The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: October 10, 1907 (Classic Reprint) by Charles W. Penrose Pdf

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: October 10, 1907 Man has faith in man, but how often we are afraid to trust our Father in Heaven. He has placed us here, and His providence is over all. Everything is done by Him in order. There are certain laws which govern the universe, and certain laws that govern our lives, and if we have faith enough to bring ourselves into line with those laws, we are correspondingly happy. If we rebel, we pro duce friction, which causes pain. If we have an intelligent faith in God, and are keeping His laws as far as we understand them, everything that happens to us must be the best thing that could happen at that particular time, and if we have absolute faith in our Father we shall acknowledge this, although in our ignorance we may not be able to see it just then. It is this absolute faith that is needed to take the sting out of life and make it happy. We must not depend upon circumstances for our happiness, but we must learn to trust our Father implicitly. Faith has done mighty things. By it we can obtain all things. Paul said, I can do all things through Christ which strengthen eth me. That does away with all I can'ts. By faith the humble fishermen of Galilee were able to teach the world. By faith the Elders of Israel can do the same. Though they may not be highly educated, they can confute the learned men of the day. In the eleventh chapter of Hebrews we see what faith can do. Take, for instance, the Prophet Joseph Smith, whose faith brought God the Eternal Father and His Son Jesus Christ from heaven to give instructions to a mere boy. When I was quite a girl I began to may for a certain thing. I prayed twice daily for twelve years, and then God abundantly answered my prayers in a way far beyond what I had hoped or even thought of. God lives, and by faith, if we keep His laws, we can claim from Him what we ask. Jesus said, If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done. Paul said to the former-day saints, Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God. We need have no fear, we need not worry over things, for all things work together for good to them that love God. The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71 by Charles W. Penrose Pdf

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: February 11, 1909 The Baptist had baptized a great many men before the Savior came to him, but on none of them had the promise of the Father been fulfilled. But when Jesus was baptized and had come out of the water, 10 the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: and lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. That hour John knew the Redeemer and he bore record that He was the Son of God. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 101 by Hugh B. Brown Pdf

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 101: August 17, 1939 The Lord has favoured us. He not only gives us the evidence contained in the Bible but in addition the testimony that we find recorded in the Book of Mormon, III Nephi, Chapter 11. After the Saviour had been crucified and resurrected and ascended into heaven, a great multitude of people were assembled around the temple in the land Bountiful on the western hemisphere, marvelling at the changes that had been wrought. They heard an unusual voice repeated three times. It was not a loud Voice, neither was it a harsh voice, and yet it pierced them to their very centres'. Looking toward the sound they saw a man descending out of heaven. He was clothed in a white robe, and He came down and stood in the midst of them and declared to them, Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. What more direct evidence of resurrection from the dead could have been had than that He, in His resurrected body, came among them and taught them the same Gospel that He taught in Jerusalem? And He now fulfilled the promise He had made in Jerusalem when He said, Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. He came in His resurrected body to bring to them. The information He had predicted should be given to them. The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 64 by Francis M. Lyman Pdf

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 64: September 11, 1902 From the Apostles we turn to the fathers, and later teachers in the church and secure their evidence. The earlier of these quote from the gospels and the epistles without mentioning from whom they quote, and sometimes with little verbal accuracy. Their use _of the books proves, however, that they regarded them as Scripture for the guidance of the church. This evidence is most valuable in attesting the antiquity of our New Testament, since its books must have existed. Long before to have been so venerated by these worthy writers. Here are a few examples of their quotations. Clement of Rome, the earliest of writers after the Apostles, says, Remem ber the words Of our Lord Jesus Christ; for He said, 'woe to that man; it were better for him that he had not been born than that he should offend one of my elect. It were better for him that a millstone should be tied about his neck and that he should be drowned in the sea than that he should ofi'end one of my little Matthew, Mark and Luke each use words similar to these. It is from one of them he no doubt quotes (see Matt. Xviii: 6 Mark ix: 42; Luke xvii: 1 In the Epistle of Barnabas, written about 97 a.d., is the following: Let us take heed lest, as it is written, we be found many called, but few chosen. This is clearly a quotation from the written gospel Of St. Matthew (matt. Xx: Papias, who lived during the first half of the second century mentions the gospels Of Matthew and Mark, and the epistles of Peter and John (eusebius h.e. III. One of the very best of early witnesses to the New Testament is Justin Martyr, who wrote an apology addressed to the Roman Emperor Antonius about 150 a.d. He quotes copiously from the gospels, and though he does not name his authors, says the memoirs he uses are called gospels, and were composed by Apostles and those who followed them. These memoirs, said he, were read along with the Prophets the Old Testament) at the meetings of the Christians each Sunday.
