The aims and mission of the Theosophical Society fulfilled by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

Progress review of the aims and mission of the Theosophical Society, September 1889, on the occasion of the fifth volume of “Lucifer.” 1. To establish a nucleus of universal brotherhood of man. The Indian National Congress was planned by our Anglo-Indian and Hindu members after the model and on the lines of the Theosophical Society, and has from the first been directed by our own colleagues, men among the most influential in the Indian Empire. From Ceylon the religion of Gautama streamed out to Cambodia, Siam, and Burma; and from this holy land the message of Brotherhood reached Japan. We depicted the chromatic vibrations of the aura of Gautama in the Buddhist Flag — sapphire blue, golden yellow, crimson, white, and scarlet. 2. To promulgate the study oriental philosophy and literature. Our magnificent achievements in India. The revival of Buddhism in Ceylon. Neither race, nor creed, nor colour, nor social class, nor old antipathies are irremovable obstacles to the grand ideals of altruism and brotherhood. 3. To investigate the occult laws and principles in nature and man. We work on the basis that the Higher Self in every man is colourless, cosmopolitan, unsectarian, sexless, and pre-eminently altruistic. The early fruits of the Theosophical Tree, August 1890, a year later. The Theosophical Society arose to defend true science and true religion against a sciolism that was becoming more and more arrogant, and to stem the headlong descent to materialism. The popularity of theosophical and mystical literature indicates the despair and hope of the churches — despair that science will ever read the puzzle of life; hope that the solution may be found in the secret doctrine. The modern Theosophical Movement is a necessity of the age. It has spread under its own inherent impulsion, and owes nothing to adventitious methods. Its strongest allies are the yearnings for light upon the problem of life, and for a nobler conception of the origin, destiny, and potentialities of the human being. Alone the organs of disembodied “angels” poured as unsuccessfully as ever their vials of wrath, mockery, and brutal slander, upon us. However, the utmost malignity and basest treachery have not been able either to controvert our ideas, belittle our objects, disprove the reasonableness of our methods, or fasten upon us a selfish or dishonest motive. The Adyar Library, founded by the loving labour of Colonel Olcott, is the crown and glory of the Theosophical Society. Progress review of the three objects of the Theosophical Society. The clear note of universal brotherhood was struck and the evangel of religious tolerance declared in India, where previously there had been only sectarian hatred and selfish class egotism. And by bringing the people of Ceylon, Burma, Siam, and Japan, into fraternal relations with the Hindus, and creating channels for international intercourse upon religious and educational subjects. In the East End of London we have founded the first Working-Women’s Club, wholly free from theological creeds and conditions. We have revived the study of oriental literature across the globe, thus opening up the vista of a new spiritual day for the world, the harbinger of a new marriage between science and religion, and of peace between the people of the most incongruous sects. We have placed before the thinking public a logical, coherent, and philosophical scheme of man’s origin, destiny, and evolution — a scheme pre-eminent above all for its rigorous adherence to justice. Theosophy, the universal solvent, is fulfilling its mission. For many a long year humanity, the “great orphan,” has been crying aloud in the darkness for guidance and light — but no more!

The Esoteric Basis of Christianity, or Theosophy and Christian Doctrine by William Kingsland Pdf

Excerpt from The Esoteric Basis of Christianity, or Theosophy and Christian Doctrine: A Paper Read Before the Blavatsky Lodge of the Theosophical Society The particular point however to which I wish to direct your attention, and which is a fundamental one before we can establish any relation between Theosophy and Christian Doctrine, is this: that in the nature of things, in the nature of history, of human progress and development, in the nature of man's capacity for growth, for the expansion of his limited and relative mind and consciousness, in the nature of the universe itself, there is and must be an inner and an outer, an esoteric and an exoteric; an outward form, and an inner meaning; an outward expression, temporary, finite, mutable, an inner principle, eternal, unvarying. If there be any reality whatever, underlying what we term phenomena, the objective changeable world of sense and form, that reality must constitute an inner mystery, which is a mystery simply on account of our inability to sense and cognise it, owing to our limited faculties. And if there be any reality in that growth, development, or evolution, which is the most prominent factor in our experience, that reality consists in our coming into more and more intimate conscious relation to this inner principle which underlies phenomena; consists in an apprehension of the noumena; in the casting-off of the temporary illusion of form, of that bondage of the senses which causes attachment to form, attachment to the impermanent and temporary, whereby the permanent and eternal is lost sight of; consists, in short, of the development of that faculty which cognises unity in diversity; or in a word consists of - spirituality. In theosophical language this faculty resides in the fifth principle, or Manas, in the immortal spiritual Ego. (See diagram, page 23.) But setting aside specific theosophical doctrines, let us see what relation this principle of an inner spiritual reality and an outer expression in form, and of a corresponding evolution or expansion of human consciousness from particulars to universals, bears to the subject before us. The Key to Theosophy by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

Written in the form of question and answer, The Key to Theosophy is an excellent introduction for the inquirer. After the publication of Isis Unveiled and The Secret Doctrine, the author was deluged with questions about the human constitution, spiritual and psychological; the mysteries of periodic rebirths; and the difference between fate, destiny, free will, and karma. These and many other questions on the basic theosophical concepts are answered simply and directly. The work is enhanced by a 60-page glossary of philosophical terms drawn from Sanskrit, Hebrew, and classical literature.

The Theosophical Writings of Annie Besant by Annie Besant Pdf

Annie Besant was a prominent British socialist, Theosophist, women's rights activist, writer and orator and supporter of Irish and Indian self-rule. In 1890 Besant met Helena Blavatsky and over the next few years her interest in Theosophy grew while her interest in secular matters waned. She became a member of the Society and a highly successful lecturer in Theosophy. As part of her Theosophy-related work, she travelled to India where in 1898 she helped establish the Central Hindu College, and in 1902 she established the first overseas Lodge of the International Order of Co-Freemasonry, Le Droit Humain in England. Over the next few years she established lodges in many parts of the British Empire. In 1907 she became President of the Theosophical Society. A Textbook Of Theosophy (Annotated Edition) by C. W. Leadbeater Pdf

Theosophy is not only a basis of religion; it is also a philosophy of life. As such, its main teachings are reincarnation and the law of Karma. Karma is the outcome of the collective life, a law of ethical causation. In the past incarnation the ego had acquired certain faculties, set in motion certain causes. The effect of these causes and of causes set in motion in previous incarnations and not yet exhausted are its Karma and determine the conditions into which the ego is reborn. Thus inequalities of natural gifts, e.g. genius, of temperament and of character are explained. The law of progress is the law of involution and evolution, the returning of the Divine Spark into a unity with Spirit through various reincarnations, which are viewed as a process of purification. Sin, poverty, and misery are the fruits of ignorance, and are gradually removed as the spirit in us becomes freed from earthly dross. There is no heaven nor Hell. Death is the passage from this state of life to another. There is an evolution behind and before, with absolute certainty of final attainment for every human soul, i.e. to be one with the Absolute. As man advances in this process his spirit becomes stronger, and can develop latent powers, not shown in ordinary mortals. This textbook is your portal to a new sight of life and religion.

The Esoteric Basis of Christianity, Or Theosophy and Christian Doctrine by William Kingsland Pdf

Excerpt from The Esoteric Basis of Christianity, or Theosophy and Christian Doctrine: A Paper Read Before the Blavatsky Lodge of the Theosophical Society It is well known that the claim which has been made by the Church, from its earliest traditions down to ourpresent day, on behalf of Christian doctrine, has been that of a special divine revelation by a personal God. Beginning with the first chapter of Genesis, and ending with the last verse of Revelation, we are asked to believe that the collection of ancient writings known as the Bible has been specially prepared and inspired by this personal God, as a record of his dealings with, and his will towards, the creatures he originally created. This I believe may be accepted as the fundamental basis of Christian doctrine, the centre round which all the teachings of the Church, whether Protestant or Catholic, has revolved, and from which they cannot get away without breaking up and destroying all that has ever been known historically as Christianity. I say specifically that this is the claim made by the Church, because it is a fact commonly overlooked, and one indeed of which the majority of professing Christians are ignorant, that what is known as Christianity, in its doctrinal form, in its traditions, and in the selection and compilation Of the subject matter of the Bible, is purely ecclesiastical. The Bible in its present form, the creeds, and the rites and ceremonies which go to make up the sum total Of what is known historically as Christianity, were com piled by the early Church authorities from miscellaneous sources. This, however, is a matter of literary and historical data into which I cannot enter now; buti wish it to be understood that in speaking of Christianity and Christian doctrine I am dealing at present with its ecclesiastical and historical forms, and not with the personality or teachings of its supposed founder. We have then this fundamental idea of Christianity as a revelation of the personal relationship between a creative God, and the creatures he created; and upon this basis is built up the doctrinal superstructure with which we are all familiar in its many variations and modifications. The Secret Gateway by Edward Abdill Pdf

While several books have been written on modern Theosophy — the ancient wisdom tradition that can be found in every great culture from earliest times to the present — none currently exist today in the form of Edward Abdill’s new title. Presenting his own interpretation of the basic Theosophical concepts established in the late nineteenth century by the brilliant mystic, H. P. Blavatsky, Abdill gives us perhaps the first simplified, straightforward written version of the esoteric system that for centuries has often been misunderstood. Through this concise, easy-to-read introduction to Theosophy, people of all faiths and religions can finally start to bridge the gap that is the realm between science and spirituality. This book is the perfect guiding tool for all those on the quest to self-discovery and self-transformation, filling the long-awaited need of insight into the theories and practices that are the backbone of ancient wisdom that most foundational literature on modern Theosophy leaves to be desired.

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky by Katherine Tingley Pdf

From the introductory. HELENA PETROVNA BLAVATSKY, the Foundress of the present Theosophical Movement, is called the 'lion-hearted' by her followers, and I can conceive of no better name for her, because in every act of her life there was a superb courage - a courage of a quality which we rarely hear of except when, under peculiar circumstances, a man is aroused to his highest motive and most superb effort by some stirring emergency. I mean spiritual courage, of a quality which marks one who has realized that he is essentially divine, which endows him with a measure of knowledge that can come to him only through his inner nature, which at that moment makes him conscious that he is something more than he seems, part of the universal scheme of life, and in harmony with the wonderful forces of nature. In spite of his having made mistakes, in spite of having faltered, of having done injustice to others, once he realizes that he, and every man, inherits the power to be his own savior and can make his life an expression of divine law, - that very fact will bring to him a superb courage such as Madame Blavatsky possessed in so marked a degree and which she carried through her whole life. *As Foundress of the original Theosophical Society she brought again to the world the teachings of Theosophy, the principles of which are as old as the ages, but which, although so old - having been lost sight of for so many years- appeared as new, as something very optimistic, something very inspiring, for all the world's children to receive. *The great purpose of the Theosophical Society, as originated by Madame Blavatsky, is to teach Brotherhood. She brought from the storehouse of the past the great teachings of the Wisdom-Religion, Theosophy, and they have been preserved by those members who stood faithfully by her and her successors, and who have sustained the original Theosophical Society, which is now called the Universal Brotherhood and Theosophical Society. *She knew her mission for Humanity. Nothing could throw her aside, no one could discourage her - the more she was persecuted, the more she worked, and the same is true of William Q. Judge, her successor - with the result that this Society is today established on a basis of honor and dignity and integrity that is unassailable, with its World-Center and International Headquarters at Point Loma, California. *At the time she came to the Western World a great wave of materialism was sweeping over this country and over all Europe. It was a marked time. The minds of men were turning away from the possibility of the higher spiritual thought; they had become weary of creeds and dogmas; they had found so much professed in the name of religion and so little practised in daily life that in their despair they had fallen back upon the power of mere reason as an anchorage, ignoring and in many instances attacking and seeking to tear down and to deny the divine principles of life and nature.
