Diabetes is a metabolic disorder of chronic hyperglycemia that causes numerous complications. The International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organization report that approximately 537 million people worldwide have diabetes in 2021, which may increase to 700 million by 2045. Diabetes and its complications significantly lower the quality of life of patients and cause more than 4 million deaths yearly. Diabetes and its complications also increase premature mortality, increasing society's economic burden. Numerous studies reveal that the chronic multisystem injury and dysfunction can be caused by diabetes, including cardiac and cerebral vascular lesions, nephropathy, retinopathy and neuropathy. In addition, diabetes usually co-occurs with other diseases that may have certain risk factors in common. For example, patients with diabetes are more likely to have hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or asthma. However, there is still a lack of knowledge on the relationship between diabetes and other potential comorbidities such as hepatitis infection, hearing impairment and periodontal disease. Furthermore, common risk factors contributing to the pathogenesis of diabetes and comorbidities are far from fully understood. Several comorbidities (e.g., cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases) raise the extra chances of death in patients with diabetes, but the association between diabetes and mortality of other diseases, such as endometrial or kidney cancer, is inconsistent. Further research is still needed to reveal the excess mortality associated with diabetic comorbidities.

Pituitary disorders may be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and metabolic complications and, in consequence, increased mortality. Excessive secretion of pituitary hormones provokes functional and systemic abnormalities which can be manifested by cardiovascular complications such as eg. arterial hypertension, heart failure, arrhythmia, as through metabolic disturbances, including obesity and diabetes. Subclinical effects of pituitary diseases, such as cardiac and vascular dysfunction, also modifies prognosis but due to its asymptomatic course are frequently diagnosed with significant time delay. Even successful surgery and pharmacological treatment of pituitary disorders do not guarantee that metabolic and cardiovascular comorbidities can be completely resolved after primary disease remission. This Research Topic aims to provide insights into the cross-talk between pituitary and cardiometabolic disorders in respect to effective diagnosis and targeted therapy. We also especially welcome studies that advance our knowledge on molecular mechanisms and pathogenic pathways explaining these phenomena. Another issue that still needs clarification is an effective model of interdisciplinary care focused on holistic approach to patients with pituitary disorders. We would like to turn on a light of attention towards the importance of psychological, dietary, and rehabilitation care. We aim to collect the up-to-date studies presenting novel results and future perspectives in this area. It could divert the blood flow from the aneurysm neck, and promote aneurysm occlusion without inserting coils into the aneurysms. In addition, the FDs had the advantage of simplifying the procedure and relieving the mass effect.
