Mafic-ultramafic Intrusions in Beishan and Eastern Tianshan at Southern CAOB: Petrogenesis, Mineralization and Tectonic Implication by Ben-Xun Su Pdf

The widespread mafic-ultramafic complexes in the Earth are well-known as their hosting Ni-Cu-PGE ore deposits, and their petrogenesis and mineralization have become hot issues in the geological studies. This thesis comprehensively investigated the petrology, mineralogy, geochemistry and geochronology of several mafic-ultramafic complexes in the Beishan Terrane, southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt aimed at systematically determining the mineralization and petrogenetic processes responsible for the formation of the complexes and placing constraints on the tectonic evolution of the Eastern Tianshan and Beishan, and the Early Permian mantle plume. The thesis identified mineralizing indicators of Ni-Cu sulfide deposits and defined the roles of partial melting, fractional crystallization, crustal assimilation and magma injection. The systematical isotopic compositions revealed the mantle source of the mafic-ultramafic complexes had undergone the subduction-related modifications both from the South Tianshan Ocean and subsequently the Junggar Ocean, and that the complexes were emplaced in the period of 269-285 Ma coeval with the 280 Ma mantle plume event in the Tarim Craton. The results of this thesis provide new insights about the tectonic setting, magma evolution, ore genesis, and exploration implications of the mafic-ultramafic complexes in Central Asian Orogenic Belt. Tectonics of Asia (Northern, Central and Eastern Asia) by Oleg V. Petrov,Shuwen Dong Pdf

The book provides the results of tectonic, geological and geophysical studies of Northern, Central and Eastern Asia obtained over the last 20 years, and a Tectonic map for this area overview as well as essays on its geodynamic evolution. These new results were obtained by an international team of specialists within the project “Atlas of geological maps of Central Asia and adjacent areas,” scale 1: 2,500,000, initiated in 2003 by geological surveys of Russia, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and South Korea under the auspices of the CGMW. The most of the book contains the descriptions of the tectonic structure of major geological regions of Asia, such as the Ural, Sayan-Baikal and Tien Shan orogenic systems. The tectonic structure of the Pamirs, Turan Plate, Mongolia, Southern China, Korea and other regions is also discussed. The book contains maps of gravity and magnetic anomalies, sketch maps of deep structures of the area, and the geotransect crossing the most important geological structures of Asia. The final chapter of the book describes the tectonic evolution of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt from the Neoproterozoic to the Mesozoic.

Potassic Igneous Rocks and Associated Gold-Copper Mineralization by Daniel Müller,David I. Groves Pdf

This book reviews the geochemical and petrological characteristics of potassic igneous rock complexes, and investigates the various tectonic settings in which these rocks occur. The authors provide an overview and classification of these rocks and elucidate the geochemical differences between barren and mineralized potassic igneous complexes. High-K rocks are genetically associated with a number of epithermal gold and porphyry copper-gold deposits. In recent years, there has also been growing recognition of an association of such rocks with iron-oxide copper-gold (IOCG) deposits, intrusion-related gold deposits (IRGDs) and Carlin-type gold deposits. This fifth updated and expanded edition incorporates new data and references from world-class copper and gold deposits worldwide. It also includes the latest publications on the petrogenesis of high-K magmatism and related mineral deposits. Numerous new representative ore photographs of the mineral deposits described are also included in the new edition. As such, the book offers a valuable guide not only for academic petrologists working on alkaline rocks, but also for exploration geologists prospecting for epithermal gold and/or porphyry copper-gold deposits in modern and ancient terrains.

Orogenic-Type Polymetallic Mineralization Associated with Multistage Orogenesis in Northern North China Plate by Wenbo Li,Richen Zhong,Yanjing Chen,Qiaohui Pi Pdf

This book focuses on the geological characteristics and genesis of several base metal deposits in the northern margin of the North China Plate, namely the Bainaimiao Cu-Au-Mo, the Huogeqi Cu-Pb-Zn, the Dongshengmiao Zn-Pb-Cu and the Jiashengpan Zn-Pb deposits. These deposits have geological and geochemical affinities with orogenic-type deposits, such as shear zone-controlled mineralization and carbon-rich low-salinitiy ore-forming fluids, and are characterized by multistage ore-forming histories. Remobilization of the pre-enriched (stratabound or porphyry-type) base metals took place as responses to orogenesis and metamorphism, leading to metal redistribution and the formation of orogenic-type orebodies. The formation of orogenic-type base metal deposits is enigmatic, and the case studies presented in this book provide insights into understanding the genesis of this type of deposits. In particular, pre-enrichment of base metals seems to be important, in terms of preconditioning for later shear zone-controlled mineralization, since base metals are believed to have limited solubilities in the low-salinity ore-fluids.

The Evolving Continents by Timothy M. Kusky,Mingguo Zhai,Wenjiao Xiao Pdf

This volume honours the career of Brian F. Windley, who has been hugely influential in helping to achieve our current understanding of the evolution of the continental crust, and who has inspired many students and scientists to pursue studies on the evolution of the continents. Brian has studied processes of continental formation and evolution on most continents and of all ages, and has educated and inspired two generations of geologists to undertake careers in studies of continental evolution. The volume is organized into six sections, including: oceanic and island arc systems and continental growth; tectonics of accretionary orogens and continental growth; growth and stabilization of continental crust; collisions and intraplate processes; Precambrian tectonics and the birth of continents; and active tectonics and geomorphology of continental collision and growth zones.

Indium by Ulrich Schwarz-Schampera,Peter M. Herzig Pdf

The extraordinary growth of the computer and semiconductor industries and the increasing consumption of indium in these technologies in recent years have placed major constraints on current and future reserves of this metal. In the past, geoscientists have noticed the occurrence of indium in a large variety of ore de posits and detailed geochemical and mineralogical work is available for a few ex amples. However, despite the current technological interest, there is no compre hensive textbook that deals with all aspects of indium mineralization and economics. The present study attempts to develop a general metallogenic concept for indium in identifying the essential enrichment processes and their economic significance. The study 'Indium Geology, Mineralogy, and Economics' was commissioned and funded by the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Re sources (BGR Hannover) and is a contribution to the research program 'BGR 2000 - Raw Materials with Short Lifetime Reserves'. This program focuses on raw materials with known reserves confined to the next 20-25 years at static de mand. The future availability of reserves is usually estimated by dividing the known reserves by the current annual consumption. In fact, lifetimes of reserves are inappropriate measures because they depend on many parameters and there fore represent a "snapshot" of a dynamic system. In order to provide a sustainable use of raw materials with short lifetime reserves, a significantly higher amount of innovation is needed compared to raw materials with long lifetime reserves.

Paleozoic and Mesozoic tectonic evolution of central and eastern Asia by Gregory Arlen Davis,Marc S Pdf

Hendrix (geology, U. of Montana) and Davis (earth sciences, U. of Southern California) present 19 articles detailing ground-based work on the history of assembly and intracontinental deformation of central and eastern Asia. Chapters look at the structural, thermochronologic, and sedimentary records of the history of Paleozoic assembly in Mongolia and central and western China. Further information is presented on Mesozoic deformation in orogenic belts of central and eastern Asia. Asia's sedimentary basins are examined and the intracontinental deformation they record is documented. Many of these contributions, particularly the papers examining Mongolian geology, are the first ground-based articles written in English. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
