financial law, covering a wide range of complex topics in the modern law of international commerce, finance and trade. As a guide for students and practitioners it has proven to be unrivalled. Since the fourth edition, the work is now divided into three volumes, each of which can be used independently or as part of the complete work. Volume one covers the roots and foundations of private law; the different orientations and structure of civil and common law; the concept, forces, and theoretical basis of the transnationalisation of the law in the professional sphere; the autonomous sources of the new law merchant or modern lex mercatoria, its largely finance-driven impulses; and its relationship to domestic public policy and public order requirements. Volume two deals with transnational contract, movable and intangible property law. Volume three deals with financial products and financial services, with the structure and operation of modern commercial and investment banks, and with financial risk, stability and regulation, including the fall-out from the recent financial crisis and regulatory responses in the US and Europe. All three volumes may be purchased separately or as a single set. From the reviews of previous editions: "...synthesizes and integrates diverse bodies of law into a coherent and accessible account...remarkable in its scope and depth. It stands alone in its field not only due to its comprehensive coverage, but also its original methodology. Although it appears to be a weighty tome, in fact, in light of its scope, it is very concise. While providing a wealth of intensely practical information, its heart is highly conceptual and very ambitious...likely to become a classic text in its field." American Journal of Comparative Law "Dalhuisen's style is relaxed...what he writes convinces without the need for an excess of references to sources...a highly valuable contribution to the legal literature. It adopts a useful, modern approach to teaching the young generation of lawyers how to deal with the increasing internationalisation of law. It is also helpful to the practising lawyer and to legislators." Uniform Law Review/Revue de Droit Uniforme "this is a big book, with big themes and an author with the necessary experience to back them up. ... Full of insights as to the theories that underlie the rules governing contract, property and security, it is an important contribution to the law of international commerce and finance." Law Quarterly Review "...presents a very different case: that of a civilized and cultivated cosmopolitan legal scholar, with a keen sense of international commercial and financial practice, with an in-depth grounding in both comparative legal history and comparative law, combined with the ability to transcend conventional English black-letter law description with critical judgment towards institutional wisdom and intellectual fashions. ...a wide-ranging, historically and comparatively very deep and comprehensive commentary, but which is also very contemporary and forward-looking on many or most of the issues relevant in modern transnational commercial, contract and financial transactions..." International and Comparative Law Quarterly This title is included in Bloomsbury Professional's International Arbitration online service.
