Green Chemical Reactions by Pietro Tundo,Vittorio Esposito Pdf

Green Chemistry is an inventive science based on fundamental research towards the development of new sustainable chemical processes. There is a great need to create a new type of chemistry focused on a new production system, in order to prepare the younger generation to get a greener future. The globalization pushes the chemistry community to adopt ethical issues. In this prospect Green Chemistry can achieve the approval of the society by teaching students to be confident in science and at the same time by convincing people that it is possible to attain technological development with respect and care for the environment we live in. This is why it is of foremost importance that education and fundamental research remain strictly connected, so that democracy and development can grow and progress side by side. This book has been prepared to extend the knowledge of Green Chemistry not disregarding, however, the industrial interest. It is the result of the effort to put together and share the expertise of leading practitioners in the field of Green Chemistry. The Interuniversity Consortium ‘Chemistry for the Environment’ is a non-profit organisation established in 1993 in Italy. At present it includes 31 member universities and 80 research units.

Moderne Methoden der Pflanzenanalyse / Modern Methods of Plant Analysis by K. Paech,M. V. Tracey Pdf

If, following the solvent extraction of a hydrocarbon from a plant, it is not known whether it is one or the other, a method of distinguishing the two is described by HENDRICKS, WILDMAN and JONES (1946). The technique involves the infra-red absorption spectra of the two isomers. At about 12 mp. the relative absorption coefficient of rubber is 42% greater than for gutta. ScHLESINGER and LEPER (1951) describe two procedures for separation of the rubber and gutta hydrocarbons from large quantities of crude chicle. In one, the chicle is extracted with benzene which dissolves both isomers. An excess absolute ethyl acetate is added and the mixture stored at 5° C overnight. The gutta precipitates out and the rubber remains in solution. The other method is as follows: (1) Ten grams of chicle are extracted with acetone for 24 hours in a Soxhlet extraction apparatus. (2) The insoluble material in the thimble is allowed to .. it dry, then immersed in 150 ml. of cold Skellysolve B in a refrigerator at 10° C and· allowed to stand for 48 hours with occasional agitation. (3) The thimble is then removed from the solvent and the enclosed residue washed several times with fresh, cold Skellysolve B. (4) An excess of acetone and a few drops of a concentrated aqueous solution of sodium iodide are added to the combined Skellysolve B extract and washings and allowed to stand overnight in a refrigerator.

Developments in High Temperature Corrosion and Protection of Materials by W Gao Pdf

High temperature corrosion is a phenomenon that occurs in components that operate at very high temperatures, such as gas turbines, jet engines and industrial plants. Engineers are constantly striving to understand and prevent this type of corrosion. This book examines the latest developments in the understanding of high temperature corrosion processes and protective oxide scales and coatings. Part one looks at high temperature corrosion. Chapters cover diffusion and solid state reactions, external and internal oxidation of alloys, metal dusting corrosion, tribological degradation, hot corrosion, and oxide scales on hot-rolled steel strips. Modern techniques for analysing high temperature oxidation and corrosion are also discussed. Part two discusses methods of protection using ceramics, composites, protective oxide scales and coatings. Chapters focus on layered ternary ceramics, alumina scales, Ti-Al intermetallic compounds, metal matrix composites, chemical vapour deposited silicon carbide, nanocrystalline coatings and thermal barrier coatings. Part three provides case studies illustrating some of the challenges of high temperature corrosion to industry and how they can be overcome. Case studies include the petrochemical industry, modern incinerators and oxidation processing of electronic materials. This book is a valuable reference tool for engineers who develop heat resistant materials, mechanical engineers who design and maintain high temperature equipment and plant, and research scientists and students who study high temperature corrosion and protection of materials. Oxidation of Organic Compounds by Dioxiranes by Waldemar Adam,Cong-Gui Zhao,Chantu R. Saha-Moller,Kavitha Jakka Pdf

A Comprehensive Monograph on Dioxirane Oxidations The oxidation of organic compounds is one of the most important methods for the introduction and manipulation of functional groups. Among the most modern of these transformations is the use of the fascinating family of oxidants known as dioxiranes. A dioxirane can, by transferring one of its oxygen atoms to organic substrates, effect a remarkable array of oxidative processes such as epoxidation, C-H insertion, and heteroatom (N, S, P, I) oxidation. In addition to their versatility, dioxiranes can be generated catalytically under mild conditions and produce no toxic waste stream as part of the oxidation process. Moreover, some of the most exciting recent developments involve the enantioselective introduction of oxygen atoms via chiral dioxiranes. This book represents the first single volume dedicated to the comprehensive coverage of the myriad of oxidations of organic compounds performed by dioxiranes. The contents of this book are extracted from comprehensive reviews of the topics contained in the Organic Reactions series and cover the oxidation of alkenes and the oxidation of all other organic substrates. In addition, updated lists of references for each of the chapters are provided, bringing the literature coverage up to June 2008. The authors of these chapters are among the pioneers of dioxirane chemistry and draw on extensive firsthand knowledge of the subject. As with all Organic Reactions content, the presentation emphasizes the preparative aspects of the reactions and pays particular attention throughout to substrate scope, limitations, structural and electronic influences, and stereochemical aspects. For the student or experienced practitioner, both general guidelines for carrying out the reactions as well as detailed experimental procedures are provided. Most importantly, all known examples of dioxirane oxidations have been compiled in easy-to-scan tables covering over 500 pages. Oxidation of Organic Compounds by Dioxiranes is an indispensable working resource for organic and medicinal chemists as well as anyone wishing to own the definitive treatise on this fascinating and useful class of oxidants.

Catalytic Oxidation Reagents by Philip L. Fuchs Pdf

The Handbook is part of the Handbook of Reagents for Organic Chemistry series, aiming at collecting articles on a particular theme that individual researchers in academia or industry can use on a daily basis. The Handbook starts with a section discussing the most important aspects of heteroarene functionalization. The introduction is followed by the alphabetical listing of the most relevant reagents drawn from the EROS database. The Editor, André Charette from the University of Montreal, has selected 120 reagent descriptions, many of them updated with heteroarene-specific reactions for this Handbook. Following the standard format for EROS, each article contains an overview of the synthesis and physical properties of the reagents or catalyst, conditions for its storage, and purification methods. Given the importance of heteroarenes in biology and especially in medicinal chemistry, a Handbook that focuses exclusively on heteroarene functionalization has been long overdue. This Handbook will have a broad appeal to many individuals engaged in the area of medicinal chemistry, fine chemical synthesis and industrial-scale chemistry. Key features: Builds on the success of the previously published Handbooks of Reagents for Organic Synthesis Compares the numerous new C-H functionalization reactions that have been developed in the past decade Heteroarene functionalization is widely used in the development of pharmaceuticals and other bioactive compounds Contains listings of secondary reagents for which more information is available in the online edition
